Richard Cohen, who supported the war in Iraq, blasts John McCain and Chuck Hagel for supporting the war in Iraq. However, he also had this harsh appraisal of Sarah Palin:
It was McCain who chose Sarah Louise Palin out of all the people in the United States of America to be his running mate. With the possible exception of a Kardashian, there was no more unqualified person in the country to be a vice president and, as they say, a heartbeat away from the presidency. For this decision alone, McCain will remain forever on the wrong side of history. Even Fox News has given up on Palin. It appears the woman had absolutely nothing to say.
I don’t think that point can be made enough.
At least a Kardashian would have provided eye-candy…
I guess you missed all those VPILF comments about Palin on the right wing forums. I think someone even made a porn about her with a lookalike.
McCain’s stock was highest in 2000 and been sinking since. Whispers about anger issues and impulsive decisions going back years have only been confirmed in the last decade.
His lone moment of grace seems to have been when he told that old yahoo at a town hall meeting that Obama is in fact not a Muslim. Unfortunately for that probably cost him votes.
there was a Palin look-alike stripper at the RNC in Tampa.
when he followed it up with “and he’s a good man” basically saying that no Muslim could be a good man, that based ended any hope I had for his dignity.
I caught it, it just made about as much sense to me as chubby chasers or folk with foot fetishes.
The title is “Who’s Nailin’ Paylin” (SFW, just Wikipedia).
As you might expect, it is a tour de force. The plot summary at Wiki is, in a word, hilarious.
This one isn’t porn, but still pretty entertaining.
–really funny if one clicks on objects in the room such as window shades, tv, and bridge. Have to go back to see where the rifle fell down from.
my third viewing and not sure I’ve seen all the fun stuff. So many things behind that door. (keep clicking on it)
Have you tried clicking on the red phone?
Got that the first time. Missed the trash can twice.
entertaining indeed!
going long after he has left the earth. The reality of McCain and the media myth about McCain have zero in common. McCain hasn’t been a maverick or a serious politician in years and they are still kiss his ass.
But she did provide great fodder for Tina Fey.
I think every Republican who’s participated in the just-say-no response to the election of Barack Obama is going to look terrible in 20 years.
Which is to say, just about every Republican in the Senate.
I’ll be honest, on the first day when McCain introduced her to the country on the campaign trail, I was worried. She was attractive, poised, and seemed like just what McCain needed: youth and charm and confidence.
But my fears were erased the minute I saw her interview with Katie Couric. I was stunned that Palin was so ill-prepared and defensive. She clearly did not have any idea about what she was supposed to do, and she came off badly.
McCain is a bitter, angry old man. He probably kicks himself every day for bringing Palin into the spotlight, because she helped kill his chances. And he ruined his own credit as a POW by constantly referring to it every time he opened his mouth and it became a joke.
McCain spoiled his own legacy. He has only himself to blame.
He was pandering to the wacko wing of the party and in the process gave it legitimacy.
That helped them in the 2010 elections but in the end also may have sent the GOP the way of the Whigs.
Why should he kick himself for choosing Palin when she briefly made him competitive with Obama? Who else could possibly have done that much to his moribund campaign?
Recorded my first impression in The Maverick Strikes Back? and concluded:
Those few weeks were over long before election day: A Star is Unborn
I was visiting Alaska when Palin’s selection was announced. That was a weird feeling.
Boo, your link just goes back to this page.
I wonder what Cohen was saying about Palin when her sanctification was announced? Wouldn’t be surprised if he was experiencing starbursts, too.
Sorry, fixed.
“it appears [Palin] had absolutely nothing to say.”
Cohen has only now figured that out? Jeebus…
Took him about as long to see the illegal invasion of Iraq was a mistake, I suppose. Great insights there…
I swear I first read the headline of this post as “McCain Ruined His Posterior.”
Which would be especially tragic since the man himself is such an asshole.
well, that also
Does Sen. McCain suffer from a neo-post partum Vietnam POW syndrome of some sort? Is he still stuck in some mental POW hell? Does he believe all wars should be fought to free him from his POW hell? I’m sorry McCain, all the future soldiers and weapons cannot free you from the mental hell you personally endured in that POW camp. Your war was over 40 years ago why are wanting to create more mental hell unto others with more war mongering?
he’s been a kept man since he married Cindy the heiress in 1980
You say that like its a bad thing.
Not a bad thing (his choice) but it looks to me like it fostered intense resentment in him because of his personality and because imo he married her for her $ not for love (maybe he couldn’t tell the difference); What kind of anger and resentment would lead to his calling her the “c” word in public? on some fundamental level he’s coasted through life on his father and his wife. on some level he holds lots of resentment imo.
