This is Exhibit A on why this country is quickly being turned into an Idiocracy by the GOP:
House Speaker John Boehner said Thursday that he’s “not qualified to debate the science over climate change” while slamming the Obama Administration proposed plans to deal with rising global temperatures.
“Listen, I’m not qualified to debate the science over climate change,” Boehner said. “I am astute to understand that every proposal that has come out of this administration to deal with climate change involves hurting our economy and killing American jobs. That can’t be the prescription for dealing with changes to our climate.”
According to NASA, 97% of scientists agree on climate change being due to human activity.
There is no other way to put it; this is simply inexcusable behavior on Speaker Boehner’s part. He is demonstrating a total lack of moral character, and he should be called on it by all decent people, starting with the political press.
Yeah, because massive flooding, wildfires, and tornadoes are so great for the economy.
What’s so particularly stupid about this position is that a serious effort to address the climate/energy situation would create all kinds of jobs, because there is a shitload of work to do.
It’s like they don’t even believe their own rhetoric about the free market. I wonder why that is…
He is demonstrating a total lack of moral character, and he should be called on it by all decent people, starting with the political press.
You’re kidding, right? The political press’s job isn’t to make The Tan Man’s life uncomfortable. It should be but it isn’t.
No, but you would hope they’d take more interest in the subject of climate change. It’s going to kick their asses, too, just like everyone else’s.
That’s what bugs me about these tepid formulations like “According to NASA, 97% of scientists agree on climate change being due to human activity.” Why according to NASA? Why not just look out the window? This is happening.
Drunken Boner isn’t “qualified to debate the science over climate change” but he also won’t defer to the expertise of our NASA scientists, who led the way in figuring out the cause of the ever-worsening warming of the planet. Strike one.
Further, the “costs” have been drawn out time and again by numbers crunchers under a wide variety of scenarios and are not any sort of crushing burden on an economy. And of course they only increase the longer the idiot humans sit on their hands and deny the nose on their face. And what do you think the economic costs of extreme climate change weather are right now, Boner the Drunk? Strike two.
And, Drunken Boner, “every proposal that comes out of the admin” revolves around burning less CO2, which is the greenhouse gas principally causing the warming. Nor has your worthless, corrupt, in-the-back-pocket-of-BigOil party of criminals identified any alternate proposal(s) for reducing CO2 which you support, so your whole presentation is (as always) nothing but lies and bamboozlement, while enabling ACTUAL economic catastrophe to become irreversible. Strike Three.
You’ll be “out” (cold) later this evening, just like you are every day. But at least Boner was speaking in the morning, before his daily martooni binge rendered him unpresentable to the public.
And as for the “political press”, they are the last institution that will call out our corrupt, bribed Repubs for denying climate change…”leadership”, that’s satirical, right?
Shorter: “I don’ know nuffin’!”
And that would be more grammatical than Boehner saying, “I am astute to understand.”
The moral issue is the most important, but I don’t think Boehner’s qualified to judge the economics of greenhouse gas reduction either. Unless he is capable of understanding it and just pretends he can’t at the behest of his patrons, which would be kind of immoral too, wouldn’t it?
Yes, he’s not a trained economist either, but of course is perfectly happy to take a side in the “cost” debate, the Repub side, of course.
This is also somewhat of a slippery slope for Boner, as it raises the question of precisely what public policies this schmoe IS qualified to pass judgment upon…
I don’t doubt that he isn’t qualified to debate climate change. Apparently seeking the advice of those with relevant knowledge is out of the question.
The Idiocracy exists in both parties, Booman. There is more than enough evidence of that just in the rollout to ObamaCare, the ongoing sprawl of VA scandals and the whole Nuland/Ukrainian right wing thing. Idiocracy is endemic to Big Bureaucracy, and Big Gov/PermaGov is dedicatedly non-partisan.
AG
Oh please. You seriously think the fucking ObamaCare rollout is equivalent to sticking your head in the sand on climate change? Really?
Ok, Boehner, you backward asshole, you are not qualified. How about consulting with the most qualified?
National Academies of Science
National Science Foundation
NOAA
NASA
What, behave like a reasonable person? Let alone like a (purported) Speaker of the House?
That’s not Leadrship!
No need to waste all those extra words. Boehner should have stopped right here:
“Listen, I’m not qualified…”
And for once we would have been in perfect agreement!
