All eyes should be on Albany where the Working Families Party is gearing up to have a vote on who to endorse for governor. The word is that Andrew Cuomo has struck a deal, but there is a lot of resistance inside the hall. What’s in the deal? I’m hearing a hike in the minimum wage and an agreement to fight for Democratic control of the state Senate. Earlier, I heard it was about public funding of campaigns.
If these folks were really smart, they’d nominate someone other than Cuomo who would have a shot at coming in second place ahead of the Republicans. That could knock the Republican Party down the ballot in future elections and also cause them to lose control of some county election boards.
It doesn’t look like that is about to happen, though, unfortunately.
Wow. I always vote WFP but if they’ve really given up on public campaign financing for this one I don’t know who I’ll vote for.
What’s the point of endorsing Cuomo after his first-term record? And what happens when Lucy pulls the football away come January, if not before?
Lively debate going on now.
Sounds like Cuomo is pulling it out.
Not really sold on Teachout but still disappointed that WFP endorsed Cuomo 58%-41%.
Is it me, or am I seeing shades of how Obama treats the progressive wing of the party? It will be interesting to see if Cuomo can convince the 3 Democrats in the NY State Senate to go back to being Democrats. (And what he’ll have to promise them to do so.) I live in one of those turncoat districts and I’m not optimistic.
Borrowed from the Clintons.
I think you mean “Independent Democrats”.
And in less than 24 hours Cuomo confirms confirms that 58% of the WFP are suckers and/or idiotes:
Cuomo explains the limits of his W.F.P. alliance.
Are you on Twitter, or following Stoller on FB? Haha! 😉
No. Am I missing anything exceptional?
Not really. It was just funny that you posted the same link that Stoller did at close to the same time. His point being yours of course. That WFP got played like chumps. And a lot of us saw this coming yesterday.
WFP rolls over like good little doggies, will get nothing in return. Cuomo presidential campaign back on track. Time to vomit.
Fingers crossed hoping that investigations into all the sleaze (preferably actionable illegal activities) at the top levels of the Port Authority of NY and NJ takes down both Christie and Cuomo.
It’s too late now. The only alternative to Cuomo will be some deranged racist Republican, like Carl “put the blacks in jail and hose’em down” Paladino.
Not too late to derail his POTUS ambitions. And it would also give the WFP a big black eye along with all the Democratic turncoats in NJ that at some point will have to eat crow. Such go my fantasies in spite of the reality that the 1972 Democratic turncoats were never forced to eat crow when Nixon resigned and never acknowledged that their inaction set it up for the emergence of the Reagan Democrats in 1980.
Thing is he won’t run if Clinton does. And how does this really help him in the primaries? They’d accept it from Clinton, but anyone else? And after his first-term, why would WFP trust/believe him? Glad to see the unions continue to sell out their membership time and again. Maybe that’s why unions have suffered in this country. Leadership is more interested in hob-knobbing the bigwigs.
I’m not sure what Zephyr Teachout will do but she certainly is an interesting new figure NY State politics.
