Here’s a trick question. Who do you think will be more dispirited by a third Mitt Romney campaign for the presidency? You, who will have to read about it? Or the bloggers and reporters, who will have to write about it?
This question also applies, to differing degrees, to Jeb Bush and Hillary Clinton.
You forgot a third group: the rabid republican base, which will find the choice of Mitt (and for that matter Jeb!) revolting.
As for myself, I will find it highly entertaining. Unless of course, the MittBot 3.0 manages to eke out a win.
as with Hillary Clinton, the most dispirited will be the voters. Can’t we at least get a fresh shit sandwich?
Seriously. So boring.
The 20th century has been over for 15 years now. So far as I’m concerned they can hope in their delorean and go back to where they came from. Or, check into a senior living community.
Well, we tried fresh in 2008, and 6 yrs later, many of us are rather disappointed. Even a bit cranky about him, in my case.
And just when I thought about checking the Fresh box again w Eliz Warren, or at least to see if we couldn’t encourage her to run, I find out — from a normally barely-informed voter on that 12-person focus group panel — that she spent the first half of her adulthood as a Republican! And further, that she’s been dodgy about disclosing whether she voted for Reagan.
Maybe she would end up closer to Hillary (minus Wall St and the Iraq War) than I would have thought …
There are plenty of people who spent significant parts of their lives as a reoublican. Hell Reagan was a den at first. And a HRC who was in the right place on finance and Iraq is a damn sight better than the HRC we have.
Yes, but now, knowing this, it just opens up some Qs — like, What was it about Nixon and the Republicans mostly supporting/extending the VN War and failing mostly to lead on civil rights and what was it about Watergate and then Reagan and Reaganomics that made you want to support that party? And did you in fact vote for Reagan?
And, what was it finally that caused you to leave the GOP — a single event, or did you just wake up smarter one day?
Other obvious areas I need to know more about from her, before further encouraging any Draft Liz talk, are her stances on FP/nat’l security generally, including CIA abuses and whether she supports fundamental reform of that agency. What are her views on how to stop the rise of ISIS and Al Queda? Or should we continue doing more of the same? I have a feeling she’s going to be disappointingly centrist and status quo on most of these latter Qs.
I propose a new approach: ignore Mitt!
Really, his ego is so enormous that he believes he can actually run again and win…yikes! Let him squander all his money and try to overcome the huge roadblocks in his path. Just don’t cover it. I could easily forget all about Mittens again.
Are the non-Murdoch MOTU’s really clamoring that much for Willard? Christie isn’t good enough for the rest of them?
Still valid.
Trick question! We all lose.
looks like the worst election in my lifetime. A DLC leaning Democrat certain to win. Romney. Jeb Bush.
In all seriousness the loser here is Jeb! – who is behind Romney in Iowa and probably will trail in New Hampshire. It was clear Jeb! was trying to clear the field.
They are going to spend so much money fighting each other for the nomination. That much money is going to attract the other dick…Dick Armey, maybe Tom Delay, or Newt, and whoever wants some of that money. All that dark money…..
is there a list of the world leaders who were in Paris Sunday? I’m not finding it
Look for the list of heads of state who are persecuting journalists. Same guys.
very nice!
In my opinion Romney got the idea to run again from the journalists. See they wrote numerous articles about how Mitt ran such a great campaign. I hope they suffer a lot.
Worst case scenario?
The press is so bored, they latch onto a completely unqualified upstart, outsider, or “maverick” candidate and happily service him or her all the way to victory.
Not dispirited. LMAO Bring him on!
I’m down for a good laugh – bring on the clown show.
I don’t know, Oscar, I keep thinking… they elected Dan Quayle, didn’t they?
And I find out that the infamous NC Dem last-minute GOTV voter shaming letter came from something called the “Victory Book”.
And I keep saying to myself, “Whose?”
Ryan’s stepped aside for Mitt 😉
The 538 crowd have identified the GOP as a five-ring circus.
And I’m wondering how many more legislatures Democrats’ll lose while laughing at the clown car show and being ready for Hillary.
Back to the trick question. The most dispirited beings will be the Romney pets.
was The Victory Book a real dem org?
Losing legislatures us a direct consequence of campaign finance imbalance.
Either that is an excuse for a failure of creativity, or the country is screwed.
It is possible to figure out how to have campaign financiers waste their money, isn’t it? Or are we capitulating to the dollars is destiny argument.
If the latter, the President might as well act his own nuclear option on the Republican Party and announce that he is changing to being a Republican. And his demographics should then reregister and vote in Republican primaries.
Remember that statistic about how out-of-kilter gerrymandering has made both the Congress and legislatures; this nuclear option deals with that.
Its not so much that dollars are destint but dems dont have the money to fight on an even field with the GOP everywhere. Its the imbalance that weights the scakes so badky. Combined with spying and technological advances, I believe we are screwed but I keep at it because I’d rather go down fighting.
Basically I think our future looks like Elysium except with more mind control.
Well the media, $$$ interests and many enablers are certainly trying to put the kibosh on genuine discussion of the issues leading up to a genuine primary.
Definitely the reporters. I don’t have to read articles about Mitt running but they do have to write those horrid pieces. I pity is with them.
OT:My money’s on Pope Francis
…………….
The Republican Party’s war with Pope Francis has finally started
Damon Linker
It looks like 2015 is shaping up to be the year when Catholic conservatives declare war on Pope Francis.
We heard the first rumblings last fall, when the preliminary draft of a statement produced by the extraordinary Synod on the Family inspired New York Times columnist Ross Douthat to warn ominously about the possibility of a schism in the church if the Vatican loosens doctrinal strictures against divorced (and remarried) lay people receiving the sacrament of Communion.
But most Catholic conservatives have held their tongues, working to put a positive spin on papal pronouncements that many of them find increasingly alarming. (Sure the pope’s denunciations of capitalism are galling, but listen to his passionate attacks on abortion! Yes, Francis is far too nice to gays, but he gave such an inspiring speech on the last day of the Synod!)
So far, the tactic has worked — at least until now.
