Clinton campaign admits ‘we could have done better’ handling pneumonia news | The Guardian |
Hillary Clinton’s campaign has acknowledged mishandling news of her pneumonia…
“We could have done better yesterday,” wrote Clinton communications director Jennifer Palmieri, after some Democrats began questioning whether the campaign had been fully transparent in its weekend accounts of her health.
“In retrospect, we could have handled it better in providing more information. That’s on us. We regret that,” added press secretary Brian Fallon.
Clinton was filmed losing her footing and being assisted into a waiting van after leaving early from a memorial for 9/11 victims in New York on Sunday.
Initially, campaign aides said she had “overheated”, though Clinton later insisted “I’m feeling great, it’s a beautiful day in New York,” after she left her daughter’s apartment, where she was taken to rest.
But once the video footage emerged – which appeared to support eyewitness accounts of a more serious incident – the campaign issued a short statement from a doctor revealing she was being treated for pneumonia.
Clinton had been diagnosed on Friday but the condition went undisclosed despite the campaign chastising reporters who had questioned bouts of coughing at recent public events.
A follow-up from my earlier diary –
Billmon:
Not mishandled. The it’s just a bit too much sun and too little water and she’s doing fine release would have worked if someone hadn’t taken a video and her security detail had completely shielded her. Get her out there looking fine was intended to compensate for the video. That sort of worked, but the collapse video is powerful. In comes the Doc — with the diagnosis of pneumonia on Friday which was designed to cover all the medical episodes from coughing to the collapse and put all of them in the no big deal category. Oops — the little girl she hugged outside Chelsea’s apartment when she was feeling great.
Now we get the HRC HQs staffers have all been sick for weeks. One carted to the hospital and another possibly admitted to the hospital. (Does HRC even go to her Brooklyn HQs?) Gilding the lily is never a good idea.
Hmm, had not read of the kid.
It only takes 24-48 hrs to culture bacterial sample. Hooo, boy.
No need to read — the kid is in the video of HRC leaving Chelsea’s apartment. Seemed contrived that a random kid on the street would be invited into HRC’s large empty security perimeter.
HRC’s doctor didn’t disclose the test results at in her press release. Probably irrelevant; unlikely that she was contagious, but the optics didn’t end up looking good for her.
And then there was Gerry Ford. He was not portrayed as ill, but as just a stumblebum. Pardoning Nixon was not the best foot forward with a press fresh from Watergate.
With both of Obama’s Attornies General being the last in a long line of elites that protect their own. Exp Holder.
Ford was a goner with that act. People were not so accustomed to seeing the powerful walk at that time.
Handler / unidentified woman is not Huma Abedin, could be a medical assistent / nurse / secret service agent …

Feeling faint on 9/11, monitoring her pulse?
Doesn’t appear to be her personal physician Dr. Lisa Bardack.

○ Clinton handler administers neurological test during hasty exit
You need to correct the impression that “Clinton handler administers neurological test during hasty exit.” The photo used to support that is a still from the MSNBC video of HRC during her arrival at the 9/11 ceremony. Chronologically that was well over an hour from the time she felt unwell and it’s clear from viewing the video that no such neuro-test took place at that time.
I’m all in favor of considering all available information about anything, but I strenuously object to promulgating anything that fake or twisted to support a preferred narrative.
Thx! I had seen yr comment and the video which does not corraborate the suggestion of a neurological test. In my latest entry and posts I added the following …
“Comments and articles where the woman handler administers a neurological test are false
as are the forged medical attests circulating on the Internet.”
○ Dr. Bardack and HRC’s ‘Clean Bill of Health’
Okay — didn’t know if you would have seen my comment in the other thread. Also note that I was skeptical of that photo when it was first posted. I regret that I didn’t run further and faster with my skeptcism, but it’s a good lesson in not taking things at apparent face value and check out, to the best of our ability, the validity of what we individually post in our diaries and comments.
A standard that WaPo doesn’t hold itself to. I’m sure you saw it, but for others, b did a good write-up on this in Washington Post – Mocking Conspiracy Theories While Creating Their Own. Seriously WaPo appealed to authority in pitching a speculation that Putin poisoned HRC. At one time crap like that never made it out of the tabloids and next to ETs spotted somewhere.
Good grief — DM is still running with the photo labeled a neuro-exam of HRC after it has been documented that that interpretation is false.
