So I thought we needed some summer inspiration above. Sorry it isn’t looking like that for you today, ask. 🙂
Shorts and sandals here again today, and Finny and I are headed out to Florida tomorrow to go see his grammy for a few days. Wish me luck on getting a 3 year old through security with all his accoutrements?
I am really looking forward to having a little break. Got my book loaded up on my iPad, need to pick out a movie for the man to watch for the flight, pick up some good snacks, and we’ll be all set.
What’s everyone else up to this weekend?
Thanks, CG. No – today looks very differently from the shot up top.
Today’s reality:
Snow/sleet/rain in the forecast through tomorrow, but nice weekend ahead.
Stay warm!
I hope you have a nice pellet stove or something to keep you toasty!
Got a wood burning stove and a fireplace, though only use the former early morning and evenings. The rest of the time a small fan heater does the job. Nice and cosy in the cabin.
Brrrrrr!
Enjoy the nice weekend when it arrives (if you’re not entirely snowed/iced in by then).
Yes, looking forward to spring resuming. It has let up this evening, but there is apparently more coming tomorrow – I hope it comes as rain.
Great flog everyone. 🙂
Very pretty! I love seeing the fine hairs covering the buds.
I’m glad you took over hosting the flog.
Those fine hairs reminded me – I stupidly brushed one of Mrs. ID’s cacti about a week ago, while watering other plants. Grrr, I hate when that happens!
I’m also thankful to BobX for assuming Flogging duties. Thanks Bob!
Don’t look now, but I think I’ve wrapped up all my work for the week a few hours early. Time for laundry and packing. 🙂
Safe journey and have a great visit with grammy!
Have a great trip with Finn.
A cold and rainy Fall day here. Oh, wait…
I think you probably have what we had yesterday. We’ve had a considerable cool-down since the first of the week. Better days coming for the weekend, I hear.
Good news. I’ve got the winter jacket on today.
Today’s Reality in ND
Heard today, If we hit April 17th without a 50F daily high it will set a new record, the previous was back in the 1880s…
Didn’t there used to be some sort of yellow orb in the sky during the daylight hours?
Sunday Night
Overcast with snow in the evening, then mostly cloudy with snow.
Low of 27F with a windchill as low as 16F.
Breezy. Winds from the NNE at 15 to 25 mph.
Chance of snow 90% with accumulations up to 9 in. possible.
Yikes! Stay warm and safe!
Can you shoo that back up to Canada? Ack!
Olivia says thanks — it snowed in Ottawa yesterday and the day before.
Ooops! Sorry olivia.
It’s okay. Winnipeg can have it, ha. 😉
Seriously though, it’s mostly melted now. Just a few leftover glaciers to go.
Of course, there is always the prospect of what happens to all the snow once it does finally melt off. I’m guessing that folks in Fargo, Grand Forks, and Valley City are in for a potentially rough flood season. Hang in there.
I’m far enough south to where we’re alternating between days when A/C is required and days when the heat has to be turned on again – something a bit unusual this time of year. Ordinarily we’d have the heat turned off, and would still be just cool enough to refrain from turning on the A/C.
It has been a crazy spring so far.
Yuck. My sympathies to you.
Spring has been a long time coming…
Riverbend broke her 5 1/2 year silence.
She has much there worth reading. Good to know she is alive and well.
What a good day this is – it was only 270 years ago today that Thomas Jefferson was born in Shadwell, Virginia.
Hearing from Riverbend again makes it even more special.
That’s pretty cool.
At the risk of seeming insensitive to those in colder climes, we’ve been enjoying the pool and beach and post-sunset bike rides with Grammy. Brevard zoo is on our list too, but Finn’s favorite is really the beach. Sand castles! Waves! Surf fisherman! Big Air Force planes! Hot dogs and fish tacos! Frozen drinks tonight!
It’s nice to get away, but we are missing daddy and the CBs…
… If you’re far enough north, and that includes the Hudson valley.

Ask, you should have something amazing to see tonight if you don’t have clouds.
Boran2, hope you get to see it.
I’ll be outside looking, but I’m not hopeful – clouds will be building tonight.
Thanks Jim! I wasn’t aware of it. I’ll have to take a glimpse later on.
Alas, thick clouds last night. Woke up in a soup of fog this morning.
Bright spot; it looks like we are done with frosty nights which means that remaining snow melt in the low lands should be fairly quick.

