I have a feeling that you’re watching a certain hearing today. Leave your thoughts in the comments.

In awe of Ford’s courage and humbled by her heroism.
Same here.
Yes and yes!
Also similarly negative feelings about the cowardice of the Republicans on the committee!
Until the current avatar of this party is demolished, and a new principled opposition takes its place, it is hard to imagine a more united outlook for our representative government. For these it will always be party (or self) over country!
The downturn is so sharp – it is hard to imagine we had President Obama a few months ago leading this country!
The good ship USA had been undergoing insidious dry rot for decades as a result of the plutocrat-funded “conservative” movement and its poisoning of the minds of the white majority. Paralysis and complete governmental dysfunction had set in by 2010 with Roberts’ Repubs, Citizens United and Boner’s corrupt House majority. Election 2016 was simply the inevitable giving away of the main supporting beam. We cannot reform ourselves.
That Grassley’s Judiciary White Boyz are compelled to scowl in unison while having complete disregard and contempt for Ford is simply cumulative evidence of our breaking up on the reef.
Yes.
This woman is going down in the history books.
Yes, watching the hearings. All in all, given the enormous pressures on her, Dr. Blasey Ford is holding forth very well. Her responses are very straightforward: when she remembers the sequence she says so and when she doesn’t she says so.
I think the prosecutor is using a line of questioning that is rather random and avoiding much discussion of the actual attempted rape instead focusing on distinctly secondary (if not altogether irrelevant) questions like where the lie detector test took place the distance from her house to the area where the party took place.
Frankly, the Republicans Ms. Mitchell have almost nothing to work with. If she can last a little longer, it will be over.
Pretty much bouncing off the rails. Listened to about half of the idiots press conference until I realized my blood pressure was off the rails. Same thing now listening to the skirt they are hiding behind try to prosecute her. Need to turn off.
I had to turn it off as well, as even reading about it raises my blood pressure. Mitchell clearly has nothing to work with and I’m hoping her career is damaged by her decision to take on the role of “female assistant.” (And yikes. Seriously, GOP? Female assistant?)
Fox is reporting that Ford’s testimony was a disaster for the Republicans – you can bet trump is listening.
And a friend wanted to me to pass along this: “This is a good time to remind everyone that Brett Kavanaugh has ruled that polygraphs can be accepted as gospel by employers in making hiring decisions.”
. . . live.
Am finding the ABC live updates feed pretty informative, though. (Reverse chron. order — scroll down to get to start of hearing.)
Listening to Lindsey Graham’s response just now it occurred to me that he’s working on a game plan.
He’s thinking that if the Rep hold onto the Senate and that Trump fires Sessions, he could himself ride up to the WH and get nominated by Trump as AG. He’s been a first defender of Trump’s for months now so Trump trusts him.
But if the Rep lose the Senate, his vote won’t count so much anymore but he could do a bang up job protecting Trump as AG. And he just might be able to get confirmation even with Dems in majority.
His response was too bizarre not to think there’s some kind of Lindsey gaming going on.
Graham may be ingratiating himself with Trump, but he’s definitely pissing off the Dems and shouldn’t count on their votes any more.
If it comes to that, Trump will treat Graham the same way he did Christy; dismissive, with ridicule, before he drops him off in eff you land.
Might be, but we’ve never seen Trump desperate for a protector as much as he will be if Dems manage to take back Congress AND if the Russians butt out of the election.
This to me is one of the biggest subplot questions around the proceedings: why is Graham so personally invested in this? If he’s trying to cling to a GOP majority in the Senate, you’d think he’d be a little more circumspect in his remarks about Dr. Ford and her allegations. Instead, his behavior throughout–petulant faces and angry impatient body language, not just his own remarks–seems almost calculated to alienate more women.
I don’t think this is part of an act. He’s behaving like someone genuinely in fear of an outcome that has him so scared he’s unable to control himself. It can’t be about Kavanagh per se–Graham acts almost as if he’s personally under accusation himself.
What’s eating Lindsay? He’s always been a turd, and histrionics are certainly a known factor with him, but this is beyond previous bounds.
. . . the one about “marching into the threshing blades” or some such? Kinda fun watching the Banana Republicans enact it live.
