Well, this Roll Call piece is classic.
Rahm Emanuel isn’t longing for a return to Washington anytime soon.
CQ Roll Call spotted the Chicago mayor and former chief of staff to President Barack Obama after he cleared security at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Thursday.
Does he miss being at the White House?
“No fucking way,” Emanuel, known for colorful language, told CQ Roll Call.
How about being in Congress?
“No fucking way,” Emanuel repeated.
This reporter wondered aloud to the one-time member of House Democratic leadership if Washington would be less dysfunctional if he was around. Emanuel didn’t take the bait and threw cold water on the idea, but he noted that everybody now says things have become dysfunctional.
CQ Roll Call asked Emanuel a final question about what he was doing back.
“Money,” he said, as he walked into the West Wing.
I don’t have much to add to this. It does hold to stereotypes about Rahm though, doesn’t it?
Name me a big city mayor with access who doesn’t/wouldn’t do the same thing….
Cuss like a sailor?
Go a-schnorring to the White House….
I’m not fucking voting for him.
He has been terrible on schools and education.
Fucking terrible.
I don’t have much to add to this. It does hold to stereotypes about Rahm though, doesn’t it?
Every single one!!
Then Roll Call was able to get past the phalanx of CPD officers that citizens generally meet.
There is credible opposition to Rahm in next year’s election. The Chicago Teachers Union and some minority leaders have unified around Jesus “Chuy” Garcia, currently a Chicago alderman. At the moment the election is a four-way race; we will see how it shakes out.
The incumbent mayor always wins in a three way race. How can Rahm lose in a four way? I’ll bet he is secretly funding at least one of those other candidates.
Of course one or both of the other candidates are stalking horses for Rahm. As I understand it, it is the aldermen who turn out the vote. And Rahm has gone out of his way to offend minority communities. Has he also gained the support of urban European ethnic communities with those policies? How deep is his affluent base?
It all depends on whether Rahm is the power, like the Daleys, or just a front for the business class. Does he have a deep base somewhere in the city? I was thinking that his Congressional district was Near North waterfront and then a westward slice across the city between the 2000N and 4000N streets. Anyone know where his old CD was and what part of that was his base.
Garcia is only running because Karen Lewis backed out due to health concerns. I think Rahmbo has pissed off anyone not rich. After all, the rich are the only ones he is concerned about.
his approval in the Black community is down to single digits
in the Latino community – it’s in the teens
But if he can get two black opponents and at least one latino and no white opponent, he will probably win. Chicago racial politics. White voters hate him, but he’s white. At least quasi-white for the more bigoted. Look at how a**holes like Scott walker get elected.
Fioretti is White.
Emphasis on “IF”.
No credible black candidates. I was under the impression that two black candidates had announced. Perhaps they are not credible. You know more about that then me.
Perhaps we will see a reversal of the usual equation, two whites splitting the white vote. I don’t see white city workers supporting Rahm.
No credible Black candidate stepped forth.
Ald. Garcia is credible.
four way race?
who is number 4?
four way race?
who is number 4?
Rahm–like a bad penny that always turns up.
