   Oh, you know it! I’ve had the delight of growing up in Austin. Saw both of ’em (separately) quite a few times.

   I miss Johnny. Sadly, soon, I’ll miss Willie too.

   Later, I’ll miss me.

   Eyewitness tale told…

   Charlie Parker used to hang out in a musicians’ bar called Charlie’s near 52nd St…the street where bebop was popularized in NYC durng the late ’40s/early ’50s. It had a jukebox full of the greatest jazz 45s and 78s of the time, but Bird insisted on playing the 2 or 3 country songs over and over and over again. Finally one of the regulars said “Hey Bird…why do you play that square country shit so much?”

   Bird’s immortal answer?

   “The stories, man!!! The stories!!!”

   Like dat.

   Johnny Cash.

   No frills.

   Just the stories.

   Yeesh.  It’s hard enough to write on any topic when the word well dries up and the empty page glares smugly back at you.  It’s doubly hard when your overall topic is politics in anno damnio 2015 America.

   I guess all you can do is go somewhere totally else, mentally if not literally, and let the wellsprings rise again as they will.
