NY Times – Bulgaria Implicates Hezbollah in July Attack on Israelis

SOFIA, Bulgaria — The clues to a fatal bomb attack on Israeli vacationers in Bulgaria included a charred tour bus, a decapitated head and a fake driver’s license.

With help from the United States and Israel, investigators here broke the case — and linked it to Hezbollah — using a tip from a secret source and some old-fashioned detective work, tracing the printer that had produced two forged licenses back to Lebanon …

Bulgaria Denies Report It Blamed Hezbollah for Burgas Bombing

SOFIA, Bulgaria (Sofia News Agency) Jan. 17, 2012 – Bulgaria has officially denied a report that it has blamed Lebanon s Hezbollah movement for last year’s terror attack in the Black Sea city of Burgas. The report that Bulgaria had blamed Hezbollah for the Burgas bus bombing was made by the Israeli TV Channel 2 in the aftermath of news that Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov has been on a visit to Israel.

It was claimed that Mladenov presented a report that confirmed Hezbollah’s involvement in the terror attack. However, Bulgarian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Vesela Cherneva said that Mladenov presented no report whatsoever while in Israel.

“Minister Mladenov was indeed in Israel yesterday. A variety of bilateral topics were discussed during his visit. Needless to say the investigation of the terror attack was also mentioned. This is part of our agenda but the results from the investigation are not ready to be announced,” Cherneva told the Bulgarian National Radio.

Cherneva noted that Mladenov discussed with Israeli officials the upcoming events that will mark the 70th anniversary since Bulgaria’s historic rescue of 50 000 Jews from Nazi concentration camps.

Hizbullah: Israel Waging ‘International Campaign’

(Israel National News) – Hizbullah accused Israel of waging an “international campaign” against it after Bulgaria implicated two individuals with links to the Lebanese Shi’ite group in a bomb attack on a bus in the Bulgarian resort of Burgas last July that killed five Israeli tourists and a Bulgarian national.

Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister Nickolay Mladenov warned that Hizbullah’s involvement in the Burgas bombing “will not go without consequences.”

Mladenov told Al Arabiya that the possibility of labeling Hizbullah as a terrorist group has been “on the table” for quite some time, but that the Bulgarian government didn’t want to make any official comments on the issue before receiving tangible evidence.

EU Unlikely to Brand Hizbullah a Terrorist Organization

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry urged the EU to follow Washington’s lead by designating Hizbullah as terrorists in a move that will notably lead to a crackdown on its fund-raising activities.

AFP reported that Britain is among EU member states in favor, but with key countries like France and Italy reluctant to countenance such a move, there is little prospect of achieving the consensus required for a change of policy in the 27-member EU.

Article lists a summary conflating all sorts of terror acts as perpetrated by the Lebanese Hezbollah group:

“Europe likes to forget that in the past few years Hizbullah spread a lot of blood-soaked destabilization across the world. 1983: two truck-bombs killed 241 US marines and 58 French paratroopers; 1984: 18 US citizens were killed in Spain; 1985: the hijacking of TWA flight 847; 1992: 29 people killed at the Israeli Embassy in Buenos Aires; then 85 additional fatalities in 1994 at the Jewish Center in Buenos Aires … and so on we scroll down to the February 14th 2005 massacre, where Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri and other 21 people were killed … the list goes as far as Burgas and is all crowned by their contribution to the Syrian massacres of Bashar Al Assad and by at least 50,000 missiles in their possession”.