Banana Republicans! Love it! :o)
Now watching Kavanaugh’s ‘poor me’ spiel.
It has never been more screamingly obvious that the Repugnican program is to break our society irrevocably.
I don’t mean just installation of their operatives in positions of power. I’m talking about the deliberate, systematic, thorough corruption over the long term of the basic requirements for a healthy social body: good faith, respect for truth, and respect for the social good. (Pardon my quaint Enlightenment values.)
Every feature of this continuing Repugnican clusterfµ¢k is so transparent and emblematic in this regard that it would be comical, if it weren’t so awful.
I make my own Brett Kavanaugh prediction: Unless Kavanaugh blurts out on the stand “Hell Yes! I ordered the Code Red!” the Senate Republicans are all going to say “she was credible, but he was credible too. Essentially we are back where we started with unprovable allegations about something that allegedly happened 35 years ago, when he was a teenager. It’s he-said, she-said and we have no proof either way.”
[Aside – and we’re damn well sure we’re not going to get any corroborating evidence either way, because we’re damn sure not ordering an FBI investigation!]
“So, in case of a tie – we confirm Kavanaugh. This hearing is adjourned.” It’s all been a farce from the beginning in which they grudgingly give her a hearing, attempt to poke holes in her testimony and in the end say “in the case of a tie, we vote for Kavanaugh!” Because getting that 5th conservative on the S.Ct. trumps any other consideration.
Right now, Republicans are reeling from the impact of her testimony, but they will all recover their talking points by tomorrow, and nothing will have changed. They are all demon spawn who sold their souls to Satan years ago, and expecting them to “do the right thing” about anything – ever, will be disappointed.
I wait to be proven wrong, but I’m holding my breath.
. . . outcome.
Lindsey Graham foreshadowed exactly that bullshit in the break before Kavanaugh had even said a word. In the statement about feeling “ambushed” by the massive fail that was their attempted ambush of Ford!
Has Bart admitted that he ever met Ford as teens? And what’s his explanation for how she could have (correctly) become aware that Bart’s drinking/hang-out/weight-liftin’ best buds were Judge and this PJ character if she never spent any time together with the trio? How does she know so much about his social circle? Lucky guesses?
I’ve never seen this question asked before! Kavanaugh just testified that while he can’t rule out that they might have attended the same parties, he didn’t know her. And his July 1 calendar entry has him hanging out with both Mark Judge and PJ. So yes, how the hell would she have remembered 35 years later how to manufacture a gathering entirely consistent with his inner social circle?
Of course, none of this matters — he’s going to be confirmed by Republicans no matter what.
Having watched a bit of both testimonies, I’m pretty sure that, just like everything these days, interpretations will split entirely along partisan lines.
The left will think that she is credible and he’s a liar.
The right will think that he is credible and she…well, I don’t think that all of them are going to call her a liar, though many of them will. The rest will say something like “they are both victims, what can you do?” while supporting him.
And…the cold civil war that divides this country will rage on with no resolution.
You want to know what Republicans are like, and why they will probably appoint Kavanaugh even if they privately think he’s guilty:
They think he’s guilty of felonies, but they are going to vote for him anyway, because they’re Republicans and he’s a Republican. They would vote for Satan if he changed his name to “Lightbringer” and ran as a California Republican.
The Senate GOP knows “this is our base.” They just don’t care. So, we vote in Kavanaugh, just like we voted in Judge Thomas – with the added bonus that this will make the “lib-tards” heads explode.
At this point I’m not even sure Satan would need to change his name as long as he had an (R) after it.
Yes, the Repubs are making this into a he-said, she-said, and they’re giving Kavanaugh the final word.
I really hope this ass is rejected- his testimony proves that he has the temperament of a belligerent drunk.
He’s playing the same hand as Clarence Thomas did: fiercely deny the charges and attack the process. Its all just a “televised lynching” for this poor put-upon white man. He strikes me as another nasty Frat boy with an outsized sense of aggrievement, like so many other R. men. It turns my stomach, but his “poor me” schtick might work; it did for Thomas.
In a just world, Kavanaugh’s wife divorces him and three years from now he is found dead with a nearly-empty bottle of whiskey and (what appears to be) a self-inflicted gunshot wound. That’s how I feel.
