I need to get over my dislike of posting cafes from my iPad.
So, how was your run, boran2? I did 4 miles yesterday morning in hat was record time for me. The weather was perfect, cool, overcast, a little damp…
And have the Fs made it Grand Junction yet? Are you going to Ouray or Telluride or Mesa Verde while you’re out that way?
I’m going back to work tis morning. Not so exciting…and I need to figure out a way to post my iPhone pictures of the sheep….
It looks like it will be a soggy day for us, following a very pleasant weekend. I’m getting my little camp ready for an all day hangout at the polls tomorrow. Don’t relish the thought of getting up in time to be there at 6 am.
Sorry about the early wake up for the polls today. How was turnout?
Turnout in a word – crappy – the worst I’ve seen since I started working that precinct over 10 years ago. There was only one primary contest on our ballot, a 5 way race for IN-9 Congress. On a more positive note, we have our first female candidate ever! Yay! Shelli has energy enough for 3 people ~ should be a good fight.
That’s really exciting. I’m looking forward to donating to her campaign.
Good luck at the polls.
I’m exhausted! Beautiful day to be outdoors, though. Hope you’re enjoying your outdoor adventures out west. Ever been to Glenwood Springs? Its a neat little town.
We drove past it on the interstate — does that count? 🙂
Well you missed the old Teddy Roosevelt photo murals that adorn the walls of the old hotel and spa there. I also wanted to visit Storm King Mountain, where 14 firefighters died back in 94. Our #2 son picked us up there and drove us over to Crested Butte via a “less-traveled-road” through the Gunnison National Forest. Not for the faint of heart, but extremely scenic. Went through about 60 miles of golden Aspen forest along the way. Have to say I was amazed at the deep blue overhead at the higher elevations.
Sounds like a really interesting place. We just did a backcountry from Grand Junction to Moab that included a stop for great expansive views of the red rocks and dinosaur tracks.
That sounds great! We could spend a lot more time wandering around out there, at least until serious winter arrived.
Good for you! I’ve been having overuse issues with my knees and did not run. I’ve got to give them some time off. Sigh.
Oh, that stinks. Are you taking ibuprofen or anything to calm them down inflammation-wise?
I ran in my old shoes one too many times, and it took a couple of weeks for my knees to get back to normal. I thought I was going to have to quit running if they didn’t get better. I hope yours are on the mend.
Thanks. I walked my two miles today instead of running my knees feel pretty good. My shoes are older and also I may be pronating. I’m going to go to a specialized shop before I attempt any long distances again. I’m glad that yours are better.
I’ve got to say I’m really impressed you used that photo for a cafe. I thought snakes would just scare everybody out of the last one. 🙂
We’re in Grand Junction, Colorado; the red (and all the other colors too) are gorgeous. Drove through a snow squall in the Rocky Mountains — it was kind of cool.

I wish we could have one of these in our yard so I could listen to the water music. Its very calming.
Even better — we hiked to an overlook of the confluence of the Green and Colorado Rivers yesterday and we could hear the rapids in the Colorado from about 800-1000 feet above. Just think of how that would sound flowing through your yard. 🙂
It would be the sound of a large home owner’s insurance claim. 😉
And I doubt the neighbors downstream would be very pleased.
My neighbors downstream is Happy Hollow. I’d think they’d be delighted to have such a great addition to the camp. 🙂
After a week of rain and gloom, it’s almost strange to see the sun in the sky. But not unwelcome.
The thing is, I would so totally read a dissertation on the history of black midwifery. That strikes me as very interesting.

Times are tough in the ole real estate market. I shared this on my favorite agent’s FB page in case he needed a self-promotion template.
We had a local sheriff who was running for office. His name is Bigger. His slogan, yes you guessed it, Bigger is better.
How good is Derek Jeter? He got two hits tonight to raise his average to .376.
Now, this chart has not yet added those two hits. Add them, and you realize that Jeter now has 3,141 career hits. That’s the exact same number as Tony Gwynn had in his career. Gwynn is widely considered the best hitter of most of our lifetimes and he took a two and a half more seasons than Jeter to get those hits.
After his next thirteen hits, Jeter will have passed Robin Yount, Paul Waner, and George Brett on the all-time list. And he’ll do in two and a half to three and a half fewer seasons. He needs 44 hits to pass Cal Ripken Jr. If he plays two more seasons after this and accumulates a modest 374 hits, he will retire in 4th place all-time, behind only Pete Rose, Ty Cobb, Hank Aaron, and Stan Musial.
That is freaking good.
Happy mom’s day to all mommies!

