As promised, I ignored politics this morning. My kids finally put together a solid all around soccer game. Last week, they came back from a 3-0 deficit to win 5-4, which was satisfying. This week, they built on a 4-3 half time lead and won 13-3, which was a whole lot more satisfying. Near the end, I was trying without success to figure out some combination that would prevent them from scoring. But they were still executing set plays we worked on in practice three weeks ago. Excellent stuff.
I’m too busy this afternoon to set aside time to write long pieces, but I’d write about Manafort if I did have the time. I have a good piece on him banging around in my head.
Maybe also throw in some of this for the deniers amongst us:

Wow, that’s interesting…
Thanks for the great news on the soccer and family fronts, Martin.
Take the personal refreshment time you need before getting back to the blogging; we’ll be here.
I just got home from a week in Georgia, teaching rug hooking to a group of women. I had limited access to news and being surrounded by Trump supporters, it was just as well.
I’m home again, catching up on the terrifying news that’s happening. Now, once again, I’ll have to wonder whether my health insurance will still be affordable. My husband and I went without insurance for twenty years; neither of us have worked in a career that provided it. And once Obama made it possible for us to afford it, we were ecstatic.
And now we may have just the year ahead for coverage. I feel like we’ve been on a rollercoaster already, but now we won’t cruise into safe platform. We’re going to careen off into a black chasm.
I loathe Trump and all his minions.
I’m so sorry. Can you hang on till Medicare kicks in? It’s made a huge difference for me, even in the relative haven of Massachusetts. Assuming it’s still available, then, of course….
Thanks, J! I’m 59 so we’ll see. I am generally healthy and have managed to stay on the good side of health, but we have family medical histories that concern me. Any serious troubles I’ve had have been dealt with out of pocket. I went through a kidney stone passing without doctor’s help, so I’m pretty tough.
But it’s scary, this bridge time in between. And who knows what kind of Medicare/Medicaid will be around when these jackals get through with them?
It would seem they would be happy to see us either in debtor’s prisons or pauper’s graves.
I hear you. Six more years to cling on somehow — and with no guarantee that the qualifying age will still be 65, not higher, when you finally get there, if Medicare’s even still viable by then, and just one bad break from disaster. That’s downright terrifying to contemplate.
I made it to Social Security, too; managed to hold out till 67 because I’m still working, will have to keep working till I’m 78 to pay off my mortgage, so I needed to get past the penalty phase. SS and Medicare have made the difference between barely scraping by and actually being able to do some long-needed home renovations without going deep into credit card debt. I’m trying to get everything done that needs it while I can still count on that, before the GOP throws SS too on the chopping block.
And I’m relatively well off, compared to so many people who’ll be brutally hurt by those bastards.
When we were spanking team (to the point the mercy rule would kick in), we would go to “Barcelona,” which meant they had to possess but not score. Anyone who shot was subbed out. If we won by more than 6 goals, we actually forfeited the game, so that was really important.
Plus, “Barcelona” sounds better than “Don’t score anymore because the other team sucks.”
Fuck ’em all
Are we just pretending that A PUPPY wasn’t mentioned earlier?
A PUPPY!
Still waiting, panting gently, for PIX!!!
SQUUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can’t remember how to rotate them – sorry!
OMG OMG OMG how frikkin ADORABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you, thank you!
Went to my first pre-K-age soccer game since I can’t remember when; my friends’ kids were playing. It was apparently the best game of the year so far: 5 on 4, co-ed (2 girls were on the team of 5), with no own-goals, one sub-out for a kid who wanted to collect rocks instead, and only one instance of crying.
Aw, he’s got a stuffed toy buddy! Does he miss his mom and littermates or have you already become his new pack?
Also, too: AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW………….
He seems to be making a very smooth transition. Out of his litter of 7, he and a sister were the last remaining to be picked up yesterday, so he had been going through a few days of his siblings heading out with new people. We’ve been keeping him entertained and even took him over to my mom’s for a visit today.
That is a VERY GOOD BOY.
Congrats on the blowout Boo. I recall when I was coaching (10 year olds, so this might not apply) and we got too far ahead, I required that the kids pass the ball at least four times before they could shoot on goal. That usually did the trick.
