Jennifer Rubin doesn’t think the Republicans are right to call for a special prosecutor to investigate sensitive leaks from Obama administration officials. Her solution?
Rather than conduct private interrogations of culpable and innocent staffers alike, let Mitt Romney take it to Obama in the debates or let Sheldon Adelson pay for a thousand ads to bloom.
Why have an investigation when you can just politicize it and buy an election with a billionaire’s money?
The leaks came from the same damn place every administration of the last fifty years has leaked shit from: the White House basement.
Blabbing to the NYT or the Washington Post seems like half an NSC staffer’s job description.
So fuck these fucking hypocritical asshole Republicans for pulling this stunt. Nuke Congress from orbit, it’s the only way to be sure.
On one hand, I can understand the call for an investigation, but on the other hand not. In total, what’s the point? No one is going to win. And any WH is going to leak stuff for propaganda purposes.
There are so many things wrong with that article that I don’t know where to start. So, I’ll just point out that she is wrong about the legal status of disclosing classified information without authorization. Unless things have changed greatly in the last fifty years, when you are granted a security clearance you have to sign a document in which you swear under penalty of perjury that you will not disclose without proper authorization and “need to know”. It’s not some vague 1917 espionage statute. It’s the perjury statute that will get you five years in Leavenworth.
Sure, but we know government officials leak stuff all the time. To make themselves look good, obviously.
Oh yes, but the penalties are not had to apply legally as was stated. They are hard to apply politically.
Rubin is an apologist for big government. She just needs to skip all the middle steps and have the Department of Justice privatized. Adelson’s company can bid to run it, just like any other company can.
Also, too: Elections? That’s money we could be returning to shareholders. A waste of time!
I don’t think Obama stands a chance against the potentially billions of dollars the Super PACs will buy to bamboozle low-information voters.
Get ready for a Romney presidency, and rebuilding a progressive movement that is grassroots and not based around personality.
couldn’t help yourself could you?
I guess all those people busting their asses at OFA the last 3+ years don’t count.
I guess all those people who participated in 2008 and 2010 and now in 2012 for the first time don’t count.
I guess the stuff that DFA is doing doesn’t count.
