First order of business this week: deep, profound, heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the Sr. Mary Hart Childrens’ Program fundraiser on Saturday night. By last count, the event had raised over $11,000 to support the summer camp and afterschool program Sr. Mary had started at St. Katharine Drexel Parish.
If you were lucky enough to be at the Church Hall Saturday night, you saw dozens of young people doing what Sr. Mary had urged, cajoled and encouraged them to do: leading, using the talents God gave them, paying it forward.
Our young people decorated the hall, made the centerpieces and place mats, prepared and served the food, put together and ran the evening’s program. We were surrounded by young engineers, teachers, pharmacists, artists, and computer professionals. This one is buying a home. That one is getting married. Another told of finishing the college degree after Sr. Mary had promised to “kick your a@@ all over Roxbury” if she gave up. All of them products of Sr. Mary’s “get-ready-for-high-school-and-college program”.
Again, thanks to all of you who pitched in. If you haven’t made a donation yet but would like to, it’s not too late.
Make checks payable to: Sr. Mary Hart Children’s Program, and mail c/o St. Katharine Drexel Church, 175 Ruggle St., Roxbury MA 02120. (Write “St. Katharine Drexel” on the memo line.) All proceeds will go directly to support the after-school program and summer camp Sr. Mary started.