. . . show me the record of him expressing the same outrage over the stonewalling of Merrick Garland’s nomination — who, in stark contrast to O’Kav, did not stand credibly accused of anything, much less serious sex crimes, but was instead universally recognized as qualified, including by Banana Republicans.
What a dishonest, hypocritical, grandstanding piece of shit!
But then you knew that.
Cry me a river, Lindsey.
Pretty sure this weasel will get confirmed even though he lied to Congress multiple times. Would it do any good for Dr. Ford to take the MD police up on their offer to open an investigation? I naively think it might…set up an impeachment hearing. Can the Dems handle two of those concurrently? Probably not.
Entitled White Males: Go Fuck all y’alls selves.
Fer Chrissake, people!!!
Look at his record.
You do not need any kind of 30-year-old (and thus essentially unprovable) sex crimes to nail him.
He’s a fucking war criminal!!!
AG
FUCK YOU ARTHUR
YOUR HATRED OF WOMEN WAFTS OFF YOU. IT IS AN EXTRAORDINARILY UNPLEASANT ODOR.
FUCK YOU ARTHUR
Congratulations, centristfield and most of the Democratic Party/neocentrist media. Now that Flake has basically guaranteed Kavanaugh’s ascent to the Supreme Court, I think your position of trying to prove him ineligible due to his sexual and drinking past rather than his collaboration with the bipartisan War Machine was brilliant.
Brilliant, I say!!!
Good work.
If I were use your totally stupid argument regarding my own position as a supposed undercover Trump supporter, I might point out how the people who decided to attack Kavanaugh the way they did rather than on the grounds of war crimes were surreptitiously acting in the interests of the forces that support the whole corporate-owned, neoconservative right wing.
But I wouldn’t do that.
Why?
Because it’s not true.
Not entirely, anyway.
More accurately stated?
The most powerful members of the Republican and Democratic parties are also war criminals. What would have been sauce in which to roast Kavanaugh would have also applied to them.
Can’t have that now, can we?
Who’d run the ongoing democracy scam?
Wake the fuck up.
You been had.
From the left, from the right, from the front and…most emphatically…from the rear.
Enjoy.
You’ve earned it.
And…have a nice day.
Later…
AG
P.S. Booman’s final phrase in his most recent post on the Kavanaugh failure?
Here it is:
Yup.
In fact, it might be better said this way:
The breakdown has already begun, aided and abetted by the two entirely corporate/owned, operated, financed and controlled major political parties at least since the Clinton administration if not before.
And here we jolly well are, aren’t we.
Thanks, centristfield.
Great work.
I look forward to your further (totally unconscious) collaboration with the right wing.
Fuck off, you horribly sexist jerk. Forced birth enthusiasts like you are having a jolly great time with this theater.
Let’s linger on your statement from yesterday about “…30-year-old (and thus essentially unprovable) sex crimes…”.
You and the old white male right wing assholes on the Republican Senate caucus are forwarding the same talking points. Moving the goalposts to a criminal standard rather than the fitness to serve standard is very right wing asshole of you.
Kavanaugh has perjured himself constantly in his statements to the Committee over big and small things, easily provable things. He’s unfit for the Court, but you seem to claim that these current character flaws mean nothing.
That’s because you’re an old white male right wing asshole who believes States should be freed to force juvenile victims of incest to carry pregnancies caused by those rapes to term.
And now you’re blaming the Democrats for not doing it right. You think Collins and Murkowski or Flake or any other Senate Republicans would deny their votes to confirm Kavanaugh if the Democrats ran a campaign which concentrated on your obsessions? Please.
Your basic “fuck off” argument is very convincing.
Thank you.
You state:
“Right wing assholes” will use any argument to support their positions.
As will “leftiness wing assholes,” like yourself.
I repeat:
What happened 30 years ago in a “he says/she says”situation is essentially unprovable. Had we then been in the current surveillance state situation in which we now reside…largely due to the Obama administration’s alliance with our lovely intelligence gatherers/torture supporters within the ongoing Deep State power apparatus…perhaps the “truth” (as long as it was in the surveillance gathers’ interests) might appear.
