It seems some people aren’t real keen on this whole democracy thing. Or maybe they believe that we should follow Egypt’s lead. In any case, Televangelist Rick Joyner apparently can’t wait for the next Presidential election, because … well, I’ll let Mr. Joyner have the floor:
“The balance of powers in the legislative and judicial branches were supposed to balance and keep in check, hold in check, the potential tyranny from the executive branch overstepping their bounds,” Joyner explained. “The people are not always right, it depends on what people they are. And another thing the founders warned about is this thing will only work for a moral and a religious people. You remove morality, you remove the religious influence, and it cannot work.” […]
“That’s why I appeal to the Lord: Don’t let us be totally destroyed, please raise up those who will save us. And as I’ve been telling friends for a long time, no election is going to get the right person in there because the system is so broken.”
Joyner added that the “only hope is a military takeover, martial law.”
“And that the most crucial element of that is who to the martial [sic] is going to be,” he said. “I believe there are noble leaders in our military that love the republic and love everything we stand for. And they could seize the government.”
What? Ted Cruz and his pack of House Republican Teahadis haven’t saved us from “Tyranny” by shutting down the government? Some people are never satisfied I guess. Still, Mr. Joyner, that’s no reason to get down on your knees and beg God – and unnamed members of the US Armed Forces – to come to the rescue just to get rid of one non-white American President. I don’t know you personally Mr. Joyner, but I’d be careful for what you pray/wish/call for if I were you. Military coups don’t usually work out that well, even for the people who initially supported them. Just sayin’ …
The Hitlerite authoritarian sympathies are just below the surface of these militarist “conservatives”.
Note also that for this “conservative” Christianist “it depends on what people they are” for democratic elections to be legitimate. As we have been pointing out for years now.
Really? I’d like to see a citation where Jefferson and other Founding Father Deists said the new country would only work with a religious people.
However, if you really love the Constitution, Reverend, you will call the FBI and confess to treason. I know you won’t believe me when I say you are committing treason so listen to the Heritage Foundation
Heritage Foundation?
sniff
Bunch of RINO’s !!!
General Alexander might be the preacher’s guy — if he has enough data (dirt) to take out anyone that dares challenge him and he actually wants to publicly rule the world.
Psychologist Bob Altemeyer and journalist David Neiwert have been writing about goons like this one forever. We’ll add another to the list of what Altemeyer aptly described as enemies of freedom. But it is a telling video, and gives us an idea of what a lot of those in the Tea Wing of our country really desire. The concept of democratic republics is still recent enough in human history to be very fragile, and that is something we should keep in mind as the next weeks and months unfold.
So their plan to get rid of the fake tyranny, is to create real tyranny.
It would appear that the good reverend doesn’t realize who he’s playing with.
It’s always hard for a fool to imagine that somebody may be a step ahead of him.
It seems that God said No to him.
Meanwhile, this filth is circulating:
Hillary and Benghazi – Graphic Violence and Huge Lie
This is how low they will go.
He’s explicitly calling for the overthrow of the US Government by force and violence. Why isn’t he in Guantanamo? I’ll bet he isn’t even on the no-fly list. Which means he’s pretty much already gotten what he’s yearning for: a fake-Christian fascist state.
If he were a socialist the NSA goons would be on his ass like flypaper.
Why do we need a military coup?
We have an armed populous for the expressed purpose of slaying tyrants
But of course since 9/11 we have a militarized and highly weaponized police force who will whack down any citizen trying to right a wrong by force so maybe he has a point. :).
Given that his background picture is unstable by 15° or so, it’s a safe bet that he’s equally unbalanced.
Sheesh, don’t any of these fools think about optics?
I suspect that the Feds think that Joyner and Judicial Watch’s Klayman (who also apparently called for a coup) are just demented elders and thus harmless.
But it would be nice if they got half the treatment that Occupy Wall Street got for less.
OWS broke the law and suffered the consequences, that was fair. You can’t just piss all over traffic, safety, and property laws and get away with it. If you’d like to remove traffic and safety laws that’s on you, but I don’t want to go down that road. I also don’t think people should be able to throw them out the window just because they want to protest something. Protesting is not some magical talisman that makes the law no longer apply to you, no matter how much people in drum circles think it may be.
Insane ranting isn’t against the law. The right is pretty damn good at dancing right up to the line with ranting but still not crossing it. Also the Tea Party made sure to… get permits, not completely trash the place, stay during allotted time, and actually… obey the law when they were here. Unlike OWS who promptly decided they were above the law.
Let’s also keep in mind that the feds have infiltrated all the right wing groups who are actually threatening violence, and tend to round them up fairly well. Often with vastly more brutality than anything OWS was subjected to.
Sorry but the idea of the state picking on law abiding OWS types and letting law breaking right wing cranks go free is such an utter bullshit lie even Cruz or Palin would be ashamed of it.
Sorry, but explicitly advocating the violent overthrow of the US government is breaking the law – it’s called treason, and it’s a far more serious violation of the law than trespassing or pedestrian interference. And the vast majority of Occupy protesters broke no laws whatsoever – and, more to the point, very few were charged and almost none convicted, anywhere in the country. The police violence that was unleashed against them in dozens of cities was far, far disproportionate to the immediate situation in most cases.
The Occupiers did some great messaging on the issues (99% and 1% is in our vernacular now), but not so much on the rationale behind their tactics. And the issues you cite are legitimate problems, especially with long-term encampments. That said, there’s a long tradition in this country of both protest encampments (the poor have been doing it at least since Hoovervilles) and nonviolent civil disobedience. The thing is, the tactic championed by MLK and Gandhi has lost much of its effectiveness in the US now because police don’t arrest people now – except preemptively, when they’ve not yet done anything that be remotely construed as illegal. They just attack them with overwhelming force. And get away with it, because people with the same attitude you have think that existing or possible future misdemeanor crimes justify any level of violence the state cares to inflict.
I think your priorities are somewhat backward. I’m more concerned these days with law enforcement breaking the law than I am with what protesters, regardless of their politics or tactics, usually do.
Really?OMG! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mokoolapps.churchtemplespuzzles
It’s not strictly relevant, but I love the idea implied here that these guys think it’s called “martial law” because it’s run by a “martial” (like Martial Tito?).
And here I thought perhaps they were hoping for a Martian takeover from out of H.G. Wells.
Also don’t forget after World War II Europe was saved by the Martial [sic] Plan.
Military coup is not the answer in this problem we are facing today. Instead, citizen should become more vigilant on what is happening in our society.
