I am not impressed with North Dakota’s new law banning abortion at six weeks. I want a state to ban abortions six weeks before the mother and father even meet each other. You want hardcore? That’s hardcore.

Conservatives are idiots. For whatever reason, they get voted into office, and then they start moving back the clock on social issues 50-100 years. That’s probably the quickest way to lose your job; social issues are really gut issues, particularly the people who have come of age the last 15-20 years or so. No one will even get to the craziness of their economic policies because the social policy is so freakin’ backward.
And they push shit like this so hide from their shitty economic policies.
Exactly. Does anybody, even them, really believe that they care about “protecting life”? It’s all about keeping their religio-fascist base hysterical.
Seems like they put themselves in a trap: So now “murdering human babies” is OK as long as those “babies” are less than 6 years old? Can’t seem to find that in the Good Book.
This made my Friday:
The greatest thing about CPAC this year: the shoe shine:
Meanwhile:
Isn’t it touching how the manacles and the whip are being passed on to the younger generation? Educating the new wave of bigots. And there is big money involved in keeping this going.
They focus too much on the pre-born. I’m starting a group that focuses on the rights of the post-alive (aka the metabolically-challenged).
Why does the state deny us our rights just because we’ve attained a state that is subsequent to living? Does the constitution say ‘We the LIVING people’ or just ‘We the people?’
Life is wasted on the Living.
If Life was so important to the Right to Lifers, shouldn’t they stop harrassing women and start looking for ways to revive those who’ve passed on? they have a Right to Life also…and might appreciate begin brought back, no?
Exactly what conservatives hate about dead people, that sense of entitlement. Following your Saul Alinsky playbook. Whereas your pre-born are perfect little citizens, quiet and perfectly behaved–it’s only after birth that they start screaming for handouts.
Also death is associated in the conservative mind with taxes.
You do know that the dead have the right to vote in the City of Chicago, don’t you?
Pansy. Abortion should be banned from the moment of birth. The mother’s birth.
The I-have-a-right-to-inbreed-with-my-13-year-old-daughter lobby has been pushing really hard for this one. Noted libertarian Rand Paul was one of their earliest champions.
This is going to help? As reported at Salon from a NYTimes report
And becoming more hostile towards women is going to correct that demographic problem?
Wonder how many Texas, Oklahoma, and West Virginia license plates there are in Williston.
Probably plenty. However, the legislature would be homegrown idiots.
Christ, I never thought of this as a completely inevitable consequence of the natural gas boom in ND. The combination of probematic male/female ratios, young man horniness/arrogance, and sudden wealth- yeah, it sounds like a nightmare for women, OK.
seem to be getting more conservative. In SD, where I live, the last election season was not good for Democrats. We did increase our State Senate Democratic members from 5/35 to 7/35, but we really should have gone to 12/35. Same with the House.
The problem is the Democratic brand, and the success of the Republican campaign to brand government as the problem. It’s impossible to propose a tax for anything. Not even schools can be considered as sure-fire tax raise situations. The abortion thing is also a strong loser. You can’t even say “I believe that women should make their own decision”.
We’ll see if the Democrats can get a petition going in ND. ND did elect a woman Democrat senator state-wide. They are not hopeless, but the Republican brand is so strong in the rural areas that I wonder what can overcome it. It’s a given that you are a republican in the rural areas.