But now?
What happened in the 1980s stays in the 1980s.
Sorry, fool…there simply is no hard evidence pro or con about that horny, adolescent foolishness.
Meanwhile…the evidence is painfully clear that Kavanaugh was part and parcel of the whole “Blood for Oil” war criminality that led to the Abu Ghraib scandal and the subsequent collapse of the entire Iraq War mentality.
Had you fools chosen to attack him on that level…which as I pointed out above would have exposed any number of powerful DemRats to similar attacks and thus simply did not happen…then we might have gotten somewhere.
But NOOOOoooo…
Y’all keep on pounding on the unpoundable.
Like jerking off on a permanently limp dick.
Great work.
Thanks.
AG
P.S. Your ongoing “Fuck off, you horribly sexist jerk” argument is proof positive that you have no idea what you are doing. If you are wondering why the DemRats keep on getting their asses kicked by the RatPubs?
Look in the fucking mirror!!!
Tell us more about your rotten misogynistic values, and your thoroughgoing and desperate desire to move the goalposts and misidentify the problem.
Boys will be boys, eh?
You write:
Tell you more?
Ok, I will.
The “problem”…the problem with the United States of America at the present time…is that misogynistyic fools like Kavanaugh are by and large running the government and the economy. They are not only fools, they are criminals. Their misogyny is largely demonstrated behind closed doors, with only the victims and their fellow misogynists as witnesses. Thus the “He said/she said” nature of attempted prosecutions. But misogyny is only one aspect of the total disdain that they hold for their fellow human beings…male, female, whatever other possibilities might arise within the 7 sexes and all “otherish” races, creeds and cultures. If the “others” are not part of their particular fraternity of controllers, they are potential victims on many levels.
In Kavanaugh’s case there is a huge paper trail of evidence that he was one of a large team of legal and political minds that finessed the culture of torture and imprisonment without proof throughout the Bush II regime and well into the Obama years as well. That is criminality on a massive and provable level, and it should have been the weapon upon which the Dems based their opposition to his nomination.
But they didn’t.
Why?
Because their most powerful leaders are complicit in the crime.
End of story.
It wasn’t a “mistake” that they chose this misogyny tack.
It was self-interest.
Live with it.
AG
Blame the Democrats for Republicans’ perfidity. Pretend there’s not a massive gulf between the Parties. Claim no one can figure out whether Ford or Kavanaugh is telling the truth. Very right wing sexist asshole of you, all around.
Your inferred claim that any Republicans would have denied Kavanaugh their votes if Democrats had emphasized the issue you obsess about here is ludicrous. There is zero chance any Republicans would have voted against Kavanaugh as a result of his service to the war machine.
Party on, leader of the New Confederacy.
You write:
I am not “pretending.” Following is one of my many possible answers. In politics, the old jazz phrase ” ‘Tain’t whatcha do, ‘hits the way ‘atcha do it” stands unchallenged. The RatPublicans are just not as smooth as the DemocRats. And you’ve fallen for it. (Emphases mine.)
The U.S. is now in a permanent war economy. This has been a bipartisan effort, and it is primarily responsible for the rot that is now plainly evident in both the culture and the government.
You been had.
Deal with it.
Your only possible comfort?
You’re not alone.
Not by a long shot.
AG
You’re a supporter of Kavanaugh’s nomination.
Do you know how I know that?
Because you’re blaming the Democrats for not running the campaign you want them to run against his nomination, a campaign which would with great certainty fail to get any Senate Republicans to vote against Kavanaugh.
It is unsurprising that you support Kavanaugh’s nomination. Brett Kavanaugh would do a wonderful job making judicial decisions which support Ron Paul’s policy agenda, including Ron and Rand Paul’s thirsty desire to allow States to force women to carry pregnancies caused by rape to term.
You are either a fool or a hypocritical, political hustler villain, centristfield.
Oh.
Wait a minute!!!
Hypocritical, political hustler villains are fools.
Sorry…
AG
This isn’t even a non-denial denial. Boy, do you have a lot of nothing.
You could clarify your position on women’s choice again as you have before. You wrote here recently that the State of New York should be split and that the more conservative northern part of the State should be freed to force women and girls to carry pregnancies caused by rape to term. Some “progressive” you are.
