I’d say it died with the dinosaurs.
The difference is that there is cable tv, Fox, for instance and wingnut radio. There’s so much of it and so many ignorant and lazy members of the msm.
It died when prosperity stopped flowing to the middle class in broad measure. The corporate and financial elite took things too far, too fast, in the modern, highly liquid, frictionless global environment.
But rather than admit that, and agree to give a little back, they’ve got to just lie instead. All they’d have left to sell otherwise is feudalism and Calvinism and the divine right of kings.
They haven’t even agreed on when the Roman Empire fell.
Like the American Empire, it fell in a continuous process. The same is true for the Truth.
I’m pretty sure Somerby has it down to the second.
“Restore Anglo-Saxon relations…” W.T. Holy F!!!!!!
Mitt Romney would restore ‘Anglo-Saxon’ relations between Britain and America
Wow, just wow.
So, even all the white Americans of Irish, French, German, Swedish, Dutch, Italian, Polish, Greek etc etc extraction are underpeople also.
The Know-Nothings have been out there secretly breeding for over a century and a half. Who knew? Next they’ll be commissioning a shrine to the founders in downtown Manhattan.
Funny that I have two Mayflower ancestors on one side of the family and one on the other side, and I was thrilled to do my part electing Barack Obama president. Did you know his grandfather fought with Patton?
No, I didn’t know that. It’s very interesting.
BTW, from the tone of the replies I think people have misconstrued my post. I do NOT agree with Romney. I was expressing astonishment that he is now so restrictive that only Anglo-Saxon’s are real Americans. How does that play with the Southern Scots-Irish? Is he just banking on hatred of dark skin?
My paternal line is Scots-Irish. Most of them don’t really know the difference, and don’t care. All they will hear is the dog whistle, which is exactly what Romney’s people are counting on.
Ah me. If they knew the history of Scotland and Ireland they would bristle at “Anglo-Saxon”
I should also mention that my mother’s father’s father signed his name with an X at Ellis Island. I have Mayflower roots, but I also have poor illiterate Italian immigrant roots.
Me too! Although I don’t know about the illiterate part. My grandfather had the fifth grade education that was required in Italy at the time. He did read Italian-language newspapers (EVERY ethnic newspaper is available in Chicago), but couldn’t read English although he was quite fluent in spoken English. I guess that meant he couldn’t spell or understand the syntax, but his spoken syntax was OK, vernacular but OK, and he didn’t make the “he/she” instead of “it” mistake common to native speakers of Romance languages. Also he used articles correctly.
Well, one definitely mustn’t forget Poland. He’ll probably give a speech about restoring that special relationship too on Kociusko, though I see from Wikipedia Kociusko takes us into problematic territory for Romney because he bequeathed his American Rev pay to Thomas Jefferson to use for freeing and paying for education of slaves, something Romney probably would not retroactively support.

so much for giving back the bust of Churchill. And I was just about to complain that there was nothing entertaining on the intertubz tonight when I must work all night.
I’d argue that it was the moment that postmodern “thought” became mainstream…
It became mainstream? Where?
Media – it’s all a story, no truth.
This assumes that future anthropologists and archeologists will find the United States relevant.
An empire that is already in free fall after only 70-odd years may well be only a small part of the future story.
Not necessarily appropriate, but not at all inappropriate: “So bye, bye Miss American Pie; drove m’chevy to the levee but the levee was dry. And good od boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye, singin’ this’ll be the day that I die, this will be the day that I die. …
And the three men I (once) admired most, the father son and holy ghost, they caught the last train for the coast, the day, the music, died.”
Upstream you’ve a post “America isn’t in decline, it’s broken”. I’m sorry, but history will record the appointment by an ideologically stacked activist court of a dynastic frat boy with limited intelligence, virtually no education or practical experience and a dobtful service record to the highest office in the land as The End of America. It’s all over but the mopping up of spilt milk. We’re where we’re at on rapidly running out momentum.
My g’da had a fifty Ford one-ton pickup, with no windshield wipers. Iasked him “granpa why don’t you have wipers?” He said “see beyond the windshield, boy.” It’s time to look beyond the windshield.
