Things are getting weird down in Mississippi. Some guy broke into the nursing home where Sen. Thad Cochran’s wife lives. She has dementia. He took pictures and posted them on his blog. He’s been arrested, and there are pictures of him posing with Cochran’s challenger, state Sen. Chris McDaniel. But McDaniel disputes knowing the man or having anything to do with his skulduggery.
It could be just one overly enthusiastic supporter or it could be some kind of ratfucking operation. Who knows? Politics down south can be very murky.
I smell rat motion lotion.
Guess Cochran doesn’t have to display his “perfect family” as he trumpets his “family values” to win down in Mississippi — the R behind his name is good enough for his bigot base.
However, some baggers apparently differ on what the public has a right to know about Thad’s family. Since it’s been publicly acknowledged since at least 2002 that Rose Cochran was in a nursing care facility it was beyond sleazy and stupid for anyone to invade her privacy. And will likely make it more difficult to get any MS voters to care about Thad’s relationship with his executive assistant.
My compassion for a human being exceeds my disgust with Cochran’s politics. Why should anyone care about Cochran’s relationship with his executive assistant?
Anyone with a shred of humanity – which doesn’t include either the Breitbart article you linked to or a fair number of Cochran’s base, but in a case like this quite a few fundie firebreathers are more practical and compassionate than you might think – wouldn’t expect Cochran to be obligated to keep himself lonely and celibate for over a decade while the shell that was his wife slowly, painfully withers away. Maybe Cochran and his assistant have an “arrangement.” Maybe Cochran’s wife, while she was still lucid, gave her blessing to it. We don’t know, and it’s none of our business.
It takes a sleaze outfit like Breitbart to make a deal out of trips she’s taken that would be relatively ordinary if she were his wife. This is not a “fooling around” or “trophy wife” thing. This is a man who is a widower – only the body his wife was in is still alive. I’m sorry your link led me to give them a page click.
Great comment.
Agreed with your comment until I remember that GOP politicians win by stoking bigotry, misogyny, and hating on the poors. They demand “compassion for me but not thee.”
Sorry you didn’t appreciate my effort to figure out why anyone would be so crass, cruel, and stupid as to invade the privacy of Mrs. Cochran in a nursing home when there has not been any secret about her medical condition. Take you point about the link and in the future will forewarn when a primary source happens to be nutters.
Did Senator Cochran object to the invasion of President Clinton’s private affair? That would be no. He voted on both counts to convict and remove him from office. And as far as we know, Ms. Lewinsky didn’t travel around the world on the public’s dime as Clinton’s “aide.”
Apparently the guy is a tea party/constitutional conservative activist who’s been backing McDaniel.
In the latest update from the Clarion-Ledger, “U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran’s campaign is questioning how Chris McDaniel’s campaign manager, state Sen. Melanie Sojourner, apparently knew about Clayton Kelly’s arrest before news of him allegedly sneaking into Rose Cochran’s nursing home room and taking photos broke.” http://www.clarionledger.com/story/news/local/2014/05/17/cochran-wife-nursing-home-arrest/9211639/
Everything is strange in Mississippi.
