It sounds like this goddamned Frankenstorm is headed straight for me. If it comes ashore near Delaware, we are going to get slammed. And it sounds like it is going to be a giant disaster even if doesn’t come ashore. Some people are even saying that it could impact the election which won’t occur for a week or more after the worst of the storm. The worst will be if there is a lot of snow because there are still leaves on the trees. The weight on the branches will cause downed power lines from that alone, and then we’ll have tropical force winds on top of it. I can imagine a situation where the eastern half of Pennsylvania has no power and people are still clearing roadways. That would be great news for Mitt Romney. Hell, it could help him Virginia, too.
Go vote early if you can. In Pennsylvania, we can’t.
I think I disagree a bit with your premise about helping Romney. Storm damage will be more extensive and take longer to clean up in rural areas, where Republicans live. It’s hard for me to imagine that the storm will disrupt voting all that much in metro Philadelphia or Washington. I could be wrong, but that’s how I see it based on my experiences.
big mistake. The Philly burbs are heavily wooded. If turnout is down in the East but not in the West, Romney can win PA.
Are the Philly burbs now Obama strongholds, or are they pretty split?
the Philly Burbs are where Democrats are elected statewide. Philly alone won’t do it.
There’s also a huge advantage to the incumbent here, if FEMA gets out ahead of this thing and responds quickly to emergencies as they arise. Mitt is powerless to do anything about that.
Unless of course there’s a tree in your yard blocking your trip to the polls. We just a had a mini version of this earlier in week. All the trees are still heavy with leaves and the wet snow broke limbs making a mess. If we’d had a heavy wind on top of it nobody could have gotten into town.
Btw, 4×4 got me over the pass to pick up pup and back again. Grizzly trip but she’s already taken over the household. Damn but Newfies are cute puppies.
FWIW, I don’t think snow is imminent except in the mountains. The lowest temp I see forecast for Philly is 39ºF.
Pictures, please! (of the puppy, of course.)
Really sorry, no camera! At 15 pounds and built like a mini tank who trots around the house like she owns it she should be ready to take on the world by Halloween!
Goddam it. I’m flying in and out of Providence RI next week. Better take my sleeping bag for the f’ing airport.
Can’t we at least pretend to care for those that have actually been impacted by the storm in Cuba, Haiti, and Jamaica?
We’re getting awfully damn close to making everything that happens anywhere in the world all the time about US elections. Works well for the global elite for the citizens of this country to be continuously focused and obsessed with elections. Such a cheap way to dupe the masses.
Your comment reminded me of this storm report from The Onion some time back. Found it and it’s from 4 years ago, also election season but they do it in non-election years as well. I can only guess that the US entertainment-as-news industry and their sponsors have calculated that American consumers don’t care about disasters when it’s Those Other People suffering. Or the advertisers don’t want the viewers upsetting their pretty little heads about the misfortune of others. Bad for business, you know.
Definitely related to what I felt. Thank you for sharing it.
Boo…batten down the hatches!
Here’s my “model” forecast:
National popular vote: Romney 50.8, Obama 48.2
Electoral College: Romney 277, Obama 261
Deciding State: Ohio. Romney 49.6, Obama 49.5
He’s got a new name. His new election forecasting model is complete, I see. Here’s his proprietary formula:
Just wanted to say I am enjoying these pictures, and it’s a happy, visual reminder to just pass on by without reading.
FYI…Romney wins Colorado and New Hampsire
Make sure you have your emergency supplies. If you have a house, it’s a little late to get a Generac generator, but consider it for the future. The climate isn’t going to get better you know.
If I was little more paranoid, I’d add get a shotgun and good supply of shells, if only because others are doing it with even more firepower.
We lost power for days last year. It was no fun at all. Sleeping in subfreezing temperatures in an unheated house made life extremely uncomfortable.
That sucked last year. We finally got our power back on Halloween, and we’re so exhausted we didn’t even take Finn trick or treating.
I hope we don’t get a repeat.
Well I hope that Finn gets a chance to go this year!
I think Salunga slipped on the rating…
OK.

Can’t y’all feel the momentum! We’re going to turn this thing around!
Me vs. Nate Silver!
Romney 50.8, Obama 48.2
Romney wins 277 EV’s, winning Ohio 49.6 to 49.5…it’s only that close due to the stupid poll from Time showing Obama up by five…in reality, Rommey likely wins Ohio by 1 to 1.5…
But I won’t fudge my “model” like Nate Silver does…
“Greg” has got a new name today but he’s still the same…
Boo. You’re scaring the children. Lighten up, Francis.
Sorry, I just love saying Lighten Up, Francis.
