Compare the handwriting of Ben Roethlisberger’s alleged rape victim from the day after the incident and the the night of the incident. It’s obvious that she was completely blotto drunk. It’s also obvious from both her allegations and the other witnesses that regardless of whether he actually raped her, he is a pig of epic proportions. If I were running the Pittsburgh Steelers I simply could not continue to employ him. He’s a truly gifted quarterback. But the Steelers are a classy family-owned organization and they shouldn’t allow a man like Roethlisberger to be the face of their organization. For that matter, neither should any other NFL team.
Above all, I hope Roethlisberger has learned something and changes his behavior and how he treats women. The man is a disgrace.
I’ve seen endless apologia for his case. Being my age, it’s hard when it seems like everyone is always against you when it comes to this issue. I mean, I’m not calling almost all college men rapists, but it’s obvious a lot of drunk sex goes down. I’ve had to actually argue with many of my friends that it’s not fucking cool to go to a party and take someone home while they’re wasted. I mean, it’s definitely gray if you’re drunk as well, but a lot of them I know were just tipsy while the woman was falling over, breaking her heels (metaphorically).
On my girlfriend at the time’s birthday last year, god was she wasted. I felt bad because she did some little strip thing for me, but I had to tell her we’d just have to go to sleep without doing anything. She thanked me for it in the morning, but other girls I’ve talked to said they’d have been pissed. I just don’t understand; do they not think it’s rape if you’re dating? This institutionalized sexism and misogyny has to end.
When you’ve got paid lackeys standing outside to block the door while you drunkenly assault a women in the bathroom, you really need to sit down and assess your whole life. Because that means not only are you a pig, you’re an accomplished scum bag, and everyone should regard you as such. This guy I’m sure has mind-boggling romantic possibilities, and he’s acting like the worst kind of loser frat-boy.
I don’t necessarily think they should cut him, but he needs to sit for at least 6 games, preferably 8, and come to jesus. In other words, if he so much as has a traffic violation in the near future he’s done. This talk about 2 games is pathetic.
There’s a limit to how much you punish a man who wasn’t even charged with a crime, but the owners can do whatever they want. And if I were them, I’d want someone else representing my football team. I mean, I like the Steelers, but I can’t root for them anymore if he’s their QB. And I am far from alone.
I’ve heard a few interesting things. First, the two guys blocking the door(and just generally being Big Ben’s “bodyguards”) were Pittsburgh area cops. Second, I heard on the local radio(Philly area .. so maybe Boo listens too) that Big Ben has been known to stiff bar bills .. and other stupid behavior …. basically .. the guy has been acting like such an ass in Pittsburgh .. that a guy with two Super Bowl rings has basically pissed away all that goodwill .. all that love
Ben Roethlisberger is quite clearly all that and more. A real slime.
The really interesting point for me, however, is how much outrage will be generated by this compared to the sturm und drang over Michael Vick’s dogfighting fiasco.
No matter what else happens we can judge the judges by whether a young woman’s life and well being are worth more or less to them than that of animals.
We all remember, dogfighting is NOT ok. What about rape? Let us learn.
he is a sexual predator.
as a Black woman, I don’t find it amusing as to how much the NFL and the MSM is covering for him.
As a human being! Too drunk for consent is sexual assault. Period. And this should be repeated as clearly as it was that dogfighting is inhumane and immoral. Period.
Anything else is rationalizing the behavior.
signed, a feminist man.
I think what rikyrah is saying is that if Ben were black these events would be completely different. Which…is pretty much true.
that’s exactly what I’m saying.
I agree that the press’s treatment of it would be radically different. Roethlisberger is “gritty” (which seems to be code for “white guy who doesn’t completely embarrass himself and appeals to old fat white guys in the sports press”).
But I’m not sure the league’s would be much different if Roethlisberger were black. It seems to me that a lot of criminality goes unpunished by the league across races.
And the only guy who gets hounded years after by the press is Ricky Williams.
Apparently getting stoned in your own home is worse than rape or torturing animals or killing people on a DUI or stabbing someone or steroids or whatever else. It’s kind of a joke.
is that why they call it a pig skin?
A lifetime ban and complete bankruptcy of his finances would be nice.
Being a good quarterback with a few Superbowl wins, does not make him less of a pig.
Damn, some father just got a major, long prison term for taking his son out back & shooting him in the head, for sexually molesting a young girl.
I’m not sure about the gender of some of the above posters, but it seems like no women have weighed in yet.
Maybe because his behavior, while despicable and yes piggish, isn’t that surprising for a jock? You put a athlete with his innate sense of superiority and privilege together with alcohol and it’s something most women are familiar with and have taught our daughters about.
Oh, sorry rikyrah, I missed your reference to gender. 🙂
the eagles announced they will have another quarterback signed soon. they already have a dog killer. i can see them adding an alleged serial rapist.
If that woman was my daughter I would take an axe to Roethlisberger’s right arm and chop it right the fuck off his torso, then I did do the same thing to his cock.
Ah, the eternal sorrow of the sports fan. Forever crushed anew when running fast with a ball somehow fails again to translate to “role model” and decent human being. Great rage and gnashing of teeth until the next Hero comes along. Don’t they have deprogramming groups for you guys?
Phil Simms and Eli Manning are perfectly acceptable role models. Lawrence Taylor? Not so much.
To be fair, I think there are many guys in the league with troubling pasts who make for excellent role models. A lot of the prime recruiting areas for elite college programs (in East Texas, South Florida, Southern California, etc) are also among the poorest. And a lot of them go on to the league after getting some leadership and structure and become perfectly fine citizens, despite the fact that troubling things from their childhoods kind of go with the territory.