Such a beauty she is!
That’s what I want to be doing!
That’s an unusually (read: non-sprawling) pose for her. 😀
This is her alternate pose — relaxed yet suave (I love the crossed paws).
Cool and fresh breeze, Shorts, slippers/sandals, sun glasses, fishing, and many more! Perfect place! But not the perfect time for now. Looking forward for this!

It’s a beautiful day here in the Hudson Valley. Too bad that I’ll spend most of it inside.
Great shot BobX! Imagine trying to manage that maze of lines and spars out on the open sea!
Thanks Indy, she is a thing of beauty under full sail. Saw her years ago on the harbor when the tall ships came in ’76. Great crew too, always willing to talk and answer questions. I suspect this is one of the best assignments in the Navy.
I’d like a ride on that one.
Would that be called a “windjammer”?
That would be Old Ironsides. Oldest commissioned ship in the world.

It must have been a different tall ship we’d seen under sail in ’76 when they came to Boston, as the Constitution was towed.

That is an amazing photo!
Agree with b2 — it’s beautiful, love the colours.
Thanks both of you.
I love taking pictures of light on ripples; I’m fascinated by the patterns.
And we love viewing them! There’s gold in them thar hills 😉
Agreed!
Here’s a couple more for you.
It’s a great abstract subject.
Ooh, the first one … the snake skin pattern! 😀
Interesting. That’s how I saw it also.
Sadly, I won’t be getting any more shots like that — at least not at that spot. We had 2 1/2 inches of rain in a few hours early Wednesday and the rush of water through the creek has complete scoured that spot.
Giving you reason to explore and find a new spot.
Those are really cool. I need to get out my camera more.
Love all three, trippy, trippy, trippy!!!
(Still very much enjoying the one I have on the wall here!, carried, was it?)
Yep. And after seeing how the big rain we had moved even big rocks in the creeks, it’s easy to see how that odd-rock-out go there.
Looks more like Jan 15 to me
Monday April 15 after last snowstorm
I think I set a record for latest spring skiing date today. Conditions were great with a nicely crusted surface at 25F.
Friday April 18 sunset from x-c ski trail east of farmstead
Those pictures makes me very sad for you. I hope your real spring shows up soon. We had a 30 degree temp drop from the high on Thursday to the high on Friday but fortunately it was from 80° to 50° so no snow for us.
Yeah, folks are getting a bit tired of it, but still sort of ND stoic about it too as we’re somewhat used to extremes in weather.
Also I saw the following on a hand written sign in a rural grocery store window;
“I hope summer comes on a weekend, so I can at least enjoy it.”
And in the lemons to lemonade category… I’ll be doing more x-c skiing which of course is enjoyed by my four-legged partner.
Yeah, this seems like a scene more appropriate for a couple months ago, but it sure is beautiful to look at. One of the things I love about your part of the planet – there really is a stark beauty to the landscape.
So, how are the flood forecasts looking? Any possibility that this might end up being a mild one?
Fargo is building dikes as we speak. And has created 1.5 million sand bags so far, so they’re expecting flooding of some sort. It’s a bit too early to tell how bad it will be.
Weekend Whimsy
Talk about being spitting mad.
Nifty fountain (and sculpture). Do you have a shot of the whole thing?
No, it was amongst a bunch of stuff in a booth at the annual plant sale, wouldn’t have been able to get a clean enough shot. I had no wide angle with me only a big tele.
Now I need to post my giraffe picture from last week here…
Has she grown into a beautiful young lady?
Brevard Zoo 2009
Post what you got!
Sorry this took so long; I haven’t used photobucket for a while…
That’s so awesome, they wouldn’t come near the overlook the day we were there, they were busy running.
I’m sorry they weren’t up close for you; it was so cool to see them at eye level. That is just a wonderful little zoo. I’m looking forward to going back, maybe in the fall.
Classic.
Oops!
AJC was just reflecting my take on all TV so called “news”.
I’ve been wondering if there’s Guiness record for “shortest career”.

Well, no, but I could use a third day to the weekend. We need to cut our grass and finish cleaning – too much (ahem) socializing this weekend. 🙂
Today, not so much. Tomorrow looks to be soggy once more. After last summer, I’m still grateful for all the rain we can get!
Love the little hairs on the tip of that new leaf.
Went for x-c skiing trek this evening just after sundown, 25F, 2 miles round trip, new record for latest ski in ND springtime.
Unfortunate kind of record to set. Hope some green comes your way very soon.
Yikes! Hopefully Spring will arrive soon.
