You have no rights around the police, except the right to be assaulted for any reason or no reason at all. From the Arizona Daily Star. The incident occurred after Wisconson defeated the University of Arizona in the NCAA basketball tournament. A UA student was trying to walk to her car, when a police officer decided to – well read the following:
“These girls had been trying to get to their car. The girl is on her phone not paying attention and this cop came out of nowhere and just leveled her,” said Phoebe Landolt, who shot the video. “After that everyone just started yelling and she started crying.”
Landolt said she and her friends were standing near Park Avenue and University Boulevard when she caught the incident.
The video:
Tuscon police say they are looking into the matter. We all know what that means.
What’s the point of governing Arizona if the cops there can’t demonstrate brute force fascism how they want, when they want?
Papierre, bitte.
Well I guess that this incident could be used by those that want anyone to have access to almost any form of weapon, handgun, assault rifle so on. It clearly demonstrates the Average American in AZ needs to protect themselves from the police.
Lived in Tucson for 15 years and was there when the last so-called “riot” happened following a big U of A game. The cops caused it. Their methods of policing are stupid and based entirely on fear of ordinary citizens.
Yup. TPD was showing off their new riot gear on the local news on Saturday at noon. They were itching to break it in. Here’s another article from a Tucson Weekly writer who was arrested that night.
From looking at the video, I’m going to predict this is the inevitable conclusion we will see on this.
I see a line of officers, with their backs turned toward the direction from which this woman was heading. I am going to suppose that was some sort of “boundary or perimeter” that these those officers were holding, since there is no one between them and this woman. Beyond the officers is the large crowd. Unknowingly, she walked into that perimeter area, toward the backs of that line of officers. This particular officer saw her coming, and reacted to her as potential threat.
I have very little doubt that this will be found to be the proper departmental procedure. He reacted this way because every police procedure is now calibrated to a worst possible scenario. It is the same procedure that was followed by dozens of departments in response to the Occupy crowds. Every crowd of young people, whether it’s a celebratory one or one practicing non-violent civil disobedience, has to be treated as a potential deadly threat.
If you want to be given the respect and deference of the police, you must be a crowd of middle aged, white guys; carrying all manner of guns to demonstrate your second amendment rights. Anything else must be neutralized, using whatever means necessary. After all…..FREEDOM!!!
Kind of dark and needs slow motion. I see a young woman running with a phone and colliding with someone. Maybe that happened, maybe not. Was it on purpose? Honestly, I don’t know. I will say it didn’t seem like a riot as the TV says. It (college kids behavior) seems kind of tame after seeing White Sox and Bears game aftermaths.
