Roger Stone has been ratfu*king Democrats for 40 years. This is the first time I’ve seen him try to ratfu*k a Republican.
I’ve waited a few days to lay out my analysis of the selection of Paul Ryan for the VP slot on the Romney ticket. Unlike politicos like Dick Morris who bad-mouths the selection privately and shills for it publicly, I’ll tell you what I really think. My sources tell me David Koch played a key role in Ryan’s selection and that Koch’s wife Julia had been quietly lobbying for Ryan. The selection was cemented at the July 22nd fundraiser Koch held for Romney at the former’s sumptuous Hamptons estate.
Koch pledged $100 million more to C-4 and Super PAC efforts for Romney for Ryan’s selection.
Probably nothing will come of it, but it is interesting to know that Stone is working this cycle not for the Republicans, but for Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson. Some people think he was behind the downfall of Eliot Spitzer. I don’t know if that’s true, but Mr. Stone has a long record of effective use of the political black arts.
Isn’t Stone one of the founding members of Citizens United? Only at the time of founding, they called themselves Citizens United, Not Timid–you know, because they had a Hilary movie, and haw haw. Must be the same group.
Dunno, but as a college student he managed to place a Nixon mole as Hubert Humphrey’s driver.
Egads. Shades of O’keefe.
Stone took down Al Gore, he took down Eliot Spitzer and he destroyed Ross Perot’s Reform Party. Romney should be frightened. Very frightened.
You are right about both parts.
Also some suggestions that he played a role in the TANG document set-up. If so, would guess that he got whatever payoff he requested from the Bushies for giving the key to taking it down.
If there were ever birds of a feather it would seem to be the Kochs and Roger Stone. With the former on the MittMobile, it’s possible that Stone is merely throwing a hissy fit, then again…
So, this is a fairly minor point, but, uh…what does any of this mean?
This appears well beyond inside baseball. So there’s maybe a schism between the Kochs and other longtime Republican backers and financiers? And?
Familiarize yourself with the enemy. Although, interestingly, he is now our friend. Until he isn’t.
Yeah, still not getting it, I guess.
“Big business” Republicans like Romney and Ryan are on the way out? The path to power is genuine libertarianism, not that false teabagger crap ginned up by interests like the Kochs?
Never mind what Stone is saying, what are you saying here?
What am I saying?
Not much, really.
The most notorious living dirty trickster in American politics, who has been a player since 1972 in Republican politics, is trying to ratfuck Mitt Romney.
Make of that whatever you want.
OK…
Even their own guys are in on it.
Thank you and goodnight.
AG
Well, you would say that, wouldn’t you?
Yes I would.
Do you have a better explanation?
AG
Yes. The GOP is fucked up, big time.
First one side wins, then the other. Back and forth, back and forth. But the basic eonomic imperialist policies remain in effect no matter who wins and so do the laws that favor the 1%. The same 1% who finance both parties and own the media that maintain order in FixWorld, U.S.A.
Hmmmmmm….
Wake the fuck up.
AG
too pat by far.
No, this time it is simply that the children in charge of the R’s have very little political experience, and that was gained in landslide elections and safe seats.
Yes, Virginia, the R’s are truly as stupid as they seem. Where is Mark Hanna when you need him?
I’m just a simple country historian, AG, but you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to understand that a big hunk of the powers that be, really, really, seriously does not want Obama to be elected to a second term, nor Congress to be controlled by the Democrats, and that they are spending a shitload of money trying to prevent it. Surely there’s a reason for that.
I think you are missing the point. My guess is very few GOPer establishment types probably like Willard. Kinda funny in a way. Anyway, they’re aiming for ’16, so they’d prefer Willard lose now. After all, the Zombie-eyed Granny-starver isn’t going to get tainted with the loss. Stone isn’t the only GOPer sticking the shiv in, if you’ve been paying attention. Just look at how many GOPers are echoing the call for Willard to release the normal amount of tax records.
Thanks for the link. That’s some interesting reading. The article says Stone hates elites, so maybe his motivation is a not-uncommon personal loathing for Romney.
Not that that’s all that ground-breaking or important, but at the very least, it’s better to not have this guy on the Romney team this year–not that we can assume he won’t go after Obama, either, of course.
Look at Willard’s campaign? Does anyone remember an as stupidly run GOP Presidetial contest as this one? Does it look like the GOP is trying to win? Do you really think many people in the GOP establishment like Willard, even though he’s their type? It’s obvious to me that they’re gearing up for ’16.
he’s so not our friend, but the news is not surprising.
