I’ve been trying to distract myself will election related stuff offline. I did a run to check turnout levels at various precincts. Turnout is high, but the retirement home precinct I checked was below expectations (that’s good) and my home precinct is set to break all records (that’s bad). Overall, the early signs are that youth turnout is surprisingly high and at the same basic level as 2008. The Latino turnout is up modestly. The black vote is high and above where Romney hoped it would be. Republican skulduggery has been rampant and unconscionable. Drudge Report leaked some Exit Poll data but I wouldn’t pay him any mind. Use this thread to give your impressions and to share any good links you have to useful information.

I can tell you that just in my own case, people are PISSED and have been pissed at what’s been going on in those states like OH and FL. My conversation and FB timeline have all been ranting about the GOP trying to surprise our votes.
Rev Al just said on MSNBC that the GOP attempts to suppress or disenfranchise minority voters have awakened a hidden beast of pissed off people who refuse to let them take away our votes that people like John Lewis, MLK, Jesse Jackson and all those who fought, died and bleed for.
Getting prepped to moderate the Balloon Juice liveblog.
I posted my prediction there last night, but for good measure:
-Obama gets 332 EV, 4% PV margin
-Democrats pick up seats in the Senate (I am unsure how many, though)
-House GOP maintains majority and Eric Cantor kicks out John Boehner
I voted this morning at 6 am before work; left work early because my supervisor left to vote at 3, and I needed him to do any work.
Anyway, my voting line was 10000% more diverse than our state elections. Half were minority voters. I was shocked. Confederate Central, after all. Go Powell!
Boo:
What was your voting experience? Were you asked for ID?
Anyone have any info on the PA photo ID tomfoolery? Residents were being asked by election officials “to have ID ready” , according to some DKos diaries this morning. Was OFA ready with info and a plan to combat this?
Any way to estimate the level of urban vote suppression this may have accomplished? This was a hugely forseeable problem.
I’m in PA, although no one asked to see my ID, it was much faster to just voluntarily hand the Clerks doing the sign-in an ID so that they could find your name easier…and after standing in line in the freezing cold for an hour, I didn’t want any further delays.
I’m not sure if it was intentional because I live in a very Republican area, but one of the clerks that was signing-in voters is a very kind, but very elderly woman who is extremely active with the Borough. Unfortunately, she and her counter part were quite slow getting people signed-in.
We get a card in the mail with our name, address, and where our voting location is. That’s what we show when we come in – no ID.
I couldn’t find my voter registration card (I got a new one in 2010); many others in line were voluntarily using their IDs as well.
Here, if you bring your Sample Ballot with you, it has a bar-code on it that will speed up the process. But all you need is to know your name and address and be able to sign your name. They can not ask for ID of any kind.
When I early-voted I brought my sample ballot, which I had marked up in advance and it did speed things up. But last time I didn’t and they were fine with looking it up.
But I learned that they must say “It’s a match” when they verify your signature with the scanned copy of your voter registration in their database (if it is a reasonable match) because I looked at the woman funny when she said that and she apologized and said she has to say that to confirm that she did look at it. Interesting…
Vermont, as in 2008, is once again the first state in the blue column.
My youngest grandson called me from Alabama to tell me that he voted for the first time (he’s 18). So Obama got at least one vote down there. Wish I was as excited about voting as he is. Ah, well, once I was also.
Just wanted to share. My baby grandson, who used to watch Sesame Street sitting on my belly. Treasure it, Martin. Treasure it.
My son is 18 this year. We went together and voted. Obama and Kaine got two votes each here in Virginia! It was good day. Time flies. :}
My grandson voted 4 times for Obama today. This makes the 5th time he has voted for Obama because I made sure he voted in Alabama when he was three.
I caught serious flack in 2008 for bringing a black kid into the precinct. Some bimbo tried to make a fuss about me taking him into the voting booth. Fuck ’em. This ain’t Mississippi OR Alamaba
Not looking good for RMoney.
I tried to watch Fox News to see how they’re dealing with the results. They’ve seen the same exit poll data everyone else has and they’re not happy. So they are looking hard for all the good news for Mitt Romney that they can find.
Of course I have no idea of what the exit polls say, how they were conducted or how they account for early voting.
But I’ve had enough Fox for tonight, I think.
I’ve had enough for a lifetime, Randy.
I’m afraid that Fox News is like herpes. It never goes away and you can only treat the symptoms.
Looks like Romney is beating pants off Obama and Allen is handing Kaine his head. Driving home, the radio said exceptionally heavy voting in NoVA. WTF? All those civil servants want to become unemployed?
Anyone out there that can clarify?
Um, what?
The internal (republican) exit polls had Virginia tied (president). That’s setting aside that exit polls are highly unreliable.
CNN’s showing Romney 59%, Obama 40% with 12% of the vote in. Unless that 12% is in Deliverance country, it doesn’t look good.

Lol, only rural counties are reporting. Chill out.
You answered my question. Going to go eat dinner. If I can.
CNN calls Illinois for Obama with 0% of the vote !!! I dunno. I saw evewn more Romney yard signs today, driving home from work. Romney and Joe Walsh measled all over. No Obama or Duckworth signs. Illinois probably will go blue, but I think I’m stuck with that asshole Walsh.
I can tell you 100% for sure that Walsh is done. He’s the most-dead of IL Repubs.
And Joe Walsh lost. Boom.
YES! 55-45 It’s scary that there are so many willing to vote for an insane whacko who espouses policies contrary to their interests.
Interesting breakdown data from exit polls in Ohio.

It really looks like the GOP is the party of the well-to-do, the rich, and the religious.
With 20% of the vote in, 59% Obama! That would be a lot of votes for Bain to steal.

Looks like the nets just called CT for Murphy.
See ya, Holy Joe.
Did y’all just see Al Sharpton beat up Ken Blackwell on msnbc? Good for him.
Nothing in from NY. With NYC having power and transport problems, it could be a sleeper for Romney with NYC votes way down. Jersey is coming through though. Strange place, New Jersey. I used to go there to Continental Can’s plant in Edison. People seemed tough, unfriendly, unhappy and competent.
Obama romping through Illinois 70-30 just like Nate Silver predicted. Everything is looking like Nate said except VA. He should have taken that $5,000 bet.
Correction, Virginia, mother of Presidents, came home.
