Went for a hike, spent some time in a peat bog this afternoon … took a few new pix. Did nothing about the roses, so they’re even messier today … 🙂
Btw, you rec’d some music (like always 🙂 a while back — Tony Furtado — so I checked it out and it’s excellent! It sounds really good on the theatre speakers down w/ the 9×7′ screen … 😉

Mer Bleue … There are kms of trails for hiking, moutain biking, boardwalks through marsh and peat bogs. Yesterday we did some hiking in the forest-y bit (found some really good mountain bike trails close to home too!), today we toured around the boardwalk. Ottawa is a pretty funky city in that there are a ton of green areas inside the city and an actual working farm (the Experimental Farm), bike paths everywhere. They even close down major streets and expressways during the summer on Sundays so people can cycle on the double lane streets.

We hiked an old cranberry bog in Massachusetts and it was fascinating and gorgeous.

The worlds largest skating rink … 7.8 kilometre (4.5 mile) Rideau Canal. We skate every winter.
Not sure on the water taxis … there is a lock between the river and canal and there’s a ton of boat traffic in the summer.

I unconsciously mimic the speech patterns of people that I’m talking to. It’s really quite annoying. And Mr. Nature is from Tennessee.
You know I do the samething. When I lived in New Hampshire, someone asked me if I was from Boston.

Where did you go to camp? Is this the same camp where you perfected your making out skills?
of the south was in sparta, tn and the camp population was mostly from deep south states — quite a shock to me since up to that time I had no idea there were Jews below the mason-dixon line.
We do have Jews here but they’re on the endangered list. Was this a Jewish-only camp?
It was a camp for Jewish kids but there were some non-Jews at it — it wasn’t a religious camp; it was that regular camps didn’t accept Jews (though there were camps that were for orthodox jews).
Really? Regular camps didn’t accept Jewish kids? If it makes you feel any better Catholics are endangered down here as well. We’re not the right kind of Christians. We believe in good works and all, not just deathbed conversions.
Well you guys are both members in good standing in the Church of Slackdom.
I expect that’s why there are plenty of CYO camps that have been around for a long time.

No! I’ve been watching the weather maps and expecting them but I guess they keep skirting us. Have they been very intense?
Today’s wasn’t too bad but last night’s had 60 mph winds to go with the thunder, lightning, and driving rain.
I think if I was still searching for a “religion” in my life Judaism would be pretty close to my beliefs. I’ve become so secular since moving down here. The God they try to shove down your throat is not a God I want to know.
The great thing about choice is you can pick what you like, or make your own.
I’m purely a cultural Jew; I have no religious impulse at all. But I do think that I’ve absorbed the moral underpinnings of Judaism.

When this very weedy bed under the spruce looks better than it does now, I’ll take some wider shots. But had to get this lupine while it’s in its full glory.
Did you ID dada’s plant? Looked it up in more detail since, and he can’t have that growing there … hardy only in Zones 9+ Must be a potted plant, I suppose.

It’s Bee Balm, aka Monarda didyma. It’s just getting going and soon our 2 huge patches will be a blaze of red you can see all the way down the street. Love the stuff.
I bet that would be a sight to see. Of course when you can see it down the street, we’ll want pictures. 🙂
then there’s the purple variety to come after the red … need to thin it out a bit since it’s engulfed my Lord Baltimore hibiscus out back.

I went and got some pork ribs, cucumbers for slicing and some pound cake and strawberries for dessert.
The garden that is being planted by Wayne and Danni… the one they plant while I’m “away”… I’m staying away from it. LOL I’ll plant a small herb garden and wine barrel some peppers. Otherwise, I kill stuff.
Oh and some lavender! along the walk… when I get a chance.
Purple/green, paired, heavily textured leaves 8″ +- long when matured, multi-stemmed, small, lt. blue bell-like flowers in very early spring…

I bought at a moving sale, and I’ve been trying to figure out how to make it grow. Doesn’t like direct sun, likes to be wet, and I move it indoors in the winter…which it really doesn’t care for.
Now I know what it is I can research it…many thanks.

I bet it’s the lack of humidity that gets it all pissy in the winter … that’s usually a cause of such reactions.