Fuck off, vanguard of the New Confederacy.
Oh, and this military industrial complex argument you’re claiming?
Barack Obama was the first president since Bill Clinton to work with their Congresses to cut Department of Defense spending. When you consider these budget cuts as a percentage of the GDP instead of the raw numbers, these DoD budget cuts were particularly sharp.
The total amount of defense spending went from $593 billion in 2018 to $643 billion in 2018. It’s projected to go up to $689 billion in 2019.
Quite the propagandistic right wing asshole you’re revealing yourself to be. Always, in all circumstances, you are here working to suppress votes for Democratic Party candidates and issues. You’re a vicious and terrifically dishonest friend of Trump and the morally bankrupt conservative movement.
I am a “friend” of neither side that you reference.
Two-dimensional thinking produces flatland situations.
WTFU.
AG
Let’s cut through a couple of shovelfuls of your horseshit.
You’ve explained your view here that you oppose Roe v. Wade’s establishment of a Federal guarantee for a woman’s right to choose. You’ve then written briefly but graphically about what that would mean for women in those States who chose to force women to carry pregnancies to term.
Taking this position is taking the radical right wing position. It shows an outrageous disregard for the autonomy of women. It’s not The Singular View that cuts a new path. It’s a radical right wing position, just as your view that States should be allowed to secede is the position taken almost exclusively by racists and sexists for nearly two centuries.
This country is about one foolish move away from breaking up anyway, centristfield. It will break if the effort to impeach or otherwise remove Trump is successful, and it will break if he manages to stay because that is his obvious intent.
Just different kinds of breakage.
In fact, the trust between the governed and the government is already pretty well broken. The federal government has lied to the people of the United States since the assassination years, and those lies are now understood quite clearly by anyone with a well functioning brain. The Democrats have lied, the Republicans have lied, the media has cooperated in distributing those lies, and the lies are now coming home to roost. This last parade of liars…the Kavanaugh hearings…is simply another, even easier to see chapter in the ongoing Bipartisan Book Of Lies. The Republicans are lying…defending this Kavanaugh lout…because they want to get someone from their team on the Supreme Court, and the Democrats are lying through their teeth saying that this is all about female’s’ rights. Where were they when Bill Clinton proved to be a serial abuser, using his position to get laid just like Weinstein and the rest of the creeps. It’s just politics, on both sides.
If it was possible to take a real, all-inclusive poll of what the American people think of the federal government, those who distrust it would now be in the majority. Those people have already “seceded”…mentally and emotionally. Keep making the same bipartisan mistakes and many states will begin to demand their freedom.
The result?
Either a civil war, a military dictatorship or a complete collapse of this society.
And the Democrats are equally to blame for this.
WTFU.
The Federal Government has now officially turned into a clown show.
A three ring clown circus.
Executive, congressional and judicial.
Great work, neocentrists.
Thanks a bunch.
Most of our ancestors came here looking for freedom from rule by lie.
Now?
Many people are looking elsewhere, only there is no “elsewhere” anymore. The few countries that as little as a decade ago seemed well set up and peaceful are now turning rightward, and why? Because the U.S. and its allies decimated the Islamic world pursuing their “globalist” PermaWar economy…globalist only in terms of the ascendency and rule of the .01% over the entire world. Refugees from that awful set of events have fled by the millions, and the sheer weight of those refugee societies is now breaking those countries.
Nowhere to run?
That’s when real fights break out.
Watch.
AG
It’s all a game to you, then.
Like I said: you’re a right wing asshole who believes fully in the Ron Paul agenda, all of it. In whole, the worldview you advocate for here at this progressive community is in effective 1000% support of McConnell and Trump.
Every else’s fault, right AG? You don’t bear ANY responsibility for the current state of affairs. It’s just all the “neocentrists” deep state, corporate media and their enablers.
You’re above it all, St. ASG, SUPERGENIUS, if the rest of us would just WTFU and be more like you, all the problems would be solved.
Patiently awaiting the book length ad-hominem to follow.
