I wonder if Mitt Romney knows that when he appears on Fox News the rest of us can’t hear him. Oh, yes, we can read about his appearance if he says anything noteworthy, but the people who he needs to vote for him do not watch Fox News. Going on Fox and complaining about Solyndra is a little like going on the SiFi network and declaring a belief in UFOs. You’re preaching to the choir and no one else thinks what you’re talking about is real or, in any case, a pressing issue.
The media has the volume on your tax returns set at eleven and you’re whispering on a partisan network about a fake conspiracy theory. YOU”RE LOSING!!
Romney probably doesn’t want to answer questions about Bain. He’s refusing to release the tax returns. Stupid, stupid.
Actually, I bet he is making the correct decision. I’m with George Will and Matt Dowd. He can’t release them or things would get much worse.
agreed.
I think you’re right: he got paid for 3 or 4 years for doing nothing, and probably didn’t pay any taxes on it either.
And look at [how he made his money http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-07-15/romney-s-bain-yielded-private-gains-socialized-losses.html. I’d like a law that allows people to claw Romney’s ill-gotten fortune back from him.
Retroactively, of course. ]
.
Don’t fall behind BooMan, today we see the third wave in the attack on Willard – Bain Capital Profiting With Milken’s Junk Bonds.
"But I will not let myself be reduced to silence."
Not releasing the returns makes him look dishonest. It allows people to make up reasons. He is going to have to release them.
Obama will have a field day with this.
I just read Attaturk and he said Romney’s just released a new commercial mocking Obama’s singing. Has anyone seen it? This would be the lamest move ever, proof positive that a bunch of six-year-olds are running his campaign.
The ad’s up. While Obama sings you see text telling you he gives jobs and contracts to his friends. It’s pretty pathetic.
Psychological Projection
Obviously all progressives are thrilled that the focus is on RMoney and vulture capitalism rather than on the economy but is there any hard evidence this is effecting swing voters? For instance the Pollster.com average of all polls still has Romney down by just 2% nationally (as before) and even when you filter out Rasmussen polls the gap is only 3% .
PS can anybody advise a poor European why relatively poor people would donate to a multimillionaire to bollster his political ambitions?
PPS I know most of his donations come from rich people, but still – I would be telling him to use his own money if I were a millionaire.
PPPS – does all this mean Obama would be losing if the GOP had a half decent candidate?
People have multiple self-interests. If your main hobby is going hunting in the woods on weekends with your buddies, you’re probably going to vote for a Republican, even a rich one like Romney.
If your #1 moral issue is opposition to abortion, you’re likely to vote for Romney.
If you had a really bad experience with a union, you may be a Romney supporter.
(Just a few possible examples.)
Obama might be losing if the GOP had a half decent candidate, yes. However, for the GOP to produce a half decent candidate, they would have to have someone who has some relationship with reality, who believes that government can create jobs (and not just by trimming regulations), and would be willing to take an absurdly lopsided budget deal such as 10 dollars of cuts for 1 dollar of revenue increases. Just for starters.
The problem is in such a world, Obama would be an even more accomplished president since he would have gotten a certain amount of cooperation from Congress. This would not only improve the economy but also polish Obama’s bipartisan bring-everyone-together bona fides. His chances at re-election would be that much stronger.
Presumably Bain have Board minutes for the period when RMoney was supposedly inactive. Has anybody pressed Bain to release them to prove RMoney wasn’t involved in any way? If they refuse to release them, it could be interpreted as meaning he actually was involved in at least some key decisions – e.g. re. key appointments etc.
TPM and David Corn have hit a wall of silence on their requests.
Via James Fallows, A Corporate Veteran Writes:
If you weren’t in charge at Bain in 1999-2001, who was? If Mitt Romney had ‘retroactively’ retired — who was ‘proactively’ managing Bain Capital? Just a simple name — or a committee would do. (Next question, why wasn’t this person listed on the SEC forms?)
Seems like a bunch of people are on the same track.
I was just reading about them invoking Teresa Heinz Kerry. THK ain’t running for Pres jackasses! so ok, then what’s on Ann Romney tax forms, oh wait she ain’t got any Ann & Mitt file together! so how does that help mittens
anyhow, “Still Unanswered if you’ve lost dick Halperin?????
oh, & fox and friends bringing up Obama using cocaine because ” that’s a felony right”. WTF. and Donald trump on his release Obama school transcript bs. ugh.
……….and I want to see the score on Obama’s driving test, dammit!! And not just the score, I want to see the tester’s notes!!
I was wondering about felonies committed by Presidents or Presidential candidates. There seem to be quite a few.
Romney’s false SEC filings.
Romney was 18 and thus legally an adult when he spearheaded what would certainly qualify as a felony assault against another student.
Obama’s drug use in college?
G.W. Bush for securities fraud in relation to Harken Energy. G.W. Bush for DUI. G.W. Bush for falsifying military records?
Do you want to do LBJ? It could be a very long list. There was a LOT of influence peddling involved in how he got his millions. There was election fraud in the Democratic Senate primary in 1948. There are allegations that he hired a hit man to kill an investigator looking into his dealings with Billy Sol Estes.
Part of the problem is that there are some things that are felonies that shouldn’t be. A bigger problem is that some shady characters get into high places.
he’s whining like a bitch about Teresa Heinz-Kerry?
Yes…yes he is. (No one is quite sure why.)
I’m thinkin he’s going to make a VP announcement this week to distract, let the VP be his “Rocko” and then Mitt will skip town to start his European tour.
Oh, and did you hear he hasn’t invited Sarah to the Convention? TParty sputtering mad.
Will it be T-Paw??
I’m in the last to know camp, sorry. I did laugh Friday when Duncan Hunter was on CURRENT crowing how John Kaisch was the best fighter and should be VP.
Sorry, it was JD Hayworth.
If he does try to “change the narrative” by announcing his VP pick, I’d take it as a sign of real panic.
That would only give everyone an extra month to pick apart the VP nominee, and there’d still be time (and plenty of opportunity) to go back to the Bain Capital and tax return stories.
T-paw, the only man more boring than Romney. An excellent choice for Mitt!
Have they no imagination? How about a moderate Republican woman like Collins or Snowe? But I answered my own question. Because no one picks a VP that’s a better candidate than themselves.
Still wondering if Gingrich will start throwing hand grenades at the Convention.
