Attorney General Jeff Sessions just resigned at the president’s request and, no, the chairman of the Judiciary Committee is not making any kind of fuss about it:
Thx to AG Jeff Sessions for his service to our country both leading the DOJ & in the US Senate serving the ppl of Alabama I‘ve enjoyed working with him for decades. He is a true public servant + I appreciate his friendship

Any hope the Senate Democrats had of blocking or setting conditions for his replacement vanished on Election Night when the Republicans wiped out Heidi Heitkamp, Joe Donnelly, Claire McCaskill and (probably) Bill Nelson. As an interim replacement, Trump has appointed Sessions’s chief of staff Matthew G. Whitaker.
We are pleased to announce that Matthew G. Whitaker, Chief of Staff to Attorney General Jeff Sessions at the Department of Justice, will become our new Acting Attorney General of the United States. He will serve our Country well….

No doubt, Trump will expect Whitaker to do what his boss wouldn’t, which is to protect him from Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation. He can do this in a variety of ways, although it will probably cause mass resignations at the Department of Justice and possibly at the FBI, too.
Chuck Grassley doesn’t care. He’s like the honey badger.
Mueller promised to hold off on making any major announcements between Labor Day when he flipped Manafort and Election Day. I don’t know when Election Day really ends though, since there will be a Senate runoff election in Mississippi and possibly a runoff election in the Georgia governor’s race.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is out. President Donald Trump has just named Matthew Whitaker as the acting attorney general to replace him — giving a man who once suggested special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation was a “witch hunt” control of the fate of the probe.
Well, I sure hope that Mueller has a plan for getting his findings into the public and not simply buried (metaphorically) and then physically burned out of existence.
How far will we get before any of the remaining GOP senators even blink an eye? I think it was more important for Mueller to carry forward and let the cards fall where they may seeing how actively Trump et. al. are trying to actively cover this up they should have to live with any electoral consequences.
I realize that is not how it works, or how Mueller thinks, but goddamn these are scary times with people following rules that clearly no longer apply.
We will now be treated to another instance of watching just how completely broken the federal government has become. As well as the corporate media.
Justice Boofer was quite a spectacle, but this promises to be even more appalling….and instructive.
CNN is reporting that Rosenstein is on his way to the White House.
Sounds like it’s the Wednesday Afternoon Massacre.
Mueller had to have anticipated this. Is it possible that Junior is already under sealed indictment?
I do not believe that the AG can stop Mueller from unsealing a sealed indictment and we have no idea how many sealed indictments have been issued.
F$&@ Mueller for going silent before the election. His holding back indictments affected the vote as much as if he had issued them. Of course, the James Comey rules only apply to Dems. Just a mirror image of his protege…. Oh, and F$&@ “Bipartisanship” Obama for nominating Comey in the first place and blessing us with Trump.
Nice to hear you say that. Some people really do deserve a comeuppance. No need to hold anything back now.
I heard on the radio that trump fired him. So was he fired or did he quit?
That seems clear enough to me.
He was fired. He “quit” so Trump could appoint his replacement without Senate confirmation.
Why are we stuck with absolutely useless “leaders” like Chuck and Nancy? I can’t even think of any Dem who is up to the task of opposing this gangster other than Avenatti.
Let’s not get out over our skis. If we can make use of Avenatti ok.
This is some sort of “surprise???!!!”
I will say this again:
Eliminate the veteran swamp dwellers at the top of the national Democratic Party/DNC… including the Clintons, the Obamas. the Schumers, the Pelosis and their subordinates…or remain simply another cog in the UniParty wheel.
You consider yourselves “progressives???!!!”
WTFU!!!
AG
Personally I am not in any great mood to start eliminating other members of the dem party en masse. There is far too much to be done and self immolation will not help.
You are 100% correct. This is war now. Thie spineless caucus should f’n retire. They are not only useless, but are actively working against us.
Protests developing…tomorrow at 5 pm.
We need to get out in the streets for this.
They’re not going to fire Mueller…they’re just going to strangle him. So this is the time to get out there.
Only good thing about Beauregard leaving….we might get movement on marijuana.
Election Day was yesterday. That’s it. It’s done.
After reading up on it Matt Whittaker really seems like we’ve got a real life Biff Tannen as our interim AG.