Green and very cool!
… which makes it very unlike all of hikes which are red, pink, coral, and beige and warm (but not hot, thankfully).
But apparently they are very colorful!
This has got it goin’ on!
Seems like we’re having a baby today. I tried to tell her to wait for CG’s birthday, but apparently she wasn’t having any of that.
Oh yay! I hope she doesn’t wait that long! And we’ll need pics too! 🙂
Congrats, SN, with a beautiful granddaughter! Saw your posts on FB.
She’s beautiful! And she shares a birthday with Wavy Gravy instead. 🙂
Woo hoo!
That’s wonderful news!
Nice pix over on FB. Congratulations! I suppose all the baby sniffers will be congregating?
Good morning everyone, and happy birthday to CabinGirl.
Thanks, ask!
Are you getting ready tip come back to the states soon?
Indeed, eight days in NY starting next Friday.
Happy birthday, CG!
Happy birthday! I hope your weather is like ours today ~ just gorgeous!
Oh, and good morning ask! Have a smooth flight home!

Now that’s a hump!
What a lovely hump! Where is it?
Hope you’re enjoying your travels!

And happy birthday!

Just wanted to remind y’all of today’s most important news item in global politics. Don’t miss any sleep now!
Ah, the Idyll Riche ~ but even more importantly, who really owns the rights to the rock logo? Perhaps Spain should try going after them for back royalties. I can envision multi-generational litigation over that issue. Think of the job creation potential for jurisprudence!
Unadulterated joy!

Fun stuff!
Well it looks as if at least one made it through the storm.
Oh, and congrats all around!
Thanks for the pic and update, Bob. Good to see at least one survivor.
Good news (and great shot). I hope that means the others did too.
That’s great and a very nice shot too. We have a nesting pair close by, but haven’t located the nest. The male has been entertaining us with his protective dances and chip, chipping, especially when the cat is outside with us.

Using a borrowed computer, mine is at the IT shop in an attempt to retrieve my email archive. Appears Live Mail does not support “unlimited” volume of emails in files. Without so much as a warning, yesterday morning when I opened Live Mail I could smell trouble when all files were empty and the message was: rebulding email data base. Luckily I had about 2 years worth of emails in my Inbox at the provider. Everything else appears “lost”. Say thanks to multi, multi billionaire BG and companions.

Sorry to hear that, Oui. I switched to Thunderbird a couple of years ago, which has an easy backup I can run. I’m pretty happy with it as an email client.

The ad I’m seeing asks Are you liberal or conservative ? with photos of JFK and Raygun. One would think that this would have been personally determined before spending time on this site…
They don’t really know us very well, do they? At least the Sheriff Joe PAC ads seem to be gone from my sidebar. Yuk ~ what an obnoxious individual!

And a precarious perch it is. Reminds me of the house of cards maintained by a certain well-known street in NYC.
It’s small things like this that often go overlooked but give you a great shot. Nice!
It really helps to get the shot when the lizard climbs on one of the cairns I’m using to follow the trail. 🙂
He’s trying to break through the sandstone ceiling. But that Geico gecko has ruined it for everyone.
Or he can’t because he’s so drab and has to compete this snappy dresser (who totally blows away the Geiko gecko).
Nice shot of Jim. Retirement agrees with him.
With a snake at the top of the cafe and a lizard down here, I was trying to figure out why Andi was spending so much time focusing on the Koch brothers.
The only problem is that when it gets cold, he won’t go anywhere.
Blocked! Sigh.
No small thing here: A partial solar eclipse over Texas. Of course I missed it, too busy watching out for lizards.
Sorry you missed it but then again, looking for lizards is way more fun than staring through a pinhole. 🙂
Supposedly we’ll all be able to see the upcoming total eclipse.

