CNN really took the cake today with their “government shutdown clock.” Is nothing a fucking game of team sports to these media assholes? Wolf was there, repeatedly asking how much time was left down to the second every few minutes.
All 3 networks are doing that.
That’s even worse. I only heard about Blitzer’s blathering.
What else is there to do?
How about explaining to the public what’s happening and why? Oh, I forgot Walter Cronkite is dead.
Everything is turned into a sports/big-game analogy in American popular culture. It’s the only vehicle by which most Americans can now understand anything. We are a very stupid people.
In any event, the useless corporate media long ago turned all their political “analysis” into team sports analogies. It would be incredible if this was NOT how their reporting of the shutdown proceeded.
And thus has sports become the opiate of the masses.
Nevermind about the poor finally gaining some access to preventive services. What’s the point differential on the Packers-Lions game?
Precisely. The Sports N’ Shopping Channel.
At least, football in Green Bay football is not a fake small business/millionaire big business. Though Walker may be trying…
and folks don’t think that the MSM isn’t pissed that the President wouldn’t go to war with Syria and Iran?
come on, now.
they had all the war graphics ready to run.
Just slap a shutdown graphic on the War Clock and Bingo!
Sometimes terrorists get depressed. Maybe they will give us a candy bar.
I posted this pic on my twitter page when Obama called Boehner to tell him he wasn’t negotiating, and now I’ma post it one more ‘gin..
Obama to Boehner, House Repubs and Tea Party: No More F*** to Give!!!
Well damn! When you’ve lost Trent Lott…..
Trent Lott on Ted Cruz: “Cut His Legs Out From Under Him”
… You’ve lost Strom Thurmond’s chief admirer!
And they’ve lost Erickson:
https://twitter.com/EWErickson/status/384798048557076480
Would General Bobby Lee jus’ give up, Erick? Would Stonewall? Retreat? A clean CR? Jeebus, Bedford Forrest would run you through, gladly!
No fire in the belly, you loser. Drum E. Erickson outta the movement….or better, court martial him for cowardice!
We are all going to overdose on schadenfreude by the time this is over, aren’t we?
@DanaBashCNN
CNN has learned: House GOP moderates who want a clean spending bill working to stage a revolt on the House floor. More on @CNNSitRoom soon
https://twitter.com/DanaBashCNN/status/384798629715668992
Boehner brings it to the floor it will pass. Didn’t I read here that he has 16 supporters in the Republican caucus?
We can haz repeat?
Glum and orange is a bad combination.
The Republican’s coup attempt on Obamacare isn’t it about the Constitution. If the Republicans don’t like Obamacare, start winning elections and stop being economic terrorist.
I sincerely believe we should be using words like “economic terrorist”; “coup attempt”; and “unconstitutional” when dealing with the Republican Congress.
Glum? They are at the point of triumph! The True Believers will not lose heart at the last minute and the Drunken Boner is afraid of them. Another 5 hours, boys, and it’s Total Victory over demonic Big Gub’mint and the illegitimate spineless Obammy. With a refusal to extend the debt ceiling on deck— the fondest “conservative” Armageddon, the Rapture awaits!
Seriously, is Boner actually sober? At 7pm? Any reporting on that? Now that’s something our talking head lice could competently opine on, perhaps go undercover in the House cafeteria/bar…
There is clearly going to be a shutdown, that was always the destiny and goal of the Tea Turds. Boner hasn’t the stomach to confront them, certainly not at this hour of the day—it’s too late in the game for that, to use the required sports metaphor.
The question now is how long the TeaParty shitdown lasts.
I’m astounded that a large minority blames Obama. I mean, the 30% in the flat earth caucus is expected, but even more?
What the hell do people thing would happen if both parties decided to shut down the government on every issue they cared about deeply? Sorry, no government unless we get gun control. Single payer. Real abortion rights.
This is not normal … somehow the Dems need to hammer that home.
The percent of American boobs that blame Obama is likely directly correlated to the percent that watch Fox “news” and have Pope Rushbo permanently tuned in their Monster pick-up…
The media is reporting it as “Democrats and Republicans can’t agree with each others demands without explaining that Democrats’ demand is just to fund continuing normal operations of the government, i.e. clean bill.
