BooMan asks in the thread below, what’s the stupidest thing you’ve seen all day.
Frankly, I don’t even know where to begin. If you want to know why I don’t blog, it’s because the stupid bested me. I simply couldn’t take the stupid.
I haven’t had TV for a long time -when the country transitioned to digital, my ex and I shrugged because it seemed a waste of money to buy some stupid conversion box- and so I’ve grown unused to its influence. When I was on tour, I had a hotel room to myself and found myself clicking through the channels. It was awful. It hurt my brain. The shows (even the so-called “good” programs) were nothing but facile, shallow fables with stale plots that led to conclusions even a mongoloid baboon could foresee. The news was just as bad, no matter what channel I watched. And the ads… the puerile demands of shrieking changeling babies that never ever stop.
Not that the Internet is some sort of oasis. If anything, there’s even more stupid here in the Great Cyber Wasteland, where “social” means the exact opposite of its dictionary definition, and everybody -including people like me- get to flaunt their opinions. You know what they say about opinions and assholes, right? We all have at least one.
None of the above, by the way, mentions the fact that I live in PENNSYLVANIA which in some ways rivals Mississippi in terms of stupidity. Right now we’re watching a fucking ridiculous porn scandal play out in our Supreme Court, revealing a rank and juvenile political rivalry on the state’s highest bench. Meanwhile the legislature passes blatantly unconstitutional laws regarding free speech, wasting taxpayer dollars on a law that is sure to be struck down. Turning to Philadelphia, the dismantling of the school district continues apace, as the very people responsible for the crisis pretend it’s teachers benefits and not disastrous state-level cuts to education (on top of decades of discrimination against the city) that are to blame. The School Reform Commission, by the way, is run by people SO FUCKING DUMB they get caught on video yelling at children* AND busing in paid counter-protestors.
The stupidest thing I’ve seen all day? F*cked if i know. So here’s a little music…

I had no idea, when I was transferred, that I’d be living in Pennsyltucky instead of Pennsylvania.
where are you located in the stumbling clusterfuck of a commonwealth?
Well, I’m going to throw this one in here, because it was both stupid and I think uncharacteristic. I don’t make a point to watch Rachel Maddow but when I do her commentary is usually pretty intelligent. Last night, however, I thought I had tuned into a parody of CNN. Accompanied by droning, uninformative commentary about Ebola, we are shown a photo of a guy in personal protective equipment; then what appears to be a not-very-good black and white selfie, apparently of the doctor in New York; then a generic shot of an ambulance on a wet street; followed by a generic shot of what I assumed was New York City; and then the whole assemblage repeated, again and again and again. For the second time this week (the first was her fawning coverage of the plutocrat Ben Bradlee), Rachel made me decide it would be better to go to bed early.
