Sounds like it would be a good idea for me (and, perhaps, you) to upgrade my Apple devices, although it sounds like there is a chance that doing so could be the beginning of a protracted nightmare. Don’t I have many better things to do?

Glad I never use the stuff. The next time I willingly use an apple product will be the first.
Odd. I would never use a PC again.
I agree with you about the Micro$hit software. Try Linux
I’m very happy with Apples.
having tried both I find windows more convenient but Linux can be good
I go both ways – PC desktop and MacBook Pro laptop. Each has its purpose for me.
I use a PC just NOT any form of windows …..
Build your own and run Linux.
It was no big deal for me to upgrade my iPad. I connected the iPad to my laptop, was prompted to do the upgrade, I agreed and it proceeded without problem.
May you have the same experience I did!
I upgraded all my devices without a hitch. Just make sure to do a sync and then “backup now” of your devices in iTunes.
I upgraded my iPhone 4 yesterday with no problem. I’ll have to see if my 1st generation iPad has an upgrade available.
Upgraded 4 devices OTA, no hassle. I wouldn’t consider connecting to iTunes to do the update best practice …
I began as an Apple evangelist but despise them now. Their deeply Orwellian “think different” attitude on the surface and evil authoritarian strong-arming under the hood reminds me of McCain-straight-talker, Ryan-smart guy, Christie-corruption fighter, etc. Every virtue they’ve hookwinked people into believing masks the opposite flaw in their real behavior.
PC sucks but at least there’s no song and dance about it and at least they don’t try to force you to do everything one way – in terms of how they actually work there’s no better example than right-clicking – PC always has what you need in the right-click menu – apple goes out of their way to withhold either the menu itself or the needed contents. And if you’ve ever used iTunes, oh my god, I hate apple like I hate chris christie and paul ryan (I really hate those two – much more than I hate the comedians like palin and limbaugh)
iTunes has to be the single most evil and painfully annoying program EVER created.
plus the upgrade method. much rather buy parts. its always weirded me out how much the left likes apple considering the orwellian tone you noted.
this one went without a hitch for me…it’s a tiny update, only 12 mb on my iPad.
