Hello again painting fans.
This week I will be continuing with the Grand Canyon painting. The photo that I’m using is seen directly below. I’ll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 6×6 inch canvas.
When last seen the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.
Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.
I’ve darkened the blue of the foreground elements. They are now clearly set apart from the distant elements to the rear. The banding of the foreground buttes is now mostly complete. I’ve attempted to mirror the patterns of the photo without getting bogged down in too much detail.
The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.
I’ll have more progress to show you next week. See you then.
Earlier paintings in this series can be seen here.
Open it is.
I hope this series of diaries can remain a safe space for those of us who see the world through somewhat more pragmatic lenses. My perception, correctly or incorrectly, is that it is open season on those of us who don’t fit neatly in some echo chamber somewhere.
I’ll always be here for you. Thanks for your continued support.
Thank you. That means a lot.
I’m really liking how this one is coming along. I wish I had more of an art background sometime, but I like the balance you’re finding to capture the scene, capture enough of the detail, without getting bogged down. It’s a difficult balancing act no doubt. The feeling of three dimensions is popping out – and that is a good thing. Hoping to see good things next week. Your cafe is one of the only reasons I may be logging in for a while.
A photo of an Abraham Lincoln sculpture in Louisville. Taken this past summer.
Hoping to incite some of our photographers to share some of their work once more. Never hurts to try.
I’ll share some more of what I photographed at a couple of cities I spent time in this summer. Didn’t get a lot of down time to really do the tourist thing as these were professional development trips, but nonetheless did find a few moments here and there to take in some sights. Life can’t be all about work. In Chicago, the experience of enjoying kebabs and contemporary reggae music in an outdoor cafe nestled by a beach along Lake Michigan was simply a delight. It is moments like those, as well as spending time with those I love that make all these trips around the sun worthwhile.
By the way I have provided a clue as to what one might expect for the next midweek cafe and lounge. Some facet of the global village will be celebrated. Stay tuned.
Looking forward to it.
No worries. I am finalizing my playlist. In the meantime, do what you can to light up the darkness. You know I will do so as well.
And the new midweek cafe is up. Here it is.
