There was a time when people saw that John McCain was a veteran and a former prisoner of war and that he had long-served on the Senate Armed Services Committee, and people afforded him a large degree of respect and deference on military matters and foreign policy. Then it turned out that John McCain was the dumbest man on the planet when it came to military matters and foreign policy. So, no one cares what he has to say about those things anymore.

Forget taking back their critique of the Gettysburg Address, how about taking back their critique of negro emancipation that will “bind the white man in the chains of despotism.”
Heh. Ain’t that the truth.
Though I think people should have found out he was an idiot a lot earlier, like when he was part of the Keating 5. It seems he got the royal treatment for decades after that.
Then it turned out that John McCain was the dumbest man on the planet when it came to military matters and foreign policy.
Among other things. After all, this is the presidential candidate who picked Sarah Palin as his running mate.
On things military, McCain is the living embodiment of the adage, “When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.” I can hardly think of a single conflict, from Kosovo under Bubba to his stance on “Bomb Bomb Bomb Iran” where the ossified old fart’s reflexive reaction has not been to advocate the use of military force.
He should have been put out to pasture years ago, but then again he’s from Arizona, so what else can one expect?
