Cracking the toughest of issues, the foreign ministers of the 5+1 nations are converging on Geneva for a possible break-through in the Iranian nuclear talks. Secretary Kerry abruptly broke-off his Mid-East tour and is on the plane towards Geneva. Same for France’s Fabius, UK’s Hague, Germany’s Westerwelle, EU’s Ashton and Russia’s Lavrov. In Jerusalem, dark clouds and thunder from the Prime Minister’s Office predicting doom and perdition if a nuclear deal is reached.
Mounting Temsions: Netanyahu rejects nuclear deal with Iran
(Ynet News) – Tensions reach boiling point: PM briefly meets Kerry before latter heads to Geneva; says Israel ‘not obliged’ to agreement between Tehran world powers, adds ‘Iranians got everything and paid nothing.
Israel utterly rejects a mooted world powers deal with Iran aimed at ending a long-running row over its nuclear ambitions and will not be bound by such an accord, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Friday. Speaking as headed into a meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry, Netanyahu told reporters that Iran had got “the deal of the century”.
“Israel utterly rejects it and what I am saying is shared by many in the region, whether or not they express that publicly. Israel is not obliged by this agreement and Israel will do everything it needs to do to defend itself and the security of its people.”
Netanyahu was meeting Kerry for the third time in barely 48 hours. The US secretary of state was due to fly immediately afterwards to Geneva where Iran and six world powers are holding negotiations.
My comment – US Confusion In Setting Policy On Syria by Oui on Sept. 13, 2013
Kerry and Lavrov have an excellent working relationship and are devoted to a political solution for the Syria crisis. Since the end of May, efforts of Kerry for diplomacy have been stymied from inside the White House. I suspect the NeoCon influence of National Security adviser Susan Rice as the culprit. Ms Rice has a close relationship with PBO and put sufficient doubt in his mind to take a tough stand on the Assad regime and threaten military action. Obama himself decided to step away from the brink of starting another prolonged war on a Muslim nation.

STEP 1 – Resolve CW issue on Syria
STEP 2 – Arms embargo and a political solution for Syria
STEP 3 – Resolve nuclear issue of Iran with president Rouhani
STEP 4 – Finalize a peace treaty between Israel and PalestineObama made a courageous decision stepping away from 35 years of biased US policy on the Middle East. Angry Arab states Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar plus Turkey and Israel. Praise from Russia, Iran and Iraq (Maliki).

The Peace Train is virtually unstoppable now. And Israel is not the only unhappy partner….

Some of the bold above is mine.
Did you notice this above?
Yeah! How did that boy figure that out? (snark)
Wouldn’t give much credence to Graham Fuller on negotiations in any cold war type conflict resolution.
From within the conflict it is perpetual war. The beauty of the Peace Train is that it is bypassing the usual storylines and hasbara that are based upon an us v. them, win-lose dynamic. The ground is dissolving underneath our feet. A new order is being born in the Middle East. And a new age with a different sensibility is arising, worldwide. Those who recognize the shift to win-win dynamics are surging out ahead. Those who stick to the old paradigms will go under.
And nothing but old dreams and used thoughts need die.
Envy your optimism.
Still recall saying “Wow!” when the Carter brokered Egypt-Israel peace deal was announced.
Perhaps the best reason today for optimism is the war fatigue and related economic malaise in the US.
There are many individual trends now coming together. War fatigue and can’t afford it here at home in the US are major ones. But there are plenty more at play on the ground. I pointed to some trends in my first posts here at the Frog Pond.

Correction: Interview was with former intelligence chief Prince Turki Bin Faisal
I thought his remarks concerning Iran were interesting. No hint of burning of bridges with Iran in his talk. Probably not clear to some (many?) in the KSA how it all shakes out. Nukes or no, KSA will think twice before making Iran a direct foe. Also, Iran has made overtures and maybe doing business makes more sense for the Sheiks.
Now Prince Bandar’s faction is likely something else.
I’m posting a rather long comment about the KSA by bevin from moonofalabama.org. I thought it is a worthwhile look into the Kingdom.
My editorial bolding above.
I apologize if that is too long. And I consider that one comment from a much larger post so fair use.

From the article……
I would add this to what Obama is said to have expressed.. “the president blamed himself for accepting the distorted political prism through which every effort to achieve a settlement in the region was mediated…….and indicated he was going to change that paradigm for sure.”

France foreign policy is purely based on SELF INTEREST. Has always been so in Europe and also in global affairs. Typical is the bombing of Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior in Auckland harbor which set out to protest French nuclear tests in the Pacific. France has huge interest in African states and took it upon themselves to intervene militarily in Mali in order to protect the Niger uranium mines expolited by French nuclear agglomerate Aréva.
The Middle-East with Lebanon and Syria is still part of the French colonial empire of influence. France with Hollande was the last man left standing to intervene in Syria by the US bombing raid.
France wants those Saudi Arabian military contracts awfully bad and will crawl through the sands from Mecca to Riyadh to get the King’s signature.
Netanyahu will fall into a deep depression when he awakens to find his last resort enemy, the ayatollahs of Persia, have returned in grace to the western powers and the huge looming contracts await the BP’s, Exxon, Shell, Halliburton and Bechtel.
In the assassination of Rafic Hariri, France joined Israel and the US to put blame on and frame Assad’s Syria for the massive bombing. The UN investigation has proved otherwise.
