In 2008, Bill Kristol extolled the virtues of the then little-known governor of Alaska and urged John McCain to pick her as his running mate. Today, Kristol and Steve Hayes do the same for Marco Rubio and Paul Ryan. I pray that Romney heeds their “wisdom.” Paul Ryan has introduced a budget proposal so toxic that Democrats discovered it was hard to run against because voters simply refused to believe that a major political party would propose anything like it. And Marco Rubio is most famous for defrauding his own party by using the Florida GOP’s credit card to pay for maintenance on his car and liquor purchases. They are the absolute worst choices for VP that can be imagined.

I don’t who they pick because they’re not going to win!
Which is the primary argument for going big. It’s why McCain took a shot with Palin. For a few weeks, it seemed like a genius move. I remember feeling so depressed when McCain was up on Obama. If he wants to go high risk, maybe Jindal (and hope to God he’s ready for prime time).
It is hard, though, to imagine Romney making the call for Ryan or Rubio. He’s stupid enough to do it but way too risk averse. Obviously there’s Pawlenty or Portman. I could see Christie too, particularly since he might put New Jersey in play.
Would Christie accept? Hard to say. I have a sense he’s sitting on something that he knows won’t bear the level of scrutiny. But if he is angling for 2016, what’s the downside to being on the ticket in 2012. Unless he really screws up, would make him the insider’s choice next time around.
They are the absolute best choices for VP that can be imagined.
Fixed!! 😉
I don’t think Wisconsin has a Lyndon Law. If Paul Ryan runs for VP, he can’t stay on in Congress.
Too bad. I won’t have Paul Ryan to kick around anymore.
I don’t think Wisconsin has a Lyndon Law.
Or what most of us might call the Droopy Dog, or Joe Biden for that matter, law. In honor of a certain retiring Senator from CT.
Which would give the Dems a good shot at taking the seat. Well, they have a good shot already but so far appear to be scared to go after it. It would be much more delicious to defeat Ryan on his own turf than have him slide away into a VP attempt. Apparently the Dems and the indie lib/left outfits are all too mesmerized by past numbers to put up a real fight, though.
There was also Rubio’s “confusion” about whether he comes from “Cuban refugees” or just immigrants. The guy just has a haze of sleaze around him that won’t pass the smell test if he jumps into the national political spotlight. I don’t think even Romney would be this stupid, and certainly not this risk-taking.
Ryan would be a gift from the gods, a flashing 24/7 neon sign reminding voters that the “Ryan Plan” would wreck all the social progress the US has made since the Depression, cast the money gap in stone, and put us on the road to 3rd world status — and that Romney and the GOP approve that message. Bring him on.
Are they the absolute worst choices for Romney, though? I’m sure Palin would be more than happy to give it another shot. I could see Romney desperately trying to win Iowa by naming Steve King, or MN with Bachmann. There’s a whole world of choices out there when you have no character or principles at all.
Dick Cheney isn’t up to much these days, is he?
Forgot about him. The charisma ticket for sure. Lowest combined approval rating in history. Let’s do it!
I keep thinking the surpirse is up. Since McCain chose young and ignorant Romney will choose older and arrogant. He’ll want someone with a story that’s familiar, who represents a moment in time when Rep = strength & pulled Americans together. Someone who has a personal experience with fear and leadership.
I’m thinking our old friend Rudy Guilliani is a VP pick that could be pretty entertaiing. He’s got so much baggage but it’s baggage that money can spin. My 2 cents.
Won’t happen; Rudy’s pro-choice
Like I said, he carries alot of baggage but what he represents is the last time that the GOP saw Americans cheering them on. It’s been bleak since then but Rudy is associated with leadership at that come together moment.
Besides, it’d be entertaining.
Old and arrogant? It would be hilarious if Romney chosen McCain! 😉
What Romney needs most is what he won’t choose: someone that upstages him. Too bad because the image of Romney & Christie would be like Laurel & Hardy.
Maybe the better question is who would want it and also not completely embarrass an already embarrassing POTUS candidacy?
Christie won’t take it.
He’s in the catbird seat. If he decides that 2016 is an R year he can jump in with both feet. If the TP causes the R’s to split big time, he can wait until 2028 if he has to.
Nah. Christie is going nowhere.
Uh, Chris Christie is unlikely to be around in 2028. People that fat rarely ever live that long. True fact.
Ryan, PLEASE, PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE WITH SUGAR ON TOP, Ryan, PLEASE