They have to portray everything as both sides equivalent.
S&P schadenfreude…http://thehill.com/blogs/on-the-money/economy/325577-sap-new-fiscal-fights-justify-our-downgrade
Really Boehner…really! This is not the comment of a serious person. Boehner was probably already 3 sheets to the wind at this point.
@DavidNakamura
. @Brendan_Buck says Obama call with Boehner lasted 10 min. Boehner “told the president that Obamacare is costing jobs.”
https://twitter.com/DavidNakamura/status/384818081358680064
I hope it will be costing some Republican representatives their jobs.
If anyone wants to see how the other side thinks, go visit “Tea Party Patriots”.
In a month or so I’ll be visiting my Daughters of the Confederacy sister down in FLA and I’ve already got my prescription of Ativan.
Peter King’s useless little rebellion failed – he got 3 ‘moderates’ (himself, Michael Grimm, and Charlie Dent), along with three notjobs (Gohmert, Steven King, and Bachmann).
Fool. Big man with a big mouth and zero fucking game.
When people start thinking of guys like Peter King as a moderate, you know the Republican party is in big trouble.
Some Repub messaging out there that shutdown is only desired by “30 [unnamed] idiots”, not the ever-sensible Repub Party! Main Street Murican Values and all!
Reality is that there may not even be 20 Repubs who would vote for a clean CR to avert shutdown. If therte were a majority of Repubs in favor, where’s Drunken Boner’s problem? Hello, Blathering Blitzer, any “news” reporters out there? Nope, just a Minutes-to-Shutdown clock!
Of course both parties are equally responsible for everything all the time. That’s in the constitution, right? Sure makes those TV “news” jobs a lot easier!
God that’s what I was thinking. Uh can you assholes do some math? I know you have political science and philosophy and English degrees, but surely to get into your Ivy League Schools you needed at least 700’s on your math SAT. 175/217 is way more than a majority. Why aren’t they calling the vote? Oh, they’re all full of shit? Thanks.
Wow. John Boehner really is a freakin joke.
If true, that surprises me. I always got the impression that Boehner likes the President. Could he just have been showboating and went over the top, because,er…., he was in his cups?
Looks like the Dow is now off by 128.57. I wonder when the incoming calls from Wall Street will begin?
The phrase “impenetrable fortress of derpitude” comes to mind.
As Charles P Pierce reminded us the other day, “watch the whole board.”
Those of us old enough and politically engaged long enough, can recall when the national political center stage was consumed with the 1995-1996 government shutdown and the 1999 impeachment of Clinton. During the latter, Gramm Leach Bliley sailed through in the background. That was followed up with in 2000, while our attention was focused on the election, with the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000.
What regressive policies did we get after the 95-96 shutdown? Welfare Reform, cut to capital gains taxes, telecom and energy deregulation. And continued bombing and starving of Iraq.
They’re just sparring over how to divvy the pie up among the “haves” and how much to screw the “have nots.”
Sequels suck, IMHO.
The sleight-of-hand is in the 45-day limit on the continuing resolution. Same fight around Christmas. Kick the can down the road to the President’s Budget in February.
We are in perpetual CR land. And likely permanent sequester-land as well.
So, by golly, let’s get busy and elect enough Democrats to keep the Senate and take back the house, gerrymander or no!!!!
Anybody see this?
http://noticeatrend.blogspot.com/
This just occurred to me. Let’s be clear what is happening. Republicans finally have the government they want. Congress is getting paid. The military and its contractors are getting paid. The criminal justice system is getting paid. It’s just everything else that is shutting down. Let’s see how long this little experiment is satisfactory to the public.
Norquist must be in hog heaven right now.
The justice system and military are not being paid unless their department had reserve funds. Being “essential” means you go to work, but without pay.
Oh I see. That’s their true desire; keep the essential services running without pay.

Hope that the public notices.
So this Williamsburg Accord should lead us to expect a debt default is upcoming to add to the fun.
