I spent my day editing, primarily these two pieces, both of which are interesting in their own ways. I finally have my head above water and I have to head out for a meeting tonight. I apologize for the inattention. Did anything happen in my absence?

Apparently people who are cooler than me think that True Detective copped out by not having Cthulu appear at the end and destroy irony or something.
No, you didn’t miss anything.
I read these two articles by Dave Zirin, and I am so angry that I am nearly speechless:
http://www.thenation.com/blog/178642/after-latest-incident-israels-future-fifa-uncertain
http://www.thenation.com/blog/178765/red-line-fifa-israel-violence-and-whats-left-palestinian-soccer
In what world is this acceptable?
It’s the Zionists’ world, we just live in it…
We need to find a way to change that. It’s so awful and so sad that Israel has morphed into something that seems to be so totally against what it stands for.
Israel was born through terrorist acts by Isrealis against the British.
There was no morphing. It’s been that way since day 0.
I decided to stay with fuel oil for heating after being thoroughly confused by any number of experts.
OT: Need help with a paper. What do people think are the most important products of a higher education?
understanding of the universe
In the USA it has the secondary purpose of being a punch list item on one’s c.v.
I thought it (the universe, meaning of) was revealed to be 42 some years back.
The most important thing one learns at a college is how to navigate the paperwork, scheduling, and bureaucracy of a college. If you can survive that, you are well prepared to deal with most work environments.
In no particular order:
While you are there to learn, you also make life-long friends and you need to get a job/gig or start a business/hustle afterward, and you will remember the experience for the rest of your life – it ought to contain good memories.
Thank you!
Two good articles. Well done. Have posted a seed comment on both.
It is truly a righteous thing to see David Sampson in hot water with NY Federal Prosecutors and may he indeed be a target in an expanded investigation. Sweet.
I was kind of shocked when I read that at Steve Benen’s place. Sampson has had so much power and influence that I’m sure he thought he was untouchable.
Sweet, indeed.
Somebody should remind Sampson a sitting President thought he was untouchable, and that man had the FBI under him, not working for the US prosecutor going after him.
It’s David Samson.
Don’t know why such a high percentage of people commenting on the GW Bridge access lane closings and the Port Authority of NY & NJ misspell Samson’s name.
When I was typing my comment, I check the comment I was replying to so I could be sure to get the spelling right. Seemed like a good idea at the time. 🙂
That’s why I only criticize the first comment with an error. OTOH, I’ve been maintaining diaries on the GW Bridge scandal and including related Port Authority news for a few weeks.
My ex brother-in-law a Sampson, just can’t seem to help myself. Sorry WaterGirl.
I try to get names right, but I figure if folks know who you are talking about, it’s all good.
It was 61 degrees here today in central Illinois, and temperatures are expected to reach 66 tomorrow. It was great to have doors and windows open, to finally take the dog for a walk without worry of icy streets, and now it even sounds like spring with kids of all ages playing outside.
Not news for any of you, but definitely cause for celebration here. Spring is coming, even though it will be snowing with a high of 28 on wednesday.
56 here in suburban Chicago but heavy snow predicted for tomorrow. Go figure.
P.S.
I’m finalizing plant nursery orders but Spring seems a million years away. One of the guys I work with pointed out that we should be spreading Spring fertilizers now, but the yards are under three feet of snow.
We arranged a coup and installed gilroy as interim leader. Full election later this month.
fuckin’ Russians.
Nothing changes.
I can’t see the comments at WM except in the sidebar. Any ideas anyone?
Working normally for me – OS X Mavericks & Safari.
Ditto for OS X Mavericks & Chrome.
Not behaving normally in OS X Mavericks & FireFox.
The discus comments are clunky. What browser are you using?
Firefox – maybe I should try it with the dreaded IE and see what happens?
