Trump is holding immigrant children and families hostage. He’s admitted as much.
This abomination of a presidency needs to end.

This abomination of a presidency needs to end.
I think Josh Marshall summed it up pretty well.

What we’ve seen this weekend is that evil practiced on children, by design, with quotes from senior administration officials floating around saying it’s great was just too much. This created a sort of 10 car pile of contradictory BS answers. It’s awesome. The Democrats made us do it. It’s not happening. And here we are. It is difficult to imagine this policy will survive the week in its current form, given this firestorm. But we should recognize how deeply embedded the need for these actions is in Trumpism. This isn’t a byproduct. Child separation as punishment, on display, was always a feature not a bug.

I’m reminded of what George Orwell said many years ago,
“If you want a vision of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face – forever.”
This is the vision that 40 million people in America seem to prefer. There is no overcoming this, there is no `winning’ this argument. There is no way in the world politics can solve this. Win any particular branch of government, or win all branches, and you will still have 40 million people who are rotten at their very core.

Brane said she also saw officials at the facility scold a group of 5-year-olds for playing around in their cage, telling them to settle down. There are no toys or books.

A month from now, or two months, after the stress mounts, after the fatigue sets in, after numerous conversations using dehumanizing language during after hour beers, imagine how those `officials’ will react when the 5 year olds don’t `settle down’.

. . . requires having a functional conscience to shock.
I deliberately didn’t unmute the volume on the video at that link, but I’ve heard that evil motherfucking border patrol chief speak on the topic before.
Trump, of course just lies that Dem laws made them do it, and it’s Dems’ fault for not changing those laws (that don’t exist) that force the Trumpers to do evil (never mind that Dems currently have no power to pass anything).
But from Sessions to Hucksters to that border patrol chief to the head of the border patrol union, when you hear them mouth their “justifications” that these evil policies are legal and reasonable and necessary, the impression you get is that they really believe this, it’s not just “spin” for the media. So they mouth them with seeming sincerity, seeming to believe they should also be persuasive to normal folks, so they don’t feel much need to euphemize or otherwise disguise what the policy (hostage-taking to deliberately victimize and traumatize families and children, reportedly including some who arrived legally to seek asylum at border crossings) and its goals (“deterrence”) are.
They are evil, conscienceless (i.e., sociopathic) motherfuckers.
Good, though, that that AP reporter (presumably waved on into print by an AP editor) accurately called those cages “cages”. A rare exception of the normally Worse-Than-Useless Corporate Media doing something useful. Seems some of them may actually still possess consciences sensitive to pricking.
