Jeh Johnson was confirmed as Secretary of Homeland Security by the Senate today. This would be unremarkable except that Jeh (pronounced ‘Jay’) is black, was born on September 11th, and is named after a Liberian tribal chief who saved his grandfather’s life in 1930. This combination of facts should produce enough conspiracy theories that people will forget that Janet Napolitano ever existed. Making matters even worse, Mr. Johnson was nominated by a half-black, Kenyan, Muslim, anti-imperialist socialist from Honolulu whose mother forged his birth certificate, not to mention his long association with angry preachers, unreconstructed Weathermen, and Pakistani students of suspect loyalty.
I only wish Mr. Johnson was married to a Japanese woman and had been confirmed on December 7th, because that would be perfect.
Tim Wise brings it.
Thanks for the link. Tim is quite wonderful.
I love his closing riff, after explaining why white conservatives need a white (and historically inaccurate) iconography of Jesus:
Nuclear radiation is bad.
Megyn Kelly is quite right. The white Jesus conservatives worship has absolutely nothing to do with any historical Jesus and any attempt at scientific or historical “accuracy” is quite beside the point. The same goes for Santa. Beware of Greeks bearing gifts. Only a white man can be a cuddly generous grandfather figure as invented by Coca Cola… Only subversive liberals and anti-imperialists could possibly want to change those iconic symbols of western capitalism and white supremacy. They hate us for our freedoms…
Charles Lindbergh must be barrel-rolling in his grave. The only thing that could make it better is if Jeh Johnson were Jewish.
Not a Japanese woman, no. A Chinese woman, who he helped fake the Chinese lunar landing just last week!!!!!11!!
Trust me on this. I read it on WND.
The landing wasn’t fake. It’s the moon that is fake. Put up there by the Marxist Pope to fool us.
So, more diversity in the highest levels of government is wonderful, and freaking out the conservatives is always good. But is this man a good choice from a liberal point of view? I don’t expect the Secretary of Homeland Security to be passing out candy at an Occupy protest, but is he known for being honest and fair? Does he believe in promoting transparency and peace? What’s the truth behind the conspiracy? Oddly enough, Wikipedia doesn’t seem to have these answers.
“… a half-black, Kenyan, Muslim, anti-imperialist socialist from Honolulu whose mother forged his birth certificate, not to mention his long association with angry preachers, unreconstructed Weathermen, and Pakistani students of suspect loyalty.”
You forgot to mention that he is a communist, therefore atheist. Yes, folks, Obama manages to be – all at the same time – a Muslim, a radical black Christian, and an atheist. I know that may seem like an impossibility, but given that he was able to go back in time and plant birth announcements in the 1961 Honolulu newspapers it’s clear he can do anything.
Seriously, though, this provides another insight into the wingnut mind. “Either with us or against us” is not just a slogan, it is how they think. The wingnut mind thinks it’s group is at the center of the universe, and that every other group is not only at war with them, but is intensely jealous of them. Moreover, apparently because of this all enemies are aligned against the wingnut’s personal group.
Thus, the wingnut believes that feminists are in league with Al Qaeda. Makes sense, after all, since both oppose “freedom” as defined by the wingnut. And of course the wingnut cannot parse the subtle differences between Sikhs, Muslims, Hindus, and black Christians, let alone atheists.
…except speak articulately without a teleprompter.
I’ve been away. Has the US Government started functioning again?
And then there is Jeh Johnson’s record on protecting civil liberties.
Bur if you Want to continue the meme in your post, Liberia is where some of the Nat Turner-led terrorists from 1830 who escaped hanging wound up as part of a resettlement scheme.
And that putative Japanese wife must have had a German Anarchist grandfather during World War I. Not to mention that one side of the family is direct descendants of both Tecumseh and Sitting Bull.
As far as I am concerned the burden of proof is on Donald Trump. Proof of what? Proof that he is human. The whole 9 yards. DNA samples, a thorough MRI/X ray internal survey to identify implants/blood work etc. He jes’ don’t smell right!!! Does he freak out intelligent dogs when he walks into a room? Betcha. He’s not alone, either. The whole Bush family. Henry Kissinger. Exhume Nixon and check him out. Lots more. There is something so off about these people that if they were to walk into any good working class bar dressed in totally appropriate clothes, sporting a day’s growth of beard and a bad haircut (even worse than Trump’s and a lot cheaper) conversation would still stop at the bar as they contemplated the wrongness that had entered the room.
We been invaded!!!

