Today is a major travel day for me, so blogging will be light. I’ve seen a lot of stupid reactions to the State of the Union speech. What’s the stupidest thing you’ve seen?

Has Jonah weighed in on the SOTU yet? Because he’s sure to be a frontrunner in the “most stupid response” category.
Not technically a response to the SOTU, but the GOP rep from Staten Island threatening to throw a reporter off the balcony ON CAMERA has to rank as one of the stupidest things I’ve seen from the “sane” wing of the GOP.

Y’gotta remember…Staten Island is just New Jersey East/Bay Ridge West. All I had to do is look at a still of this guy to know where he’s coming from. Mobbed up for sure. Bad temper, rough guy. Staten Island white ethnic power to a “T.” No surprise. Been there, worked for that.

Flipping around channels, trying to avoid the blame game going on CNN vis-a-vis Atlanta’s Snow-Jam, there was Chuck Todd with 2 guests, opining about why this decade is like the 1970’s when all of America was so negative and depressed, even though the Obama was trying to spin everything positively at SOTU.
Seriously, I don’t watch Todd’s morning show, but is he being paid to carry the right’s water on MSNBC? Heck, Steve Schmidt is a lot more balanced and fair than Chuck Todd ever thought about being. I don’t mind listening to Schmidt;something about Todd just drives me to instant rage.
Yeah, CNN spent their first 10 minutes on the ice storm in the South; then they got to the SOTU; interesting sense of perspective there. The opening frame by the lead anchor: President’s address was a combination of inspirational speech and direct threats to take Executive action. Which will it do: show strength or cement the POTUS’s Congressional opposition?
“President Obama, why did you make top Republican leaders meet on the night of your first inauguration and decide to use scorched-earth rhetoric and every legislative tool possible to completely and absolutely oppose all of your policy initiatives? Why don’t you stop making them do that???”
I found out within the last year that Chuck Todd is related to me. A second or third cousin. They say that counseling will help me work this out.
Eric Zorn, Chicago Tribune: The farce is familiar: NATO 3 trial would be high comedy if the stakes weren’t so high
Not the coverage, btw.
As a Cook County resident I am not happy with the disordered sense of priorities our current DA has. It’s been an ongoing problem.

Politically ambitious States Attorney on the take. The normal situation for a States Attorney in Chicago. Because 31 years of damages for false arrest mean a huge settlement, they are going to fight with every legal argument they have. The people of the city, county, and state are paying a huge penalty in the settlements that have been leveled against city, county, and state government for chronic conditions of false arrest and muscling the conviction through court.
I despise the States Attorney. She’s a fucking crook.
I think A.A. is pursuing this case to curtail and threaten anyone who would even think about opposition to the powers that be. To that end a conviction isn’t neccessary, just lots of publicity.
Much as I hate to defend the GOP, I simply couldn’t believe the number of headlines I saw that were along the lines of “Mother of 3 to Deliver GOP Response.”
That’s bad, and media outlets should know better. But if it was a common thing (I glazed over those headlines, so I didn’t notice one way or the other), I guarantee you it was because the GOP’s advance PR team emphasized it. Headline writers are lazy; it’s not like they, or reporters, go through pols’ bios looking for things like that unless it’s called to their attention.
Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC): At least he kept it dignified
But as an earlier Democrat asked, “Where’s the beef?”
There’s this guy over at the Daily Kos, JesseCW, who says that NSA spying is OK because Clapper and all those guys are white.
What a maroon.
