Unbelievable statement as the nuclear strike capability of the Trident passes with a large majority in the Commons …

Asked in Trident debate if she would approve attack that could kill 100,000 people, PM answers with a decisive `yes’
Theresa May has said she would be willing to authorise a nuclear strike that could kill 100,000 people, as the House of Commons voted overwhelming to replace Britain’s Trident programme.
The prime minister confirmed she would be prepared to press the nuclear button if necessary as she opened a debate about whether the UK should spend up to £40bn replacing four submarines that carry nuclear warheads.
After more than five hours of discussion, parliament voted in favour of Trident renewal by a majority of 355 in a motion was backed by almost the entire Conservative party and more than half of Labour MPs.
It was opposed by all Scottish National party MPs, the Lib Dems and Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn, a lifelong unilateralist who spoke out strongly against the plans during the debate.
Other members of Corbyn’s frontbench team, including the shadow defence secretary, Clive Lewis, and the shadow foreign affairs secretary, Emily Thornberry, abstained after claiming in a Guardian article that the government was turning an issue of “national security into a political game”.

However, around 140 of his MPs – including leadership challengers Angela Eagle and Owen Smith voted in favour of renewing Trident, with many highlighting Labour’s historic position in support of a continuous at-sea nuclear deterrent.
Like I have written, glad the Brits are leaving continental Europe and illustrates their common principles with 20th century USA.
It is simpler than you think–it subsidizes their aging nuclear plant and it spends the money at home that NATO obligates.
Easy vote.
i see nothing unbelievable or even worthy of criticism. If the government is in favor of keeping nukes, then she has to say of course she’d use them if necessary.
for unbelievable there’s the Blairites “Labour’s historic position in support “. My memory is that Labour’s historic position is deeply divided and Corbyn is by no means the only lifelong disarmer. But New Labour is staunchly pro-war.
Not meant to be used as a weapon of choice! Theresa May is so outdated
it’s unbelievable … thinking of HRC and gap with young people. Unfit to lead!
Jeremy Corbyn said:
“I am opposed to the use of nuclear weapons. I am opposed to the holding
of nuclear weapons. I want to see a nuclear-free world. I believe it is possible.”
○ How should India respond to Pakistan’s tactical nuclear weapons?
In recent times (21st century) advocates for the use of nukes as tactical weapon in a war of choice: Ariel Sharon (Israel), George Bush (US), Dick Cheney (US), Binyamin Netanyahu (Israel), Kim Jong-un (NK), Avigdor Lieberman (Israel), Sheldon Adelson (private person funds GOP and Netanyahu) and Theresa May (UK)

Standing armies are unaffordable. Saw a piece this morning on how our micro-aggression with nukes in eastern Europe is designed to force that expense on Putin. And failing.

I don’t see that kind of language in her statement, at least not what’s quoted in the Guardian link. She says she’d be willing to use them, in some completely unspecified situation. No British or French or American leader has ever said anything different since they got nukes.
Hey, you all lost your job as I miscalculated the result of an EU referendum … I can still reward you for a job well done to be my supporter until the very end … Of course, did you fund the Tory party during my campaign, I won’t forget. It beholds her majesty the Queen to bestow a knighhood for your achievements for the country, the “United” Kingdom.
