Here’s a tough one. What’s the stupidest thing we’ve seen or read in the last 48 hours?

Wayne LaPierre’s thrashing like a landed salmon in his press conference….that was teh stupidest thing for my last 48 hours…
That one wins hands down – and that during what might well be the Golden Era of Stupid.
Boehner scheduling a vote on Plan B and his own caucus refusing to vote to vote.
My second choice was Boehner’s reported starting of the meeting with the Serenity prayer before he reported that he didn’t have the votes.
I find that one amazing more than stupid. It is said that Republicans don’t do irony …
McConnell filibustering McConnell still seems stupider to me.
That silliness from Mitch the Turtle was the winner from an earlier 48-hour cycle.
The entire RW for the last 24 hours in all its many manifestations.
It’s gotta be this little jewel:
“Girls, it’s all your fault he can’t keep it in his pants.”
.
From a comment I made to a friend on G+
Oh, jeez, that was really stupid. A unanimous vote to defend a dubious action like this is what Iowa gets from an all-male Supreme Court.
Could he not stand his ground…?
Despite all the gun nonsense this was the stupidest thing I read today.
That’s a whold lot of stupid. Yet….
McArdle, McArdle is the winner! Yes, let’s “encourage people to gang rush shooters.” McMegan brings an important lesson that toddlers should be taught before attending kindergarten.
Hell, the child is in danger at home from armed invaders, or at the mall from another spree shooter. Maybe mommy and daddy can “encourage” their baby and hurl their infant at the gunman.
God bless McArdle for thinking outside the box.
Don’t know if it falls within 48 hours, but I gotta go with McArdle’s “rush the shooter” suggestion.
Beat me by 16 seconds? [[shakes fist]]
Wayne “AssholeSupreme” LaPierre’s press conference. He managed to play the entire deck of crazy cards, including the NRA as Victim card, More Guns Equal Safer Schools card, and the popular new one, the Mental Health Database card.
This was an insult to the memory of those murdered children, and the fact that he tried to spin it in any other direction is the most stupid, putrid move I’ve heard of.
I don’t believe in hell, but it’s easy for me to imagine LaPierre there, roasting on a spit.
just watched some of his speech; don’t think he’s stupid, I think he’s one sick b***
Um, Boehner’s spox daying that the Speaker was hopeful that the President was “finally ready to get serious” after that stunt the GOP pulled last night.
It’s funny, the NRA and GOP gun-nuts all say we should put more armed guards in every school in America. Who’s gonna pay for that? GOP won’t even pay for more teachers in schools, but they are gonna pay for armed security. Come on man
I think it’s real interesting that certain people enroll their kids in private schools to cause public schools aren’t “safe” and now the NRA recommending armed guards in every school in America!!!! Anyone who thinks more teachers should be armed in schools with little children are nucking futs!
Metal detectors and security guards are nothing new to most urban public schools, so what the NRA wants to do is add more guns to the mix along with having the private schools also have more guns too?
Who’s gonna pay for that indeed. You know who’s on the NRA’s Board of Directors? Grover Norquist.
Yeah, here’s another vote for Wayne LaPierre.
“Guns don’t kill people, imaginary guns kill people.”
You want some stupid?
Cars don’t run over and mangle people. People driving cars run over and mangle people.
In recognition of this complication, we have laws to assure that driver/owners of such potentially lethal automobile hardware (a) regularly demonstrate basic operator proficiency according to state requirements (b) register annually the potentially lethal automobile hardware with the state and (c) buy insurance to handle the case in which the lethal automobile hardware does in fact run over and mangle some person or persons.
But guns have no such restraints.
Let the insurance industry develop policies for gun owners.
Let the insurance industry consider the size and lethality of the arsenal, and bill the gun folks accordingly, monthly.
The stupidest set of actions that I have witnessed recently?
There is an energy hustle group cold-calling people in the NYC area trying to get them to “GET LOWER RATES!!!” by signing up w/them rather than with ConEd or the other giants. Now…maybe it’s basically on the level and maybe it isn’t, I really don’t know. What I do know is that I have been called several times a day for weeks by the people at that number, and 90% of the time no one is there when I pick up. The other 10% of the time it’s people who barely have a grasp of English syntax…mostly native English speakers I think, just really. really stupid. I have made it clear that I am not going to sign up; I have asked them to stop calling and gotten an immediate answer in the affirmative every time and I have put my number on the so-called “Do Not Call” list innumerable times as well. No use. The calls continue.
What a waste of time and energy.
Stupid is as stupid does.
Rachet this up the financial/societal totem pole and what do you get?
Benghazi.
Solomon Bros.
The CIA.
Congress.
Bet on it.
It’s just a matter of degree.
No wonder Obama looks so whipped.
The sheer weight of so much organizational stupidity must depress so intelligent a man on a level I hesitate to consider.
The stupidest thing I’ve seen or read in the last 48 hours?
U.S. society as a
hole…errr, ahhh…whole.Bet on it.
AG
No wonder Obama looks so whipped.
Like dat.
The most depressing image I have seen in decades.
Bet on that as well.
AG
That is a terrible cover.
Yes it is.
I fear it.
AG
When I log in to post on this web site there is an ad for a tactical knife with a mini flashlight. That’ flashlight is pretty damn stupid.
.
You’ve got to see who you’re stabbing don’t you? Or maybe not.
Hard to believe, but even more stupid than Boehner was the family court judge before whom I appeared today. He decided to proceed with the hearing to determine if the respondent would be looking at jail time for his failure to pay child support. Unfortunately, the respondent failed to reappear in court today. He was found willful and sentenced to the maximum jail time despite his absence. A simple warrant would have been appropriate, not a potential rights-violating hearing.
I have not seen this quote anywhere….but, I bet some where out there a winger has claimed “Obama is not leading on the debt crisis”.
Well, my best friend was telling me how she wants to keep in touch with her ex-girlfriend who steals opiates from her employer and manipulates my now sober best friend with threats of suicide.
I can sympathize with my best friend, but the idea that she would maintain contact with this woman is transparently stupid.
Indy214’s comment on tpm thread about LaPierre. CarolsFiance reply is priceless.

Hearts were responsible for 24% of all deaths in the US last year.
I don’t see anyone looking to ban them! It is part of the
Hippopotamus Oath that all doctors take; hearts can’t be taken away!

I believe that’s Hippopotamus’ 2nd Oath your referring to.
Blast from insurance fraud scheme kills neighbor couple, destroys or damages 80 homes.
wow. that is a special category of stupid
The icing on the stupid cake was the email I received from a survivalist claiming the explosion was caused by a government drone firing a Hellfire missile that was targeting a military installation in Indianapolis and went off course.
I’m glad your comment is right next Hippopotamus’ 2nd Oath because laughing is very good for one’s health so I’m doubling my dose- maybe that’s Hippopotamus’ 3rd Oath
I would have said the right-wing freakout over Erik Loomis was the stoopidest thing I’ve seen, but that Wayne LaPierre press conference was really something.
