Because up until today, I didn’t have any money to spare.
Taking care of it today though.
My Chanukah duties preclude further shopping. I actually started shopping back in August.
I was going to write more or less the same thing. Happy Chanukah.
(Sings: “I’m dreaming … of a white … Chanukah”)
Just kidding. How about this?
“Al hanisim, ve-al hapirkon … ” (Traditional Chanukah carol.)
Finished about a month ago. One son needed new tires so we bought them for him and he said that was to be considered Christmaas, anniversary and birthday presents for the year. Got him and his wife a little something anyway.
The other son with 4 kids lives a way away so we visited Thanksgiving weekend and took their presents then.
Wife and I took a nice vacation which we consider our present to each other.
Because I give throughout the year. I consider the theft of Winter’s Solstice to be one of the capstones of Xtian attacks upon humans.
We decided not to exchange this year. No reason, finances are OK, we just decided we weren’t up for it this year.
I love shopping and the holidays, and they aren’t mutually exclusive. I have gotten some great bargains and have shopped for everyone one the list, so unless I see a few odds and ends, I’m finished.
Our family on my mother’s side will be coming to Ohio from West Virginia for the weekend, and tomorrow will be our Christmas with them. My son drives up from Charlotte Sunday and we’ll have him home for the week. I can hardly wait!
So today is Lasagna Day. I went to the grocery early and have the sauce cooking. It takes about five to seven hours to simmer to perfection and then it gets baked with the lasagna noodles and cheese. I make the sauce with ground Italian sausage, ground round beef, pepperoni, garlic, onions, and all the right seasonings. It is so yum!
So Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from our house!
Bah.
Humbug.
because I’m fucking broke. And I need to pay $1200 to have my dead tree removed before it falls over and kills someone.
I have just a couple friends that I exchange gifts with so I will be shopping, maybe today. I should get something symbolic for my sisters. The niece and nephews get cash, they’re the only ones in the family broker than me.
What kind of tree?
I ask, because sometimes woodworkers will take out a tree if you give them the wood. Normally it’d have to be oak, cedar, a fruit tree or walnut.
if you’re in a forested area you might find handy-persons who will take it out for much less. the high cost of tree removal include insurance- necessary because it’s dangerous-, but there are ppl who know how to take down trees without hurting themselves and your structures and will just charge an hourly rate if woodworker suggestion doesn’t work out
OT — OT — but speaking of Cuba:
“This is a wonderful first step, but we would like to see the embargo ended,” said Devry Boughner Vorwerk, a vice president of corporate affairs for Cargill.

Season’s greetings, Republicans.
Winter Solstice-6:03 PM Sunday, 12/21/14.
Focus on the real thing.
Please.
My whole take on all official holidays?
“Don’t tell me when to be happy.”
The whole holiday scam is nothing but a monstrous…and monstrously effective…control system. Homie don’t play that game.
Neither did William Burroughs. (From “The Mayan Caper,” Chapter VII of his fictional book “The Soft Machine.”regarding how he time-traveled back into Mayan times to learn how they controlled their workers.)
Hmmmm…
“…the continuous music like a shrill insect frequency.”
HMMMMMmmmm…!!!
Good thing they didn’t have media. They’d never have lost.
Merry Christmas.
Time to spend, spend, spend!!!
WTFU.
AG
It’s end of term. I have 70 finals to grade. Shopping will have to wait.
Paying down one’s debt instead of increasing it is almost an act of political and social protest these days; and arguably as uncommon.
ok, OT perhaps, but who needs shopping when we have Obama destroying his lame duckness before our very eyes
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/obama-calls-on-only-women-reporters
LOL! I hadn’t noticed they were all women, but well played, Obama. I bet all the bigfoot boys expecting their usual catering to have got their panties in major wads right now.
Maybe, as one or two commenters at your link noted, that’s why all the questions were substantive.
Some wicked funny comments there.
yes!!! and the stupid questions that they wanted to ask – new year’s resolutions, smoking a cigar?
Because I don’t give a shit. And at age almost-66 I have constructed a life that doesn’t require thundering along with the consumerist herd.
“And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled ’till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.”
Even though I’m an atheist, I still enjoy… indeed I love Christmas. Humanity needs a redeemer. To wish for such a thing is to wish for the fulfillment of all that progressives want too: Peace on Earth, Goodwill toward to all men and women.