No, MDL. The “fault” lies wth all of us who either passively acceded to the PermaWar corporate takeover of both parties and the Federal Government or simply did not notice that it was happening, blinded by the media’s lies.
Dwight Eisenhower quite plainly warned us all of what was about to happen in his farewell speech. Most of us have either forgotten what he said or never really understood it.
That speech was closer to prophecy than it was to the usual boilerplate speech-making.
And it has come to pass.
We have…so far…failed miserably to heed his warnings.
I am truly sorry, but other than my own actions throughout my adult life, I have no practical answers to these problems, only observations and questions.
As Shakespeare wrote:
Yup.
AG
This a good a true take. Sometimes all we have is observations and questions.
True that.
AG
. . . ag did mostly manage to stay away from ad hominem, opting instead for the brief pretense that he’s just been offering helpful, collective self-critique here all along, by temporarily shifting to “us” and “we”; while still not acknowledging any actual, personal accountability for “our” collective sins:
Pretty neat trick, eh? “The fault is . . . in ourselves“, but none of it explicitly in the part of “ourselves” that is myself. That’s all on y’all! It’s you that need to WTFU! I’m already fully enlightened (just ask Rumi!) and already leading the perfect, woke life.
You’re reaching for shit here.
I think ag’s response nicely confirmed your original observation: switching temporarily to “us”, “we”, “ourselves”, but not ascribing any of the fault explicitly, personally, individually to hizownself.
Being also forewarned by your accurate observation, he didn’t immediately revert to “WTFU!” with its clearly implied “you, not me, I’m already fully woke!”. But he will, and soon. Has anything ever been more confidently predictable? I mean I’d love to be proven wrong about that, but . . .
. . . credible accusations of alcoholic-binge-fueled sexual assault/rape — including drugging/spiking drinks of targeted victims — plus recent demonstrable perjury comprise a hopeless attempt to block Bart’s Occupancy of a SCOTUS seat . . .
. . . (which Dems lack the majority to accomplish on their own, so can only accomplish by persuading at least two Banana Republicans to join them in opposition) . . .
. . . but if only Dem Senators had shown the good sense to buy into your Counterpunchdrunk’s War Criminal Theory and put all their eggs into THAT basket instead . . .
. . . THEN, (obviously!) O’Kav would be toast!
It just doesn’t come any more cluelessly preposterous than that.
Of course, idiotic, clueless, and preposterous are the most generous interpretation available, under a presumption that you’re presenting this stupidity in good faith. There are copious sound reasons to presume exactly the opposite, unfortunately.
HERE’S A GIANT REASON Rep and Trump want Kavanaugh on the bench in October. This is what’s on the docket. And it would allow Trump to pardon and then deny states to re try because of double jeopardy https:/www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/09/trump-pardon-orrin-hatch-supreme-court/571285
Long, long day – I was glued to twitter at work (unfortunately a slow day there) and felt stressed for most of it.
Tonight I unfriended someone who posted something misogynist on FB, only to get a message that her husband posted it to her account (without her consent…). She hasn’t accepted my apology and new friend request.
It’s a real emotional letdown to go from the power of this morning’s testimony to the realization that Kav probably will still be confirmed.
Questions:
Regarding fundraising, hold back your pocketbook for the moment. Might be able to better assess where to best donate when the numbers come in the beginning of October — will know who’s struggling/needs help and who is doing well.
AND… just this evening, two completely unconnected friends have posted on FB detailed accounts of being raped. Is anyone else seeing this?
I’m wondering if Swetnick doesn’t end up filing a criminal complaint. From what I understand, there’s no statute of limitations in MD for rape, and she has witnesses prepared to testify.
I can understand not wanting it public knowledge, but she’s on the record now, and she may be weighing whether or not it still makes sense to let it go.
The accused attempted rapist and Supreme court nominee finally took the mask off and revealed exactly who he is- a partisan Republican hack who wants a seat on the Supreme court to smite all his enemies on the left- i.e. pretty much the guy who most of us said he was.
