I don’t know which I find more interesting: that Mitt Romney is filling the Herbert Hoover role of “old hand” in the Republican Party or that the Bush Crime Family wants no part of this and shuns him at every opportunity.
Mitt Romney, who earlier this year decided against a third presidential bid after briefly flirting with a run, will jump back into the national political scene next month when he hosts GOP presidential hopefuls and some of the party’s biggest donors in Utah.
Romney’s 2015 E2 Summit will take place June 11-13 in Deer Valley, a ski resort east of Salt Lake City, according to an invitation obtained Thursday by The Washington Post.
Confirmed speakers from the likely 2016 Republican field include Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.), New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, and Sen. Lindsey Graham (S.C.).
Former Florida governor Jeb Bush, long seen as a Romney rival due to tensions between their camps, was invited but will not attend, per a Romney ally.
This must be just personal animosity and, perhaps, a bit of a family feud, because Romney and Bush are ostensibly from the same business-friendly not-conservative-enough wing of the GOP.
It seems to me that Romney has a lot to offer Jeb and there will be a cost to letting all Romney’s connections and efforts go towards servicing Jeb’s rivals.
I agree with you. Romney came reasonably close to winning. I was surprised at some of the Family members voted for him. OTOH I am happy to see Bush having trouble in his campaign.
Maybe it won’t be Jeb vs Hillary after all. I hope it’s Walker vs Sanders and the country finally gets a choice.
But an all dynasty, senior citizen v. 63 year old sounds like such fun. George P and Chelsea will be like rock stars for the young voters. A vast improvement over monarchies because we get to choose from the two candidates the 1% has selected for us.
Isn’t Jeb just collecting money so there will be enough money power to control the convention & the final nominee after it becomes apparent there will be no third Bush president?
Mittens is just angling to take what in his mind is his rightful place as the leader of the GOP. Although he does seem to overlook the fact that he was nothing more than the hired help to lose the 2012 election and was never one of the players.
Not getting the Jeb! obsession here. He either will or won’t be the chosen one and outsiders have no power to change that. That is unless one of them has pictures of Jeb! with a live boy or dead girl.
Willard is so entitled..
that he’s told to go somewhere and sit down is just unthinkable to him.
But, that’s the Bush Crime Family for you
“It seems to me that Romney has a lot to offer Jeb…”
so that would be a fremeny, or Fe’Romney, with benefits?
In Jebs defense Romney did lose in 2012, he knows moron when he sees one. Remember he has a brother named W.
I suspect no one has investigated Spook Poppy’s role in undermining George Romney’s Presidential bids, especially the one in 1968. Remember Romney was the moderate between conservative Richard Nixon and liberal Nelson Rockefeller. And Ronald Reagan was to the right of Nixon. Charles Percy and Jacob Javits, both considered liberal Republicans, declined to run. And Harold Stassen filled out the field.
Details on that Poppy angle? Never heard of it myself.
fascinating
I think Jeb just doesn’t want to be regarded as just one of the herd. I guess I can’t blame him–it’s a sorry lot. The fact remains that I do see him that way anyway