Roger Stone used to appear regularly on CNN back in the days when they actually had some ratings. His turn to the Libertarian Party makes him a friend of Liberty. Are you sure that doesn’t include you?
Big-L Liberty? Thanks, no, that ain’t me. That’s for free-market chumps who want to pay top dollar for every little itemized thing that gets them through their day.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I find this information really interesting, and really frightening. If Koch would only pledge the money if he got Ryan as VP, then he must have some big plans. Which we knew already, but I find this particular details to be frightening.
It’s scary that be man with a zillion dollars can determine foreign policy. With Israel, no less. What was the SC thinking? How can this be legal?
I know we laugh about Vince foster and all, but I consider anything possible with Koch. Not in a good way.
If I were Mitt Romney, and I won the election, I would hire a taster and a couple of private bodyguards that were ironclad loyal. Koch plays dirty.
Might suggest that he follow your suggestion after his formal nomination.
“Go Team Red!”
Any other questions?

One seriously messed up dude:
The Koch website American Tradition can be traced to Austin TX, same location as AmericansForJerusalem and from my diary:
Do retain that IP website list. It could be useful if (when?) other information begins to surface.
Probably coincidental but still worth a huh?
Was Mitt’s trip to Poland not a whim of his but an order?
The presence of anti-semitic websites there seemed to conform with my hazy memories of the John Birch Society, but a Wiki check indicated that that wasn’t official policy. Noted the original location of JBS — Belmont, MA — and its relocation to Joe McCarthy’s WI hometown. Then this:
(Sound like anyone we’ve heard of lately?)
Then this:
I just watched “Client 9,” the documentary about Spitzer. Stone is the guy who said he was in a strip club in Miami and met a call girl who told him Spitzer screwed with his socks on. He’s also the guy who left a message threatening Spitzer’s father. They play it in the doc, and interview him. He may be the oddest character in politics.
Odd to say the least. Reading his bio immediately reminded me of E. Howard Hunt, in terms of personality quirks or whatever.
He has a tenuous relationship with the truth so who knows about Koch demanding Romney pick Ryan, although it’s perfectly plausible. I have no idea if he tipped the FBI about Spitzer either. He’s the type of guy who would happily take credit for it. I don’t believe his story about the Miami call girl for a second. And he claims Spitzer tapped his phone and cobbled together the nasty message he left for Spitzer’s father.
They are all spooks.
Liars, thieves and hustlers.
And y’all choose sides.
Good cop/bad cop.
Good spook/bad spook.
Ridiculous.
But true.
WTFU.
AG
LIke I said…spook.
AG
Spook.

You know, Arthur, the problem with always claiming conspiracies or unknown forces shaping the world (which is different from religion how, exactly?) is that when conspiracies actually do occur, nobody will believe you.
I’ve been on Stone’s mailing list for quite a while (who knows why they added me). He’s pretty wacko on a lot of things, and I wouldn’t put trust in any of his claims without verification. That said, he does have a lot of contacts, and virtually anything accusing Romney of being a spineless sellout has the whiff of plausibility about it.
All this year in his mailings Stone has been after Romney as not being a “real” conservative, and as with most wingers, an emerging fact like his pick of Ryan isn’t going to change his mind – instead of his being pleased that a Teahadist like Ryan is on the ticket, the automatic assumption is that Ryan is in on the conspiracy, too.
He may well be right on that – the notion that the Teahadists are being played for rubes by GOP’s Wall Street types is not exactly unique, or unlikely. But in all likelihood Stone reached his conclusion first, and then went looking for any evidence that might back it up.
The next time Roger Stone tells the truth will be the first time he tells the truth.
Roger Stone is a patriot. Youngsters in this blog do not know that he took a bullet for America during the Nixon administration and later consulted with Reagan and was instrumental in winning the cold war. He saved us all from nuclear destruction. Those that would malign him because he supports a fighter for liberty like Gary Johnson should be on notice. Freedom and liberty are things that must be constantly fought for and renewed. Our country has turned into a socialist society and certainly cannot be maintained at this debt level. Before you cast stones at Stone . . . make sure your convictions are true.
You must not know what socialism is.
Of course he knows — it’s all the evil stuff that Democrats and liberals do in their never-ceasing drive to destroy America the Beautiful. Isn’t it obvious?
Spoken like Stone himself. “Took a bullet for democracy,” did he?
I think I can help clarify this for the broad thinking pundits in this forum. Roger Stone is a Vulcan. He channeled Richard Nixon’s Chakra into Ronald Reagan and saved the Earth. Any questions?
I though chakra was some kind of freaky Hindu sex thing?
