I guess Rick Perry wants to get called ‘dumb‘ again or have Donald Trump mention that Perry has already spent two million bucks fighting a criminal indictment:
“[Trump] offers a barking carnival act that can be best described as Trumpism: a toxic mix of demagoguery, mean-spiritedness and nonsense that will lead the Republican Party to perdition if pursued. Let no one be mistaken – Donald Trump’s candidacy is a cancer on conservatism, and it must be clearly diagnosed, excised and discarded.”
Personally, I can’t think of too many people more ill-suited to lecture anyone about toxic demagoguery, mean-spiritedness, and nonsense than Rick Perry. But, hey, I’m sure the press will congratulate the former Texas governor for trying to take Trump down a peg or two.
I’d suggest this effort would be more effective if delivered by someone whose hunting camp isn’t called Niggerhead and who isn’t currently spending a fortune to beat a first-degree felony charge that could easily land him in prison. Also, is Perry actually saner than Trump?
It’s kind of impossible to say.

Was not that well received
I’m afraid to look.
It’s word for word identical to the speech he gave at the forum. He sure doesn’t like to waste his words.
Or all that time he spent practicing on delivering it the first time.
can’t disagree that Perry shouldn’t be lecturing, but that is really well said. He’s got a good writer.
Who knew Perry could pronounce so many big words? And use them appropriately in full sentences that aren’t word salad. (Yeah, I know it was scripted for him, but it’s impressive that he could deliver it.)
Don’t forget the context with which Perry uses resentment in that piece. That’s what the GOP lives off of!
Perry’s languishing down in 1% territory like Jindal and Santorum. And Goopers for which the “context” would matter won’t be able to wrap their heads around all those big words enough to hear the context.
I can’t disagree with Perry’s quote, although I would call Trump’s act Trumpery rather than Trumpism (trumpery: showy but ultimately worthless).
I don’t think Trump is crazy, unless sociopaths are defined to be crazy. He’s spouting crazy ideas, but that’s just his carnival act.
With attacks from folks like Perry and Graham, the Trump 15 minutes will only grow longer. These debates ought to find many viewers.
We are looking at the Chernobyl effects of the unlimited independent funding of candidates that the Citizens-United decision unleashed. Candidates with one sugar-daddy, even if it’s only themselves, going at it with unlimited money and media access.
And then there’s Lindsey Graham, a pathetic throwback to a more (relatively) innocent age of the GOP.
It reminds me of daytime TV game shows of the variety in which contestants compete at pie-throwing or other nonsense skills. And because there is a competition, even the shy ones have get in line to try to out-pie the others.
digby calls it a middle-school food fight, which is what a lot of the TV game shows were modeled on in the mental age of the audience and the required skills. At least when I was the age of current middle schoolers, those game shows used to fascinate me (but television was new).
What is different is that now everything is “supersized” and everything must be touted as “extreme”. Thus Scott Wallker’s declaration of war on Iran, if only. I think that Perry senses that this is becoming the Gotterdamerung of the marketing style of campaigning and he is going to be trapped in the collapse of Valhalla. And to think that it started with the siren song of “I Like Ike”. Or was it the jugs of cider that James Madison passed around at the polling places in his district on election day?
Only one food fight in my junior high (we were a mostly well behaved bunch). It was the first and last time the cafeteria served cherry tomatoes.
The Onion has the last word on this.
Admit it: You People Want to See How Far This Goes, Don’t You?
Perry paraphrase: “Donald Trump is a stupid ignorant obnoxious douchebag. There’s only room for one stupid ignorant obnoxious douchebag in this race and I’ve called ‘shotgun.'”
Oh, tomorrow The Donald may have the best trip to the southern boarder since the international media covered shock and awe in Iraq. Clown show on the rode….WOW.
Darn: Donald Trump will head to the U.S.-Mexico border this week, most likely on Thursday, traveling to Laredo, Texas to tour the border with a group of U.S. border patrol agents.
I thought he’d show he had real cajones by going to Nogales and walking arm-in-arm with Sheriff Arpaio.
Well, it takes on to know one, as the saying goes; it takes a bull shitter to know a bullshitter. A cluster fuck If I’ve ever seen one. It makes me happy.
I find this hilarious. But, I can’t wait for Trump to bring up the criminal indictment of Perry. This is fun times.