EXCLUSIVE – Sins of the ‘affluenza’ boy’s parents: Millionaire father and mother of teen let off despite killing four in DUI crash have been accused of more than TWENTY crimes and traffic violations
Fred and Tonya Couch have had many brushes with the law from speeding to assault
Mr Couch has been arrested for theft, evading arrest and an alleged assault against his now ex-wife. He paid out over nine driving citation fines
Mrs Couch paid a $500 fine for forcing a driver off the road
Son Ethan Couch, 16, was drunk and high when he plowed into a broken down car, taking four lives and injuring more in June last year
He had faced 20 years behind bars but walked away with 10 years probation last week
This was because State District Judge Jean Boyd agreed his upbringing had given him ‘freedoms’ he couldn’t deal with
Ethan would invite strangers back to the huge Burleson, Texas, where he lived alone, according to a friend
By Will Payne In Fort Worth, Texas and Daniel Bates
The parents of the drunk driving teen controversially spared jail after killing four people have more than 20 criminal and traffic offense claims on their records – but have never served any time in prison, MailOnline can reveal today.
Ethan Couch, 16, was only sentenced to ten years’ probation following June’s horrific car wreck after his defense attorney argued he suffered from a condition called ‘affluenza’ which means he is so spoiled by his mother and father he is not fully responsible for his actions.
Now MailOnline can reveal his parents, millionaire sheet metal manufacturer Fred Couch and ex-wife Tonya have had many brushes with the law themselves.
They have several driving citations on their records and Mr Couch has been arrested for alleged crimes including theft, evading arrest and an alleged assault against Mrs Couch, according to official court documents obtained at the Johnson County Court records office in Cleburne.
But aside from a number of small fines for their motoring offenses and a six-month community supervision order issued to Mrs Couch, neither of them have been punished further.
In fact all of the more serious cases against Mr Couch, going back as far as 1989, have been dismissed.
Charges were dropped in the two theft cases, because Mr Couch paid substantial restitution.

The tragedy here isn’t that this kid is going to a fancy private treatment center, it’s that other kids – mostly of different racial background – aren’t. they go to real jail. Adult jail, mostly. No treatment. And then it’s game over for them.
I just wish rich families like his paid enough damned taxes so there is a nice treatment facility available for any kid who screws up, regardless of money.
That’s the sad part of this case – how the media has made sure the only outrage is that this kid isn’t being punished enough, not that other kids are being destroyed for no reason, lives wasted.
Whenever I read anything about Ethan Couch, I can only think of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSqkdcT25ss
The Morning Plum: The consequences of GOP opposition to Obamacare
By Greg Sargent
December 17 at 9:06 am
As of now, over two dozen states are not opting in to Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion, thanks largely to hostility to the law among GOP governors who are turning down huge sums of federal money that could otherwise go towards expanding coverage to their own constituents. Result: untold numbers risk falling into a “Medicaid gap,” making too much to qualify for traditional Medicaid, yet too little to qualify for subsidies on the exchanges.
We now have a new look at the consequences of this: Millions will likely remain uninsured, and racial and geographic disparities in access to coverage will worsen.
Two new studies released by the Kaiser Family Foundation today illustrate this in new detail. You can read them here and here, and they take a close look at who makes up the population of those who fall into the Medicaid gap. The key findings:

if those poor whites shift their vote even a small amount toward the dems, that could change. Sadly, I’m not holding my breath.
