Greetings photography enthusiasts. It’s Friday, and time for a new sometimes monthly/sometimes occasional foto flog. This photo was one I took in Budapest in 2014, at a time when there was still some hope of uprooting the Orbán regime and Fidesz party – at least in the circles there that might matter to me. I’m sure that bit of graffiti has been long since removed, but it lives on here. Consider it a reminder of hope and a reminder to avoid divided opposition.
Please note that this is a reboot of a series that went to seed a few years ago. I know that there are some photo hobbyists like me who post here already. As always, I am hoping to incite a bit more “community behavior” in our community blog. AndiF and BobX used to curate the old foto flog. Others contributed quite regularly. Folks like Hurria, JimF, KNUCKLEHEAD, dada, olivia, ask, tampopo, Man Eegee, and a whole host of others posted photos at one time or another. I am sure I have missed someone in that list.
I don’t use anything especially fancy. My Samsung Galaxy S6 finally died after a very long life. I had it for a fairly long time. Currently, I am using an LG ThinQ40. It has some nifty features that I am still playing around with. One of my offspring has commandeered my old 35mm film camera, so I don’t get to use that one very often. At over 30 years, finding replacement parts when something goes bad on it gets to be a bit tricky. That’s another story for another day.
Some of our regulars have actual professional equipment, and before Photobucket turned into such a drag, we were graced by some absolutely stunning landscape shots, close-ups of flowers and insects, and some abstract photography. I’ve often marveled at the creativity of the folks who have meandered in and out of this community over the years. I use flickr to host my photos for the time being, although given some changes at flickr, that may soon end. I have tried out imgur as well. So far, so good.
Consider this series as a homage to its predecessor, and dedicated to the spirit of its ancestors. Enjoy.
I was wandering around the Jewish Quarter in Budapest, not far away from the synagogue and within a couple blocks of the Holocaust Memorial Center (note that the government is in the process of constructing another memorial site that apparently is going to take a revisionist turn – a prospect I find abhorrent). I saw some of the graffiti, noticed that someone had tagged “resist!” in English, and knew I had to capture that moment.
Turned out to be a nice break after a long work day. Even seminars and symposia that are worthwhile get tiring after a while. A vigorous walk and an opportunity to soak in some of the history of a significant city was just what the doctor ordered.
Nicely done. Glad to see that.
When I was in Vienna a couple years ago, I saw some very supportive actions directed toward US visitors resisting the newly-elected Individual-1.
I don’t get across the Atlantic nearly as often as I wish, but when I do, I am always curious at what I’ll see.
This is one I took last year. One of my kids planted a variety of bulb plant seeds and once they began to grow and bloom they ended up looking quite lovely. We’re right at the point where they are about to bloom again. They started regrowing a bit earlier this year than they should have. Thankfully, they are still growing just fine. I should have some new photos available soon.
