Oh, for Christ’s sake:
The conservative cable-news family is about to get a new member. On Thursday, Newsmax Media Inc. announced that it will kick off its new network next month, Newsmax TV, following a recent distribution deal with DirecTV.
The mid-June soft launch, as described by CEO Christopher Ruddy, is expected to reach more than 20 million DirecTV subscribers, and hopes to build off of that launch to reach 40 percent of homes with cable or satellite by the end of the year. The channel will aim to attract the “Baby Boomers” generation.
“Newsmax was born online and as the lines between TV and the web blur, we will attract a growing audience that doesn’t differentiate between the two,” Ruddy said in a statement. “As a result, we are also well positioned to maximize the opportunities provided by ‘TV Everywhere’ platforms to reach tens of millions of Americans.”
The new network will initially feature nine hours of original programming, and move to 18 hours by the end of the year.
In case you are not aware, Newsmax is a wholly fraudulent enterprise that routinely fleeces its own readership through quackery, gold-buggery, and any other scheme they can think of to separate old folks from their money.
I can guarantee you that DirecTV will have quick reason to regret doing business with this outfit. Never mind that Newsmax’s “original programming” will be about as edifying as discussing the French Revolution with Ted Nugent and Donald Trump, the real concern is that swindling is Newmax’s business model. And if they’ve grown rich enough to launch a cable channel, I’d say they’ve gotten pretty good at their swindling.
Well, this is one baby-boomer who has DirecTV that won’t be watching.
I don’t expect this to be a success, but I half-wish it would be. Obviously Fox isn’t batshit crazy enough for inspire concern among most Villagers, even though it’s obviously a malignant tumor on our body politic. Maybe if Newsmax TV were to nick most of Fox’s audience with an even crazier worldview, the Village would pay a little attention.
So much for “the Liberal Media”.
My hunch is that they are not really expecting to attract new viewers, nor will they. Rather, this will be just one more way of fleecing the dear, captive lambs that are so devoted to the cause.
Well it would be direct competition for Fox viewership numbers. Would be entertaining to watch Megan Kelly go after it the same way she went after Joe Scarborough.
Since most Fox viewers are likely also Blaze watchers they are already primed to be ripped off. It’s not like Newsmax is going to gain any viewership from the sane, they’ll only divide Fox’s pie. Oh, mmm, yippee Fox will start to look like the sane network, but will they fact check Newsmax on the air?
Right-wing “news” organs seem to be like the mega-churches; never too many to fill the demand and all the collection plates get filled.
Good thing there’s some around to keep tabs on these operations as I thought Newsmax had shriveled up and gone the way of Talon and Drudge. And not:
I like the phrase gold-buggery. Will Newsmax run a Playboy Channel?
Noted that they didn’t say they would be doing nine hours of original daily programming. With their audience they can run the same nine hours day after day and their target audience won’t get tired of it. They could run nine hours of commercials dressed up to look like news and their target market would lap it up. Slap a new date logo on the screen and their audience couldn’t tell you whether they saw it the day before or not. In the final analysis, this might be the most honest statement Newsmax has ever released.
Does DirecTV even give a crap as long as NewsMax’s check clears each month?
HateTV is a growth industry for a ghettoized white tribal audience. Money to be made, captive audience to be fleeced
