This is pretty stupid. You have to set the bar pretty low to consider it a victory that the House of Representatives passed a Farm Bill full of agricultural subsidies and no nutrition assistance for hungry kids. I guess the idea is that the rank-and-file Republicans finally obeyed their leadership and did what they were asked to do. The problem is, what they were asked to do was immoral and stupid.

Because, since they apparently never read the book themselves, in the Bible these uber-Christians have been told about by their own ministers, or the ones on TV and radio, when Jesus was asked about the poor, he said something to the effect of, “The poor? What about them? Ah, f*ck ’em! F*CK THE POOR!!!”
Methinks they misunderstand the “Suffer the little children” line.
I’ve been thinking a lot about the “miracle” of the loaves and the fishes and what that story means. It wasn’t magic. Jesus didn’t create food out of thin air. He set an example of sharing. People wanted to be part of the community/communion he was creating. People always carried food on their person when traveling so they all took out their food and shared with each other. Everyone gave of what they had so that each person in the community would have enough.
The miracle is creating community based on respect, care, empathy, and kindness. I wish the Republicans who voted against food assistance, many of whom think America is a Christian nation, actually practiced the lessons that Jesus taught.
They think it’s,”Make the little children suffer.”
That’s pretty obtuse alright. Like here, he doesn’t even seem to notice that he’s telling us this bill will never become law:
Next they’ll pass immigration reform without any pathway to citizenship. Then if they can’t think of anything else they can always repeal ObamaCare again.
political advertisement.
Is the Roll Call reporter an idiot? Sounds like it. Upton Sinclair is being proved right, day after day.
The real question here is….How much smaller will a box of corn flakes get or how much will a quart of milk cost when you suddenly take 80 billion out of the food chain? It’s time for someone to ask a Philly area dairy farmer what gonna happen when 200,000 children can no longer afford to drink their milk or eat their cheese?
shan, I see the same thing you do. There is zero discussion of this fact in the media’s discussion of this issue. It would be, perhaps, a Good Idea for Pelosi, Reid, Obama and other Democratic Party leaders to start making this a regular part of their talking points.
How hard did John Boehner have to work over his caucus to get what should have been a non-controversial vote? Or was it Eric Cantor who did the working over? Or Archer Daniels Midland?
ADM for sure.
TarheelDem made me laugh heartily in sad recognition of the facts. Yep, ADM it is. But not only them.
Shit, a number of GOP Representatives who run big farms voted so that THEY PERSONALLY would receive the massive subsidies in this immoral bill. Democratic Rep. Edwards presented an amendment which would have prevented members of Congress from receiving this financial benefit; the Republicans defeated her amendment.

This is why the White House position is still flailing around.
I just find it odd that Rep. Hueslkamp (R) of Kansas voted against the Farm Bill. Maybe he can see the writing on the wall. But pulling all the demand created by Food Stamp recipients will depress Farm Crop Prices in the long run.
I totally agree of what you are saying 🙂 http://linkapp.me/ILMxG
