It appears that Rep. Allen West (R-FL) finally remembered that he is a black man living in the South. Good for him. He thinks the Sanford, Florida police chief should be relieved of his duties (which he has been) and that their investigation was an outrage. Good for him. Of course, if it is an outrage, it’s not clear why he says this:
“I am not heading to Sanford to shout and scream, because we need responsible entities and agencies to handle this situation from this point without media bias or undue political influences. This is an outrage.”
I guess the people descending on Sanford to protest are just “race hustlers” who are politicizing this young man’s murder. Except, last I checked, the authorities haven’t done anything to address the outrage. They’ve backpedaled and reshuffled, but they have not arrested the murderer.
Trayvon Martin is dead. His killer is still free. Until that changes, Allen West can’t be on the right side of the issue just by saying it’s an outrage. He has no right to criticize the people who are shouting and screaming.
I was a little surprised to read even this much of a statement from him, given his history with improper use of firearms. I guess he had to say something, but this goes a tiny bit beyond the bare minimum I would have expected.
He did manage to mention al-Qaeda, so don’t give him any points.
.
it’s personal: “If I had a son, he would look like Trayvon.”
"But I will not let myself be reduced to silence."
.
"But I will not let myself be reduced to silence."
“murderer says murder is bad, film at 11:00”.
I’ve been wondering if the Republicans were going to be stupid enough to try to politicize even this. I guess the basic Republican assumption must be that if a bunch of liberals are shouting and screaming, they must be deeply wrong about whatever they’re shouting and screaming about. So it’s always your duty as a true conservative to oppose and condemn their shouting and screaming.
I mean, are we going to see a repeat of the contraception debacle here? There they thought they were winning a battle over religious freedom when in reality they were losing a battle over women’s health and women’s rights. Are the Second Amendment fetishists going to think this is a battle over gun rights and not even notice that they’re openly condoning the murder of black teenagers?