Apparently, in the age of Trump, there is no longer any qualms about judicial nominees revealing their true inner Sith. Still, it’s jarring and I think it unfortunately was surprising to the Democratic Senators- who are obviously focused on trying to achieve a (admittedly very important) tactical victory and seemed a bit off balance dealing with the fact that Republicans just blew up any semblance of even pretending to want a non-partisan judicial branch. They all had to say how disappointed they were that their good friend Lindsey said unkind things. Didn’t they get the Federalist society memo- It’s partisan hacks from here until the republic falls come hell or high water and anyone that obstructs the natural order of corrupt right wing judicial extremism is traitorous scum…
Sadly, this assault on our norms and breakdown of the Senate’s advise & consent role is just par for the course now. Any rational American could plainly see that Brett Kavanaugh doesn’t have the temperament and judgement to sit on a traffic court, let alone get a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court, but they are rallying behind their guy. And the primary reason is because they know exactly what he is and always will be- a partisan hack, and that’s just become the new standard for justice today in America- give or take a few votes by Flake, Collins & Murkowski.
Yes, precisely. This is what screamed out to me during Bart’s existential rant. His absolute long-standing hate of the demonic American left, lib’rulism and the Dem party specifically. Sitting there ranting about “This SIDE!!” of the Committee and how “they” have destroyed his life and somehow plotted his downfall, with a chorus of Repub yes-men to take over the melody when the diva’s voice got tired.
It was perfectly obvious from this display that Boofer Bart is thoroughly and irreversibly biased against anything that smacks of progressive politics and the party that represents it. How he could supposedly have “sympathy” for Ford and be a-prayin’ for her, yet denounce a hearing focused on her as a “smear” was not, um, explained.
The Dems have no stars on that committee, despite practically all of them being ex-prosecutors. They didn’t make the slightest attempt to use his intemperate, enraged outbursts against him as proof of his bias and intemperance. They sat there practically stunned. They seem not to be able to think on their feet. All apparently unaware of the tender yearbook couplet “when it’s late/and you need a date/call Renate”, penned by one of Bart’s buds. Yeah, Bart, all those Renate “alums” had a super high regard for her! That’s the ticket!” Jesus. Booker performed best IMO.
To be fair the entire hearing was absolutely structured to ensure that there was no effective way to cross-examine O’Kavanaugh or arrive at a glimpse of the truth and demonstrate his preposterous lies. What the fuck dos anyone think a lawyer can do with 5 fucking minutes? Nothing, that’s what. Especially when the witness is allowed to evade and filibuster every meaningful question, as Bart did through the entire charade. And especially when half the time is given to a political party operating in complete bad faith, whose disgusting white male members didn’t ask a single fucking question directed towards arriving at the truth of the matter. So I cut the Dems some slack, but the questions they did ask were pretty easy to evade.
I’m sure we’ll now have to sit through risible attempts to praise how “serious” and “gripping” the hearing was and how Bart wonderfully addressed the totally unfair charges made against him by the vast lib’rul conspiracy. It’s all just more proof of the complete rot and collapse of an overextended and decaying empire constructed for plutocrat enrichment. Fie!
Too depressing to watch Anita Hill 2.0 Redux.
I read some commentaries and listened to a call in radio program.
My analysis:
A sham dog n pony show meant to shove the middle finger up Up UP at at libruls and wimmin and go pound sand, we LOVE Kavanaugh, nyah nyah nyah.
We have never lived in a democracy, but now we do live in a Fascist state.
That’s reality.
Anyone who actually believes that there will be some sort of “back lash” from this is delusional, and I can guarantee that Republican women will stand by their man this time and forever.
I just read some quote (can’t verify) that said something to the effect that something like 57% of Talabangelicals would STILL support Kavanaugh even IF it was uncontrovertably proven that he sexually abused and/or raped several women.
So there you have it. They voted in droves for Roy Moore despite his pedophilia, and they LOVE Kavanaugh despite him raping women.
Oh we are exceptional, alright.
Under stress, Kavanaugh showed his true personality. A bully, angry, entitled, incoherent and out of control man. Certainly not the right temperament for the SCOTUS.
And he made it quite believable that he’d assault women, especially when under the influence of alcohol. He was his own character witness yesterday, and what we saw was quite ugly.
Bart’s irritation and anger at the Dem senate ladies who dared to question him was readily apparent. He kept a lid on it for Harris, likely at McGahn’s request.
