I’m sorry to see Andy Griffith go. I always liked him. Our teenagers don’t seem to know who he was. Not even his Matlock character. That makes me feel old. Of course, they didn’t know who Gilligan was either.
We spent the day hiking along the coast between Thunder Hole and the Otter Cliffs, and then eating fried seafood down by the Southwest Harbor. We’ve had three straight gorgeous days here in Maine, although it has been a little hotter than expected. There are a lot of bumper stickers around here declaring that people are part of the 61% who didn’t vote for the Tea Party governor.
There’s a place in town selling lobster for $3.99/lb. I think I may have to amble down that way, if I can find a lobster pot somewhere.
I’m hoping to get out on the water in the next couple of days, budget and weather permitting, but I am disappointed to learn that the National Ocean Service says mermaids don’t exist. That is such b.s.

Sounds like he’s just as popular as the rest of the Teahadist Governors. As popular as the Clap.
At least in around Bar Harbor, that’s certainly true.
Mermaids don’t exist??? Next, you’re going to tell me Reagan didn’t raise taxes, deficits don’t matter and that Jesus didn’t walk on water.
Where is your faith, brother???? What are you? Some kind of reality based person?
Ah, but the selkie-folk are another story entirely;-)
Did you ever see The Secret of Roan Inish?
Fascinating story.
I hadn’t, but its now in my Netflix queue. Thanks ask!
Andy Griffith left us with one last bite of wisdom when he and Opie did the Vote for Obama youtube in the last election.
There was mention that his radio monologues done before his tv career began were hillarious. I’ve been looking around for them, hopefully I’ll have a light bulb moment and they’ll show up.
Check the Internet Archives. Also see his Playhouse 90 TV version of No Time for Sergeants.
he also did one praising Obamacare and what it will do for seniors:
North Carolinians know exactly who Andy Griffith was. He was Sir Walter Raleigh. For four years 1949-1953. At the outdoor drama The Lost Colony, written by North Carolina playwright Paul Green.

Awesome Andy Griffith Show tune. He was a national treasure.
Have fun with your fam Booman. Happy 4th Everyone.
I’m reminded yet again that I need to see A Face in the Crowd, although it might be a trick finding a copy here locally.
Hey, is that Corexit Lobster they’re selling? Nice to see they aren’t charging extra for it yet, if so.
Southwest Harbor is awesome ! We’re not going to get there this year, but we’ve been there quite a few times. Did you get ice cream at Quietside Cafe yet? Or a giant blueberry muffin at Sawyer’s…
got some ice cream there tonight. Better than Ben & Jerry’s.
Nice ! Top of the Hill restaurant is one of our faves…
We keep driving by there.
