I love the juxtaposition of photo and title in this Cincinnati Enquirer piece. There a picture of total devastation in Moscow, Ohio from a tornado that touched down there yesterday, and that is paired with a Kasich turns down federal disaster aid headline. It couldn’t make it clearer that Ohio’s governor is a simple-minded demagogue who puts his ideology over any concern for his citizens.
Ohio Gov. John Kasich said thanks but no thanks to immediate federal disaster relief Saturday, even as governors in Indiana and Kentucky welcomed the help.
Kasich did not rule out asking for assistance later, but his decision means tornado-ravaged towns in Ohio will not get federal aid now and are not eligible at this time for potentially millions of dollars in payments and loans.
The governor said Ohio can respond to the crisis without federal help and he would not ask federal authorities to declare the region a disaster area.
“I believe that we can handle this,” Kasich said while visiting a shelter for storm victims at New Richmond High School. “We’ll have down here all the assets of the state.”

Kasich goes all in, holding a pair of threes.
(shrug) Deserve what you vote for.
Should rub the OH electorate’s noses in their jackass irresponsible voting by giving that money to other states. Taglined with “From the responsible voters of Ohio”.
I’ve never been so glad for republican voters, as when FL turned down high speed rail federal $. My rational-electorate state of Washington got some of the dough. THANKS AGAIN, FLORIDA!!!!!
But hey – at least “progressives” “taught Obama a lesson” in 2010!!! I’m sure Obama is very, very wounded by this development.
Don’t be too sure we’re rational. McKenna’s still up in the polls for governor in 2012. The difference between him and Scott or Kasich isn’t a whole lot.
Aye it’ll be tough. The not-Seattle hicks are always a thorn in our side. And lately the sackofshit eastsiders have been going republican.
So yah, it’ll be tough. Eminently doable though. 🙂
Yep. And Inslee, if he gets in, is a serious upgrade over Gregoire or Locke.
I left a couple comments about that on the story.
seems as if the guv has disappointed his electorate in more ways than one…Residents in Uniopolis wanted a balanced budget, and voted in Republican Gov. John Kasich to get the job done. But now the village is facing disincorporation because it can’t stay afloat.
to rephrase sherifffruitfly above: be careful what you
votewish for, you just might get it.cue small violins………
I, for one, am DAMN GLAD to see people reap what they electorally sow. I call it a learning opportunity.
Possibly they’ll learn that there are MANY differences between republicans and Democrats. And maybe they’ll learn that a black guy in the White House really isn’t the most important thing in the world.
(shrug) Or maybe they won’t.
it is very hard for me to feel sorry for Ohio, or to even give a shit about their problems.
They elected a shitball and this is what they get. Boo fucking hoo.
They can live in cardboard boxes for all i care. Next time don’t vote for an asshole. And believe me, i know from assholes: Tom Corbett is my governor, and i think PA deserves everything they get for letting him get elected.
It looks like the lakeside houses were spared which, for the rich assholes, is probably just more validation that God loves them and that they’re on the right track.
So Ohio suddenly has so much money it can take care of the damage without federal money? Guess there was no need to bust unions, decimate the safety net, and impoverish state services to balance the budget after all. But I suppose that’s too complicated for Ohio’s teabag-blinded hordes to piece together.
Kasich is the last “financial genius” that the Repukeliscum party had before Ryan, today’s Catfood Commander of the Dead Grannie Corps. What a total jackass this guy is. However, between him and Snyder (MI) and Walker (WI) and the fucking turd in PA, Obama’s path through the midwest gets easier. These turds remind people every day that votes for Repukeliscum have consequences, and if you vote Repukeliscum to “save the bayyyyyyybeeeeeeesssss”, you can do that AND lose your job too!!
this is who he is.
accept it and proceed accordingly
I posted this elsewhere on the web, but it fits here since Kasich and Ron Paul are essentially two sides of the same coin.
Ron Paul: No Aid for Tornado Victims
I take this shit personally, as a Katrina survivor. I’m not kidding, when I tell you that my current relative ease and stress free lifestyle in owed in large part to FEMA and the help given to me and my family by the Fed government. I lost my car and my apartment thanks to Katrina and we had renters insurance. It’s thanks to FEMA that I was able to rent my first apartment here in DFW while I looked for a job and it’s the reason I was able to buy a car so that I could broaden my ability of getting around DFW and therefore being able to broaden my job hunt. That car BTW, I have today, I finished paying for it last month and now I own it. It’s the first actually bit of property I own and don’t rent.
“FU” Ron Paul and I don’t mean “forget u”
This playing politics with the lives of your constituents should be punished by said constituents, but I still expect idiot GOP voters to vote for Romney over Obama who at least seems to want to help the putzs
I don’t think that’s too much of a trade-off for legal dope and an end to foreign wars, do you?
