It looks like a few members of Boehner’s caucus had their wings clipped for being too insane. I suppose that is progress. Of course, Walter “Freedom Fries” Jones got screwed for being too liberal. The Democrats might consider reaching out to Mr. Freedom Fries because he has always been a ripe target for a party change and he’s probably feeling pretty pissed at the moment. It’s not that I particularly want more Democrats like Rep. Jones, but we have a steep cliff to climb if we want to retake the House sometime in this decade, and if the Republicans are going to push members out of their caucus, I guess we’ll take them.
More importantly, the Giants-Redskins game has been really entertaining. Manning and RGIII are going to have some epic battles. They are both so talented.
Freedom Fries used to be a Democrat. Maybe it is time for him to come home and start drifting leftward again. It never was really ideological; Jones can adopt any ideology necessary to let him keep “Daddy’s Congressional seat”. It was the personal pique of being gerrymandered out of being able to run for Daddy’s seat because of the requirement to establish a minority-majority district. (Then won by Eva Clayton.)
Yeah .. I imagine he’s a Dixiecrat .. since as you say .. he(and his family) weren’t always GOPers
Dixiecrat background, but not a racist. Populist, for sure. But, like Ron Paul, he’s a libertarian on economics. That’s the part that always blows it for me.
This method was attempted a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away:
“Fear will keep the local systems in line. Fear of this battle station.” -Grand Moff Tarkin
That didn’t work out too well.
Put a screen on the exhaust pipe and you’re good to go…

Was it that, or was it because they pissed Orange Julius off and he’s trying to regain control?
Jones had a dustup with Pelosi in the last days of the Bush presidency.

The funny thing is, I can find no good explanation of Pelosi’s action. Jones was opposed to the Iraq War (from the Ron Paul libertarian POV), and the display he put up was a tribute to Camp Lejeune soldiers (= his district) that never made it home — but by implication a protest of the war. So Pelosi censored Jones because he put up an antiwar display outside his office.
Jones — a former Baptist, now a Catholic — voted for the Iraq war resolution in his “Freedom Fries” days, but later called on Bush to apologize for misinforming congress to secure authorization for the war. He now believes that waging war without an act of congress should be considered a high crime and misdemeanor and grounds for impeachment. He said in 2005: “If we were given misinformation intentionally by people in this administration, to commit the authority to send boys, and in some instances girls, to go into Iraq, that is wrong. Congress must be told the truth.”
In 2009 he said “The Republican party needs to have a face that can be seen and identified with by people of all races. The future of the Republic party lies in being able to relate to the average working family.”
Oh, and by the way — in March 2012 he introduced a resolution to impeach Obama for “the use of offensive military force by a President without prior and clear authorization of an Act of Congress … ” He was referring to Libya.
Somehow I don’t see this guy becoming a Democrat any time soon. He does vote with Democrats, however, more often than almost any other conservative Republican.

He also hangs out a lot with Bruce Fein:

Giants was epic and exhausting. That will go down as one of their disappointing loses.
And I think it will be among many tough battles between the teams over the next ten tears. RGIII is redefining how the game will be played.
And then you’ll complain the party is moving too much to the right?

Justin Elliott, ProPublica: Petraeus gave Afghanistan away to NeoCon Think Tanks
Juan Cole also comments on Bob Woodward’s report that Rupert Murdoch tried to recruit Petraeus for a 2012 Presidential run.
I think Petraeus is best advised to pull his military retirement and go fishing. More likely to become a defense industry lobbyist.
I have never considered Eli Manning a top leverl QB that could carry his team. I consider him a good QB, but not Hall of Fame material. He has been surrounded by a lot of other ‘good’ players and with good coaching and cohesive team play, they have been better than the sum of their parts.
RG111 has the potential to make folks say, “Farve, who?”
RG111 has the potential to do for football what Bobby Orr did for hockey and Bill Russell did for basketball.
Mr Griffin is truly gifted.
That u chief? From Indy?
Anyway I think he could be well beyond Russell and Orr.
Oh. And Eli is remarkably good for a goofball. Great football brain but Griffin plays by different rules.
