Time for our latest installment of the Foto Flog. The Pond may not be quite what it used to be (nor should we expect that to be the case), but sometimes it’s nice to have a reminder of what once was, and what might still be possible. I think a couple photography enthusiasts still at least lurk here from time to time, and I hope to incite a few of them (and some new folks) to post some of their photography. This time around, I selected one from Huntington Beach, not far away from the pier. This is always one of our stops whenever we head back to SoCal. If we catch it just right, we get to see some surfers. Afterwards, we hit the shops.
For photo blogging from the earlier series, see this diary by BobX (the last curator of the original Foto Flog series) and work backwards. Please note that with recent changes at Photobucket, which hosted many of our photos, much of our community’s previous work may well have been lost for good. All we can do is move forward and build new memories.
One last thing: You don’t have to have professional quality equipment or be a professional photographer to participate. I’m strictly an amateur hobbyist. I still have my old Canon 35 mm camera, but almost never use that due to lack of dark room, film development costs and whatnot. I use my current Galaxy S6 for photography (at least for the last couple years) – and before that an Android G4. These diaries are intended to be casual and offer a place for fellow photo hobbyists to share their work and converse, in the spirit of the previous series. If you have some work of your own, feel free to share it.
I’ll be back next month with another installment.
May the 4’s be with you, as one of our former regulars might say.
Speaking of streetscapes, here’s a photo I took while in Budapest a few years ago:
Some days you just can’t seem to wake up….
You peer out at the world warily….
Maybe have a good stretch….
Have a snack….
Goof off for a while….
Visit a friend….
Get in some exercise….
Maybe ponder The Meaning Of It All….
We have a cat who looks a lot like this one (and the cat in several of the other photos you shared).
This is Sally, my smallest and currently the only female among four males. Small but intense!
Try the path last taken….
“least!”
Our black cat does that in order to position himself so he can get to the houseplants, which he is convinced he must kill in order to protect us.
LOL — Sally is a menace to houseplants, which means I get to clean up gooey green upchucks frequently.
Indulge in some more Deep Thoughts….
And settle down for a snooze.
I love cats. In my house, every day is Caturday. 🙂
I just discovered, from reading another thread, that you are working to revive the photo diary. I am so happy to see this. I was a lurker in the Cafe, when it was up and running, and I really enjoyed the change of pace it provided from the intensity of the political side of The Pond. As one who has had an interest in photography for a long time, I hope this effort can get some legs and that enough people will have an interest to generate a bit of momentum for it.
I am strictly an amateur when it comes to photography, but it has been one of my cathartic activities over the years which I have embraced to allow my mind to focus a bit on the creative pursuits, and away from so much of the tension and stress that seems to dog all of us now, particularly those of us who are politically engaged.
Look forward to more diaries, and will have to take a look in my photo files and find some things to share here.
Thanks! I’m glad you found this diary. I do the foto flogs once a month, just like Bob X and his predecessor did. Right now I don’t do anything particularly themed – although cat photos are always welcome. Obviously, any photos you ever wish to share are welcome. This isn’t going to have a deviantart vibe – we’re just amateur shutterbugs who want to share our love of a very fun and rewarding hobby. 🙂
Also want to plug boran2’s Painting Palooza diaries, as it’s always fun to watch his process for creating a work of art from start to finish.
And now for something completely different: The not-larch.
The larch. The larch. The larch. Loved that bit from Monty Python.
A bunch of other non-larches (and a path):