Ooooohs and aaaaaahs!
Nice shot!!!
For several years before retiring last June, I was our school’s 4th-6th grade Math Bowl coach. I loved it. Spending an hour before or after school 2 or 3 times a week for a dozen weeks to do hard math problems and puzzles with 25-30 eager students was one of the highlights each year.
A few weeks ago, I got a note from the teacher who took over the coaching job. He asked me to come to the sixth grade graduation to present an award to the student who had added the most to the team. The award would bear my name.
Last night, I had the honor of presenting the Ferguson Math Bowl Award to the first recipient. I can not tell you how honored I felt.
Wow! Congratulations, Jim. That is truly wonderful!!!
Fantastic, Jim! What an honor.
How wonderful to be remembered in such a good way. Congratulations!
That is wonderful!
This is awesome! There is nothing like being recognized by your peers.
That is seriously cool stuff! Congratulations!
Jim, that’s wonderful! Congratulations. 🙂
I have to bring a little boast.
swimmer is graduating college in a few days. I’ve been a little p-o’ed with her lately for not communicating – yes, I know it is busy with finals, but a few words would be nice.
Well, today I got all the news at once. Double major graduate (French/PolSci), straight A’s last semester (an occasional B previously). Got a job for next year as a teaching assistant for the English master program at the UofB… in x-town, France (trying to protect her privacy a little). Before that, going for 3 months as an intern with a well-known I-NGO to a war-torn country in western Africa. Way to go!
Another Wow! I must say, it is truly humbling to be surrounded by such awesome achievers.
But it is the young ones that inspire me. This is great news, ask. Brag on, brother!
In the words of a once famous movie and TV personality, “We’re not worthy! We’re not worthy!” But seriously, congratulations to you both!
Well at least Swimmer seems to have be using her lack of communication to good purposes. Congrats to you both.
Wow, she’s graduating already? And what a boatload of exciting news! Congratulations to you both!
Hard to believe, those years went fast!
And her little brother (now way taller than her) graduates high school next week.
He also has an adventurous year coming up – here.
That folkehøgskule sounds really neat. Does he speak Norwegian or will he be learning that?
He doesn’t speak much, though understands a bit. So the main point is for him to learn the language and history. It appears that he wants to start college next year in Norway or Sweden (he has lots of relatives on his mother’s side in Sweden).
But that school is fantastic, look at the elective subjects you can pick!
I did. I’m ready to enroll.
That’s what I said as well. When do we start?
A big mazel tov to both of you!
A twofer, great job!
Congratulations and good luck to swimmer! She is off to a good and fascinating start!
Woo hoo ask – congratulations to swimmer!
Continuing on with baby birds.
So much good news in the cafe today – including baby birds. 🙂
Hooray. I’m so happy they are showing up.
The cloudy gloom continues here in the Hudson Valley with t-storms likely. Needless to say that the drought is a distant memory.
Our drought may have begun even earlier this year. We haven’t had any rain for a couple of weeks now and temps are approaching 90F in the afternoons.
It is dry but all of the leaves near tulip trees are bright, shiny, and sticky with tulip tree scale honey dew: as are cars, mail boxes, roads, etc. I’ve never seen anything like it.
I’ve seen infestations around town and it was very noticeable under poplar trees overhanging the road to Bloomington the other night. We don’t have poplars in our yard, so no worries for the car, except for the normal summer bird whitewashings.
I hope you’re wrong about the drought but I’m absolutely afraid you are very right. The woods are already distressed from the droughts of the past summers; I think another one will end up killing a lot of trees.
We have been watching our smaller lakes dry up over the winter. The amount of birds feeding on what is left as the fish are concentrated is quite amazing. The lakes are lower than I’ve seen them in 18 years. Heading into June our summer pop-up thundershowers should have already started but they’re more sporadic than usual, although it looks like we’re going to get tropical storm Beryl, oh goodie.
We’re a bit luckier and in better shape than your area — we had a warmer but wetter winter and April had normal rainfall too.
Wish I could send you some of ours. At least some rain is predicted daily for the foreseeable future. I’m going to try and get my lawn cut before it starts again. You can almost see it growing now.

I wish you could send it too. It would make us both happier.
Good morning!
NY heat and humidity knocked me out yesterday. Came in Friday night from cooler, drier surroundings. Looks a bit better for today, but then the heat will be back tomorrow.
Welcome to the dog days of summer, now in May. I hope that you had a good flight, ask.
Sorry for the unfriendly greeting from the weather gods but hope everything else was delightful.

Good morning!
Are you guys still out west?
We escaped to friends on LI yesterday. Definitely cooler out here. Sitting by the pool now and listening to the birds. The house is quiet, no one else up yet after a late night with barbecue.
No, we’re back home but I took a huge number of photos so they’ll be posted in the cafe for a good while yet.
Sounds like a lovely way to spend the morning. It’s already 70 here, heading to a high of 93. But we’ll be back in the 70s as a high by Wednesday.
Well, they are lovely photos – looking forward to more of those.
Still quiet here, i’ll see if I can get some coffee going.
Jim just posted a link to album of pictures from the trip down below (but I’ll be posting other ones too).
Cool! Where is that?
It’s the Moqui (or Moki or Mokee) Dugway which is the end portion of Utah 261.
For those who don’t know, we drove from Indiana to Grand Junction, CO then down to the Monticello, UT area and back. Here are some of the sights we enjoyed.
http://s69.photobucket.com/albums/i62/jimferguson/Vacations/2012%20Colorado%20-%20Utah/?start=all
I really enjoyed that slideshow. Great photos.
Back in the city, looks like another scorcher.
It’s been brutal here for the last two days. But the 70s are coming! I’m already looking for cooler temps in May. Sigh.
We finally got a little rain this morning, the first at our house since May 1. Temps are gentler too ~ finally out of the 90s for awhile.
We had a soaker last night and more is coming. From near drought to near deluge. Extreme weather is the new normal.
Our 50 gal. rain barrel is almost full again. Today is quite pleasant ~ sunny and a high predicted of around 80. The rain is supposed to return tomorrow and, I imagine, drift out your way for the weekend.
Thanks, I think. 😉

A very nice hump indeed! They really have a big sky out there.
